Hi Zul,

Is your salary basic only or inclusive of claims and other allowances?
Are you working shifts?
*
that is my current basic, exclusive of claims and allowance... I am not in shift, so I dont get any allowance, only claims, depending on the job requirements... usually I receive 4K per month....

yes, agreed with you..

I always read people posts by saying, "am I underpaid?"

IMHO, it is not for other people to judge whether you are underpaid, or overpaid.. it is up to the person to check whether the income can satisfy the needs of that person. 10K might not be good enough for me, but it might be more than enough for other people.. if you think you are underpaid, so plan your next step either find better offer, or improve your skills, or maybe you want to totally change your career to another that better suits you...

That's what drive my friends to advised me to just take the offer and bare for 1 year regardless of the pay. Fresh grad still a fresh grad ...  sweat.gif  sweat.gif  sweat.gif

for me, with master degree plus all those professional certs you have, you can have better than helpdesk... smile.gif

If I have Master degree in IT and various professional certifications - Microsoft > 12 certificates (MCTS x 6, MCITP x 4, MCDST), A+, Security+, Server+, ITIL v3, CWNP (CWTS,CWNA), but without job experience. Should I accept the offer for 1 year Help-desk position with Rm 2000 (basic)?: . I was advised by some of my friends to gain experience first before applying for a better technical position .. is it the right step?  hmm.gif  hmm.gif  hmm.gif

Thank you  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif
*
Irzani, I just checked Jobstreet and Monster.com.. and to be honest, there are many positions available with your current certificates.. you also may want to check the company's career website (eg: DELL, DHL, HP, CSC, T-Systems) and match those available positions with your profile.

For me, Helpdesk is not the best starting point for you (sorry PhakFuhZai, I dont mean to under-estimate Heldesk-er biggrin.gif)...

with all those certs, you may already know which area you prefer most (it can be server infrastructure, ITIL process, Security, networks, yada yada), so go for it... unless you testking-ed your certs, then I cant say anything lah... but eventhough you testking-ed all those, at least you still can know you most interested area...

and as usual, please answers these questions to yourself... Where is the work location you prefer most? do you prefer to work on shift, or normal working hour? can you work on shift? how much is your expected salary, so that you can at least decently survive?

If I want to get a higher pay (like, 5 figures), which one is better, focus on technical until can become Solution Architect, achieve 5 figures salary, then go to management side, or aim for the 5 figures salary within the management position itself...

you guys got what I mean aa? ~__~

I didn't know the detail since we have short interview call . Just my chances to be accepted is higher according to the recruiters. My main problems would be if I excel in the interview assessment and been given the job offer within 24 hours, I'm going to shit brick panicked once I know the penalty of breaking the contract.  sweat.gif  sweat.gif  sweat.gif . Rejecting the offer will mean blacklisted ...
1) Most of the technical jobs I've read need me to have 1 year experience.  cry.gif . And the worst, technical engineer need to know application level too (database, sharepoint)  where I've dumped all the knowledge since acquired the hardware prof cert ... rclxub.gif So, technical helpdesk should be my easiest first step in IT industry ... or should I take  CCNA to enter networking sides?  hmm.gif

2) By the way, I heard help desk level 2 and 3 tasks involve remote computing. Perhaps if I can prove my skills within the first 3 month, I'll be remain in the L1 grade and salary but my tasks is L2 or L3. Got any chances?
*
1) yes, they put that requirement.. but that doesnt mean you cant apply... seriously, I did apply for a job requires more years of working experiences than I had, but still I succeed. believe me, try first... Helpdesk is not the best for you... again, dear all helpdesk-ers “A thousand pardons for my words there..."

2) L2, L3 helpdesk might do some remoting, but are you for sure you can be promoted within 3 months?

O cant agree more with PFZ, you may want to apply with Redynamics, Iverson.... ouh, by the way, Redynamics got opening at jobstreet... rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

4K for helpdesk, thats a lot though.. for me, you are overpaid, because your title is helpdesk... if you are System Administrator/System Engineer, I think you are okay/slightly underpaid....

cant agree with you... although with 10 years of experience, hard to get more IF he is still a Helpdesk... that is the limitation of a Helpdesk, unless he jump out to more technical tasks... just my 2 cents... biggrin.gif

How much % increment is suitable to ask for after 1 year of working?
*
it depends on how good you are... if you are "datang office goyang kaki", then do you think you deserve an increment? but if you are "Most Valuable Staff", the boss will surely grant you with big percentage of increments..

so, which one are you?

Erm, I solve the most cases each quarter. thumbup.gif
How much % do you think is appropriate to ask for?
*
are you :-
a) not meet the expectation : you need to solve at least 100 cases each quarter, and you did not meet that
b) meet the expectation : you need to solve at least 100 cases each quarter, and you meet that
c) exceed the expectation : you need to solve at least 100 cases each quarter, not only you meet that, but you come up with a plan to eliminate the cases entirely, thus saving costs. You come up with a plan to automate the process, thus lowering the work effort.

if a, then vmad.gif vmad.gif vmad.gif
if b, you are not yet a star, so cant really demand blush.gif
if c, yes you are a star, demand as you wish!!! thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif
