Job Title: Assistant Manager (front office)
Age: less than 25
Working experince: 1 year of official experience (+ misc other experience)
Official experience before joining : None
Company : International Bank (not investment banking)
Location: KL
Salary : MYR 5,000
Bonus : 2 - 4 months
Working hours: Standard working hours
Benefits: Full medical benefit, 17% EFP company contribution, Travel Allowance (RM300/year), Car Road Tax (RM300/year), Mobile Phone subsidy (RM800/year), Optical Subsidy (RM300/year), Broadband (full subsidy)
I'm aware the salary I'm receiving is quite high for an average employee who has only been working for a year. However do note that banking in general pays higher than most industry at the beginning but the increment rate is lower than other industry. Also another perspective, I believe my organisation pays higher salary but the bonus payout is a lot more smaller than other banks (even local banks for that matter).

Some people failed to realize, that years of experience is very subjective. It really depends on what have you achieved during those years. so some people with 15 years of so-so experience will not get the same salary with some who get fantastic 10 years exp. same goes with fresh grad. those high fliers usually will get better high paying job compared with those who just barely made it. Just want to point it out that just indicating your years of experience isn't enough to say you are underpaid or not.

i guess the only way to truly know whether you are underpaid or not, is to try and find a new job and see if the new company will pay you more than what you get or not. if you failed to even get new job, consider yourself overpaid.

My dept in other teams hired a person with about 1.5 years working experience where the experience are non-related to the job. While the company is paying RM3k+ for the person. In terms or academic qualification, i would consider myself and the person as quite good (although both of us studied different degree). For working experience, it is not directly comparable either. I would say that i have an advantage of working experience because i have already got some important knowledge and skills in my job while the person is just starting to learn in different team.

As for comparison, i did not include those people that i do not know (i.e. RM4.5k + 700 allowance). If i include those, i would be bias to say my salary is lower. I am just trying to compare with a lot of my coursemates who got RM3k+. It maybe due to the reason that a lot of my coursemates changes job while i still remaining with the same job.

I would say that my bonus is quite nice but bonus is just unsecured income.

just as i say in my previous post, try and go for job interviews, and see if you are able to get better salary. as a guideline, my friend who just joined my company said he get about 20-30% increment from his last job. while my brother who also moved to a new company got the same exact salary as before, but since its closer to home and a permanent job as compared to the previous contract based job, he took it anyway.

specifically about you and your colleague who get 3k while you got 2.9k, it really depends on the benefits. my company recently did a salary adjustment where all the new comers, even fresh grads get a rm500 more than me, also with 1.5 years exp, but they didnt have house/car loans, and also capped medical benefit. sometimes its just the timing that matters. at some point, when there's lack of qualified people applying for the job, they might pay you more.

And i also agree about experience not related to the job. it doesn't matter, some things you can learn but what they look for is your ability to learn and solve problems which can be portrayed even when you work on a non related work. plus 1.5 exp isnt that much, and most companies usually treats those with less than 3 years exp same as no exp. also, the expected salary in your resume does play a part in determining your salary.

lol. Seems like you are too rush in giving comments without looking at details of my words. 3k+ does not means 3k. If it is exactly 3k, i would indicate clearly as 3000.  3k+ means about 30% higher than 2500, about 15% higher than 2900.

Come on lah.. House/car loans are useless unless you are going to stay at there for 15 years. Capped medical benefit is also useless where the higher RM500 can let you have higher benefit if you were to use some portion of the money for medical insurance. Analyze properly before doing the conclusion.

After my salary increment, i felt that the salary still considered as satisfying due to the high bonus but others in the same company with lesser experience are getting higher bonus due to higher base salary.zzz.

Anyway, i feel that still can stay in the company for this year. See how it goes next year. If i wants to leave the company, i can secure a job under my ex-colleague that left company or i can just look for job by myself. The ex-colleague is hiring people which can provide me at least 25% higher than my current pay.

well boohoo then, you are severely underpaid..... is that what you want to hear? i don't know why you suddenly felt offfended on my comment... its purely my opinion and if you just want to hear what you want... then fine, i think you are underpaid and you deserve more like 10k more...

just fyi, my company house loan is at 3.5%, 100% loan. ask anyone around if you can get that outside.... and see how much you can save with that low interest.... its way more than RM500. not to mention my medical isnt capped at all. i know it doesnt feel like worth that much for youngster, but it wont take long when your medical bills going up just by having a child or 2

Government staff, public bank, BNM,... can have much better housing loan. Congratulation on your company who successfully hired a truly loyal staff who will not leave the company until retire age.

Let say when you leave your company 5 years later, will your company still continue to let you having the 3.5% housing loan? The staff benefit is just something unsecured variables. If you understand that things can change, you should just treat those benefits as added value. Do you believe that your company can change your staff benefit?

There are a lots of people who does not use their company housing loan just because they do not want any inconvenient caused when they leave their company.

There are some banks who is providing staff loan + medical which do not cap. I can name some companies for you at here for your reference (just in case that you want to consider it in the future). Government staff, CIMB Bank and Bank Islam do not have any medical cap. Hope that these information helps in your future. smile.gif

lol government staff get 4% loan.... most of my family is in the government. and medical? of course if you prefer govt. hospitals, which their own doctors do not go to when they are sick...? (my brother and cousins are both living evidence for this statement.

and yes i can always refinance if you ever wanted to leave my company, maybe you've never heard of that?.

totally agree with kelvin_tan. i really dont understand why are you going on the offensive. people have different reasons to stay or not to stay in your company, not just money, its more of the satisfaction that you get from your job. it is easy to see whether you are worth it or not for your company, just ask this to yourself, are you irreplacable? can the company replace you (with the same salary) anytime? if you are not irreplaceable, quit whinning and be grateful you are still there. but if you think they can't get any better personnel other than you, then with all due respect please ask for a raise, or find somewhere else to work...
