4. interested in testing side because my lecture said it was easier and can make good money but need to take another 2 certificate for testing site(btw, i forgot what the name cert he mention =.=, if u know it, tell me pls~)
5. How to get a job from sg if i have no one there...? (im frm kl)

so.... guys, what should i do? go for the testing side and take another 2 cert or just go in the network side....? thx....

Hey bro... What is the reason you take software engineering in the first place if you are not interested in it? Do not hear what your friend say? So you think that QA testing will fetch better salary. shocking.gif rclxub.gif

You cannot expect much as a fresh graduate. Decide your own future instead of basing on other parties statements. There is no easy money in this world.

3 years liao, most of it self study during night and weekend ... next month got 2 exams which are Certified Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI) and CCNA .. hope can pass it  sweat.gif  sweat.gif  sweat.gif

Out of curiosity, are you taking all those certification out of interest or purely to enhance your portfolio? If you took those certification for your career portfolio, I would think you should need to have the working experience. In fact, those certificates are the one complementing your working experience instead the opposite..

IMHO, those certifications are just papers if you take it without any working experience to tag along. Why don't you go for lecturing? I think you are over-qualified to go for an entry level IT position. tongue.gif

huuh? 30k? serious?  rclxub.gif

What's your current salary? Even though the position can go up to 30K per month, does not mean you get 30K. It will base on your current salary level and experience. I would say at least a 30% increment on your current salary will be reasonable. hmm.gif

i am damn underpayed by my previous boss, only RM3k per month sad.gif
i not sure  this  position can get 30k per month , coz MCITP pay is USD $6k oversea or RM7k here. even convert direct frm USD also max get RM18k....

bro, if i ask only 30% incr on my current pay, it will be still way underpayed. i believe though i am quit new in the field, i deserve at least RM5500 to RM6500.
*
It seems like you already have a figure in mind. Just go with that figure. It is good to have confident in your ability and market value, however you would also need to prepare for the possibility that the company may reject your application as your request is more than 100% increment compared to your current job. Money is never enough. When you are earning at 6500, you will think you are still underpaid, you should be paid more than 10K. That's happens to me as well. tongue.gif

I am not telling other profession earn less. I am telling actuary can earn MYR 5 digits. USD50k is considered high. (For me)
I know all the stuffs about the papers. Yes indeed when you are the best in any profession, you earn a lot.
But I think even without the paper you can earn much. (For me 5 digit considered much)

Other things are important nevertheless salary, its not wrong to count it in. Everyone hopes for high salary and based on data from internet, even fresh graduates earns much. I am here for opinion with good reasons. If you think 5 digit only happens in dreams. Tell me why?

I am here just for a confirmation if an fresh graduate in AS can earn minimum MYR10000 monthly. Why can't at be this way as a diploma holder technicians earn MYR7200.

(B)So is earning RM2,800 more really a big deal for a degree holder in Actuarial Science?(/B)

So do you mean its easy for AS degree holder to earn MYR10000? If yes I am happy.

I don't deny its very hard. But it still gives a good pay, doesn't it? So why don't people with ability to cope up go for it?

I do not understand why are you taking currency difference into consideration. sweat.gif Earning 5 figure for a fresh grad is very high, no doubt unless you are living and working in Malaysia. It is almost impossible for a company to give you five figure salary as a fresh grad in Malaysia. You have no experience at all.

It is everybody goal to earn 5 or 6 figure salary. It does not mean you can't dream. But you must be realistic. As a fresh graduate, your priority is to polish up your skill and gain experience. Money will come automatically when you have equipped yourself substantially.

I totally agree with you. About the currency difference, it started when someone start an argument with me. Leave it. I am here just to know any possibilities to get highly paid early. I agree working in Malaysia most probably won't get me paid 5 digits. But somehow by working at oversea I am hoping for minimum MYR10000 (here comes the currency difference) if possible. Although it seems to be hard, it isn't impossible i think. Just hoping for the best. No offense.
*
If you say working overseas and hoping for minimum of MYR10000, that is easy to achieve in countries with larger currency like UK, US, AUD. Bear in mind, working in these countries also attracts higher tax. Forum is for discussion. Bottomline, as a starter, do not put money as the first priority. You will find yourself, disappointed easily.

no offense to others, i agree with the statement above

In malaysia, without cert, we still can alive,
exp. my HK fren told me, if you dont hav a cert, how pro you are, u are not entitled to go in big company
* not to go in big company, u will never gains very high salary as u expected.
Inb4, u still can start up ur ownbusiness, start ur career, earn the big money thumbup.gif
Your examples are opposing your stand. sweat.gif

You mentioned without cert in Malaysia, you still can survive. I interpret it as average salary to stay afloat in the current society. As for the HK example, it is indirectly stating that same as well. Without cert, you can't go to big company and as a result, you can't command a high salary. However, you are still able to survive by living within your means in HK.

opps, i means survive is high salary based on previous conversation, did i miss somethings?

Wow!! your definition of survive = having high salary. I wonder what are the majority of the people like me, earning average salary are doing? hibernating? laugh.gif just kidding.

i think you are generalizing everything based on what your friend has said. If you say Malaysians without certs, can earn high salary by climbing the corporate ladder. Why not in HK?

However, everywhere in this world, certificate will give you a jump start, doesn't it?
*
Having more certificates will definitely give you advantage over other candidates. However, IMHO, certificates complements your working experience and not the other way round unless you are in the education industry.

Hey guys,

I'm about to graduate soon and I'm trying to decide whether to stay here and work or return to malaysia. I know this sounds materialistic but naturally the salary that I'm going to get matters. smile.gif I intend to return to Malaysia someday no matter what and I'm wondering if having worked overseas would make employers attempt to match your previous salary (after exchange conversion) if they are interested in you?
*
Where are you studying now? Based on your description, it should be countries with stronger currencies eg Oz, UK? IMHO, I think is a good idea for you to work overseas a few years to gain some experience, provided that you can get a job there which is quite a daunting task for foreign graduates. If you are happy with the life there, you can always opt to settle down there permanently.

However, if you decide to return to Msia after a few years, whether Msia employers will offer you a package which equals your overseas salary after conversion, I think it will be a 'good to have' thing. It is possible but difficult unless your skillset/experience is so valuable that no one in Msia has it.
