One thing i will tell u is that your results have little bearing in your working life. You can have a 1st class honors degree but that will not guarantee you a good working career. Its all about how well u impress in the interview and how you manage your professional working life.

The degree you get is only to grant you permission to work.

Industry : Building Services
Tenure: Permanent
Experience before joining: 2 years exp in consulting line
Employment level: Engineer

I'm thinking of changing to another field coz construction line pays peanuts. Don't ya think so?
Construction line pays well. It all depends on how high u wanna reach and your drive. But ure not in construction. U are in consultancy. Big difference. You get paid less since u enjoy the aircon and 5 day work week. Construction is tougher and you must be preared to sweat. BUt after a few years, ull reap the benefits when you climb the corporate ladder.

Earning 3K per month in your 3rd year is considered ok for your line of work. I know friends of mine who are only earning RM7K after 11 yrs of working. So dont complain. Focus on improvig yourself and getting the neccessary working experiences and in time u will reap the rewards. If u want an easy life early on in your career while expecting high pay, then ure in for a hard time later.

I started off with a RM1500 salary working 6 days a week. But i worked hard and didnt complain much. In 5 yrs i was already earning RM 25-28K (tax free) as an expat in Indonesia.

Why do a currency conversion? You are working in NZ, earning in NZ and spending in NZ so everything should be compared using NZ dollar not converting it to RM. You only convert to RM if ure a tourist or when u bring back your NZD to Malaysia. But for comparison of salaries the currency doesnt matter. Always compare apple to apple.

Your over RM 300K per annum salary is equivalent to over NZD$ 122K which adds up to about NZD$10K per month. This is the same as earning RM10K per month in Malaysia which is normal for a person with 9 yrs experience. Plus u dont get yearly bonuses which is a minus. Your benefits are about the same as any Malaysian company here. MAny MNC companies in Malaysia actually offer better benefits.

At your age, whats important is experience not salary. If u want an easy job so early in life and expect to be paid well too, then im afraid 10 yrs down the line, u might find your self behind others. I started with only a RM1,500 salary working on a project site and i moved around in the first 5 yrs getting alot of experience. Didnt bother much bout salary then as i knew experience was what counted. After 5 yrs i went overseas for 2yrs and started earning a 5 figure salary (tax free). Ive never dropped below a 5 figure salary since then and now after 11 yrs experience, im doing quite well and earning a decent income.

So my advice is you need to have a career plan. Dont just jump from 1 company to another without a definite purpose. At your age, your only purpose should be to get experience. Always ask yourself where you wanna be in 10 years time because what happens in 10 yrs time is decided by the decisions you make now. The salary will come with experience so dont worry bout that so much now. Many of my friends choose the easy life when they graduated and now, all of them in Malaysia are earning less than me.

Choose established companies always and improve your communication & writing skills. This will take you a long way in addition to technical expertise.

boss, u earning foreign currency 5 figures or after convert 5 figures?

what would u consider to be doing quite well and earning decent income? i hv a fren who earns 300k per annum but always say not doing well....  rclxub.gif
After conversion. But that was a few years ago. Now im based locally.

Your friend obviously doesnt know how to manage his finances. There are many ppl out there who earn high salaries but at the end of the month are still broke. Its not about how much u earn. Its about how much you spend and save. Your expenses should not rise according to your salary. Alot of ppl make the mistake of spending more when their salary increases. So no matter how much they earn, they are gonna be broke at the end of the month. But if your expenses increase because you have invested in property then its ok. But not for lifestyle upgrades.

I too used to earn RM300K per annum at one stage but i still drove a 5 yr old car and wore RM80 jeans and ate at mamak shops. laugh.gif

15-25% Based on what experiences you gained in the company and what have you achieved during last employment.
Consider ok with that salary you are earning now.
Definitely not OKAY with that figure. Are you serious with 4 years experiences and you are still in JR. Level? rclxub.gif Please change to other company doh.gif
Number of years of experience is only a rough indicator. Its the quality of the experience that counts.

During the interview season no matter how good you promoted yourself to the interviewers , they wouldn't find if you are who were from last company. This is why they take you for 6 months probation ( Worth to pay what you expected in the next employment). It is very much depends how much you can perform well and be smart for negotiating on the salary part.
Sorry but could you rephrase? I cant understand what u are trying to say.

Friend, ure working in a small chinaman company. This is how it is with these types of companies. Nothing new. The advantage of working with chinaman companies is that u are made to do a wide variety of work thus giving you experience. Take that experience and then aim for multi national companies. But dont leave your current company till you have reached a certain level of technical excellance. Uve only worked for 4 years so its alright. With the right experience ull climb up the salary scales quite fast. But you also need the right attitude and communication skills to progress.

All travelling costs eg petrol, toll all bear on ur own.advertising fees all on ur own.

Not really a good job for a newbie.

I don't think I am wrong. hmm.gif  Search with Google and see. Maybe you mean the salary for some fresh graduates in Actuarial Science who go for other jobs (Risk management and etc) as Malaysia is quite unpopular for actuarial science I think. Based on actuarial salary worldwide surveys on the internet, (for example:http://www.dwsimpson.com/2011_Actuarial_Salary_Survey.pdf) it is clear! If you wish to believe, I have a friend (Malaysian) who graduated in Actuarial Science is working at Singapore and he did earn MYR10000 as first salary. (TRUE STORY)  nod.gif
Bro, common sense would tell you that those salaries are ANNUAL not MONTHLY.

Actuaries are well compensated. Experienced fellows have the potential to earn from $150,000 to $250,000 annually, and many actuaries earn more than that.

http://www.beanactuary.org/why/?fa=salary

http://www.bls.gov/ooh/Math/Actuaries.htm

Yes your friend earned RM 10K per month or SGD 4,100. U cant simply convert to ringgit. U have to consider the base salary in the home currency if u wanna compare salaries. If u do a reverse calculation, a Malaysian engineer earning RM 5K per month here will earn about 4K pounds in UK as well. He won't be getting 1,000 pounds would he?

And using 1 person as a benchmark wont give you a realistic assessment.

Whether it is annually or monthly the salary is still high. (In MYR will reach 5 digits) Disagree?
I agree using one person wont give realistic assessment.
Everyone knows about the currency difference. That's why we earn more money by working at overseas. (This have nothing to do with the topic) His salary is still considered as MYR10000.
5 digits for what? Annual salary? There is no 5 digit monthly salary for fresh grads in Actuarial Science in Malaysia or any other country for that matter. Leave out the currency conversion if ure comparing base salaries between countries.

If u wanna do comparisons, i had fresh grad friends who went over to Singapore to work as electronics technicians and they brought home a salary of approx SGD 3K per month (RM 7,200). The minimum qualification to be a technician is only a diploma. So is earning RM2,800 more really a big deal for a degree holder in Actuarial Science?

Don't day dream boy. Just coming out from uni won't give u 5 digit income regardless ur job. Doctors earning around RM 4k. And you don't earn more money by working overseas. You can earn 5k SGD but can't eat RM 5 nasi goreng at SG. I'm working in Malaysia at the same salary SG offered me ( exm : RM 5k, and SGD 2.5k) I can say, i'm more richer by working in Malaysia then SG
Fresh doctors (medical officers) only get about RM2,200. Ive got doctor friends with about 10 years experience in Gov hospitals earning only about RM7K per month (including allowances).
