It's never going to happen. Too much nay sayers in MS office (regional) that doesn't want the Xbox to be sold here officially due to too much ground work required. Despite Sony has been able to clear all obstacle etc, MS still believes they won't be able to recoup the investment if it's launch here in Malaysia officially.

The local MS office guys wants it, it's the big boys over there who keeps on putting brakes on any attempt to bring it here.

Been there.

Well said. It is a sad reality we have to live with. The local MS folks want it and are optimistic, but back at HQ, Msia is not even on the map. sad.gif

Local MS must be aggressive a bit. If they don't push for XBL/360 launch in Malaysia WinPhone 7 will also be impacted, and definitely local WinPhone7 sales will be negatively impacted because of impression that they cannot play games since XBL not present.

generally malaysian buying power is rather low, with small xbl community. is kinda obvious MS wouldnt do it.

@trifecta
Sony didnt really invest PS3 in MY. console only. no PSN servers.

@matrix

i never know that theres a retail app store.

Sony didn't invest in the PSN server, that's right, but the investment is in the logistic for PS3 i.e, spare parts, repairs, etc.
Those require investment, and Sony tied up with a local company to do the support services.

If MS did launch Xbox here, the servers will still reside in Singapore due to its geographical location, bandwith stability i.e. the internet submarine cable etc. MS DataCenter is also in Singapore, the same one which handles Live accounts, Azure etc.

When the local MS did the count, there were...a huge amount of Xbox being brought/sold in Malaysia via grey imports i.e. Singapore. So, the Microsofot Singapore Xbox team makes a huge number of sales from grey imports into Malaysia. This could be translated into Malaysian sales, only if Microsoft Redmond and APAC allowed Xbox to be brought in officially.

Things aren't as so simple just to take the Xbox and sell it here, politics in the works, logistics in the works, legalities in the works.

If I may, there is local PSN servers, but its mostly connected to Hong Kong. Just like Singapore also. Contents all similar, but currency different.

I somehow think MS doesn't really want to bring in because they don't want it to happen like the PS2 days. That was a sad one for Sony I remember.

nope thats not what we call local server. A local server idea is to reduce latency, comunicating between players, satelite server to the main server by using their own network. Thats is a reason why local satelite server are expensive expecially if they serve a wide community. I m still connected to PSN-SG regardless i m in malaysia

Traditional: PC->TMNT-MY -> ASIANET -> ??? ->??? -> ??? -> PSNHUB-CA ~ 300++ms
PS3-> TMNT-> PSN-MY -> PSN-HK -> PSNHUB-CA ~ ur less 250ms
PS3-> TMNT ->PSN-SG ->PSNHUB-CA ~ less than 150ms

x360 -> TMNT ->XBL-SG ->XBL-WA ~ about 125ms

all data are based on speculation and experience. XBL nor PSN reveal any information about their networks and are generally classified.

if the network in the office of local MS is down, you'd see them at Starbucks doing emails, calls etc because the server is in Singapore, not Malaysia.

Same goes for Xbox and other services. Still, Singapore is choosen for everything internet MS provides.

thats they reason why, pc gaming require a local server, cos international servers is going to put the strain on tmnet with high latency.

even with the recent earthquakes in japan, i cant connect to japan and i m having really bad latency to US using the PC. with xbl i could even play with players in the US with minimal impact

in the same way it can also be said that MS Singapore wouldn't want Xbox to be sold officially here coz it will affect their sales.

Like this mean they're stingy. If they want to do that they should let Malaysians officially tumpang their servers. Not force us to tipu them that we're Singaporeans.
