I sold my sigma 24-70 to fund for 16-35, total top was around 1k
*
Hey bliz u were using sigma 24-70 hsm then top up to 16-35 ? How do u find it ? Is it better to use 16-35 or the 24-70 as a walkabout lens ?

You dump a Sigma 24-70. Not a Nikkor 24-70. I bet you would not dump a Nikkor 24-70 if you had one.  smile.gif

still deciding on whether to get the nikkor 24-70 or 16-35 for the wider angle... not very happy with my sigma 24-70 but still acceptable for the time being.

No I don't think there will be any replacement for a lens this new. Professional grade lens only replaced every 8 years or more. I will be going hk this year too, hopefully can get nice bargains there tongue.gif
*
i heard from someone that lens are generally cheaper in thailand too. any truth in this ?

Are you on DX or FX? The thing is what is the preferred focal length? What type of photography interest you? 24-70 is pretty nice on FX for most type of general photography but I find a little limiting on DX. Most of the time the 24mm on DX is not wide enough. The 16-35 should be nice on DX but depending on your preference, it may be a little wide on FX.

But if you're specifically looking for 24-70, the Nikkor is the better one.

*
im a FX user , using D700 at the moment. landscape, portraits and street photography are what interests me. i like the 24-70 range but i do not have anything wider than the 24mm now. am thinking whether or not to sell the sigma 24-70 and my 80-200mm two touch and just get the 24-70 nikon lens.

hehe you top up rm1k to get the nikkor 16-35 is a very good deal lo ! let me see how much i can sell the sigma lens first. but very tempted to get the 16-35mm. post more poison here if you can tongue.gif

QUOTE(Tony Stark @ Mar 14 2011, 03:45 PM)

The 24-70 is wide on FX but not too wide. Not that you cannot do landscape on it. 24mm is fine. It has excellent range for portraits to street photography. If you're fine with the range of the Sigma 24-70, you'll be fine with the Nikkor 24-70.

If you have extra funds, then perhaps go with the 16-35 for wide angle.
If a person says he wants the 24-70 range, how can you recommend the 16-35?  rclxub.gif

I think in terms of priority, the 16-35 can come later after the 24-70.

*
yea. not too wide but 24mm is good enough for landscapes. How is the performance of the lens at 24mm ? I am fine with the range of sigma 24-70 i am just not too happy with the sigma performance. I think i will get the nikkor 24-70 lens first then when i have extra funds then can the 16-35 for the wide angle tongue.gif

I asked before long time ago already. It's actually a spam. They will always ask u to bank in the money first and promise to ship to u as well as give u the tracking number etc. Don't fall for it.

Down side of taking 14-24 is hard to take care lo since cannot put on any permanent UV filter on it for protection. dry.gif

I am one of those who offload my whole canon line up for nikon 2 weeks ago. I love the video & lenses that canon produce. To be honest, it took me 3 weeks to think about jumping and now after jumping, I did not regret at all. Nikon got everything I wanted, high ISO, high fps body and lastly full frame.  tongue.gif I say that if you shoto stills,Nikon is a better choice. But video performance, canon is on the better side.  rclxms.gif

congrats to you jumping ship to nikon ! smile.gif welcome to the dark side tongue.gif
