I'd get Vagrant Story. Vagrant Story and Chrono Trigger are the two best RPGs of its kind.

Parasite Eve is good, but it moves too clunkily to be an action RPG, because they just slapped RE controls on top of it. Story is not bad though.

I'm still getting 3rd Birthday. 3rd Birthday should have gotten a console/PC treatment, not portable.

'Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules' schooled the hyped 'Sucker Punch' over the weekend, scoring an est. $24.4 million versus $19 million...

Suck it! Even a kid's movie WITH a storyline, deemed better with the crowd than a glitzy music video WITH a skimpy story.

Remember kids, skimpy skirts doesn't make a blockbuster box-office. Plans backfired, Snyder-san?

IF you asked me based on the trailers of the two months ago before they were out now, I would never imagined picking "Wimpy" over "Sucker Punch". You ask the same question to the folks who had zero ideas about both of them (whether they are from a book or good franchise), which is more likely they would see?

Bottom line, "Sucker Punch" bottomed out.

i tot blockbuster doesn't necessarily required to have a good storyline  hmm.gif

it's not like they nominated themselves for an oscar or anything  smile.gif

Google "blockbuster" and this came up:-

QUOTE
block·bust·er  (blkbstr)
n.
1. Something, such as a film or book, that sustains widespread popularity and achieves enormous sales.
2. A high-explosive bomb used for demolition purposes.
3. One that engages in the practice of blockbusting.
[Sense 3, from blockbusting.]
So that means I'm right.

Oscar-nominated movies are almost always never a blockbuster.

So if it doesn't aim itself to be thought-provoking or a thinking movie, it is produced for only one other thing, for "blockbuster" purposes, be it monetary or mineshare. And from the looks of things, the movie fails on that front. It also is so shallow to be classified as thought-provoking, so what is it now? An abomination? Not a movie in the sense? Hence why I call it a fanboy's orgy of a music video. And the fanboy in question is Zack Snyder himself. He's wanking and masturbating to his own creation without putting purpose to his creation.

The reviews says otherwise. The ticket sales also reflects what I commented. I like going against the popular opinions myself too but when something is as obviously a tragic mess like this, no amount of spin can save it.

Nobody says you can't enjoy a bad movie. I have my guilty pleasures as well. Saw series, The Human Caterpillar and Scott Pilgrim rates high on my Like List. But you cant deny the fact that as a coherent movie, it fails, and movies are about story-telling, not glitzy graphics. I find it funny that for the Nintendo crowd, that this did not hit home straight away, isn't Nintendo's about the the "complete package" instead of "just glitzy graphics" like the PS3?

Critics panned my beloved Saw series, but I still watch it. I grown to love it, but it doesn't mean I cannot see past my love for it that it is indeed broken on many aspects.

Just wished that it had more than just gun-toting babes. An overarching semblance of a story maybe? Medium that fits "gun-toting babes" is videogames, not cinema. Ask Lara Croft or Bayonetta. They do well in that field. With that similarity, we all know what kind of substance these two "gun-toting babes" fit in their videogame iterations, or lack thereof. Which ties with my point of "visual masturbatory and nothing else" comment I made that this movie promotes. wink.gif

we just have to agree that some ppl just enjoy all sorts of movies be it genius, romantic or just plain visual masturbation...no amount of review or things like that can prevent oneself from enjoying/hating somethings that we thought were not enjoyable/not at all.

ppl dun like spirits within but i like it..VERY MUCH!

I'm talking about general consensus. Sure, every one of us are prone to personal preferences, ultimately the numbers will be there to show what the general populace think about the movie. Usually general likeness goes hand in hand with blockbuster numbers but a lot of times, that does not happen too. You and I can debate till the cows come home but the numbers don't lie. Whether people are with the numbers and I'm sync with the thing being talk about, that's a discussion meant for a different thread, maybe?

Bottom line, numbers don't lie. Just like what the number "6.5" being thrown around meant by the folks around here. icon_rolleyes.gif

Yup, numbers, football tables (goddamn u Man U), ticket sales don't lie, but that's the beauty of movies. Eventhough the number say otherwise, there are still some people who enjoy stupid, unlogical, no storyline movies. have you watch Norwegian wood? It got good reviews but hell its boring like the book. Heck, some people enjoy watching the stinkest film of all time, "The Room". Go watch it and have a laugh.

Its also like record sales, why Gaga's numbers are much more higher than Radiohead eventhough Radiohead's music is waaaayyy more better than Gaga's.A lot of reviews are harping over her music, giving high scores. The general public are buying them, hence the high numbers for Gaga. Yet, does that makes it a better record than Radiohead?  Is Halo 3 really that good eventhough reviews are praising and its selling like hotcakes?

So, the general consensus alone can't determined weather its good or bad. It may influenced others but not me. An Aesthetic  of ones art is a subjective matter. Its a beautiful beast. Dada-ism design is famous in the 80's but does make the design nice, for me it looks really ugly and monotone. The general consensus thought it was the breakthrough in design, but hell its ugly for me personally.

So, you may give it a 6.5, but I'll give SP a 9/10 for being an eyecandy. Oh, the camera works in SP reminds me alot of Michel Gondry, the master of cheap camera tricks biggrin.gif

Agree to disagree then? I can't shake this feeling that everytime I go look at Metacritic and Rottentomatoes that there's more folks of the likes of me, of the same consensus as I do, than the niche fan of this movie. I'd find it easier to stomach if there is some admittance that the movie is diverting itself away from what a movie should be, rather than claiming individual/personal preference as a copout.

Easier way to put it, majority of the people who had watched the movie, including those who take movie as seriously (movie critics) one who made bread and butter out of their daily lives, had opinionated that it is a failure. Select few may enjoy it for its other embellished aesthetics, but not enough to sway the general consensus that it fail to operate as a movie in a the story-telling department. Can we at least agree on that? I agree 100% that it get perfect scores 10/10 if a movie is graded based solely on visuals/eyecandy/cameraworks, hence why I labeled it as such, a visual orgasm, with no tangible core. Sure you get your fix, but it's short-lived, and you start craving more. When does the movie now stop being a movie, than just visual satisfaction? The closest I can relate to this is a tech-demo, or a music video of fat-bottomed ladies gyrating to rap music.

Movie=moving pictures, moving pictures needs a plot, at least a plot tangible enough to keep the audience emotionally invested well after the visual assaults numbed their eyeballs. After all you can only stomach so much of one thing before you start craving something more substantial. Like porn, everyone likes them, but after a while, you've seen them all in all manners of positions, genres, etc. I mean, how many times can one stomach Baby Doll swaying before starting to question if every other target they're trying to pickpocket of at the asylum is either depraved of sex, or mentally deficient?

Two dimensional characters, no matter how much you try to make them look beautiful, can only go so much. Like polishing a turd, no matter how shiny the turd gets, it is still a turd. Granted it's shiny, but it still stinks.

One saving grace of this movie, is the music. I already cant get enough of Emily Browning's rendition of "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" and Queen's mashup of "I Want It All/We Will Rock You". But that further strengthen my opinion that it's a demonstration of this movie's strengths in the wrong places: music and visual, when it's the plot that needs help. It's like they're trying to pad the weaknesses in the movie's plotline by assaulting you with visuals (flashy SFX, fastcuts and crazy camera sweeps, naked ladies), and music. Starting to sound like a music video now, isn't it?

But hey, just my two cents. I understand your affiliation and fondness in this since you're in the business of visuals/graphics yourself, so I'm trying to put myself in your shoes now. But I still cant shake this feeling of "polished turd, no matter how shiny it is, still smells". No hard feelings. icon_rolleyes.gif

See, saya suka glitzy graphics too. But according to its medium lah. I don't expect movie-grade storyline in videogames, but I expect some form of storytelling qualities in a movie. I certainly don't expect folks to forgive glitz/flashiness more suitable/relatable in videogames to be accepted as a norm in the medium of cinema.

Oh well.

Saya setuju, to each his own. But like I said, liking something does not mean I cannot agree or accept the fact that it is broken or flawed. Saya suka korek idung, but it is a personality flaw. Memang sedap korek, but should I ignore the bad qualities of it? sad.gif
