Or you can use apndroid app. It has a widget for ready switch.

hi guys,
downloaded the firmware but only got 1 .tar file,
where to get modem CSC and stuffs?
tq
*
If you look at the samfirmware.com guide, there's a difference between needing repartitioning or not depending on the file has one, or three files. I have indian stock rom with 1 file only.

Modem performance varies according to region, carrier, phone and other, factors.

Some modems may have better battery life but poorer radio signal. Some has more accurate gps signal for a particular modem but not to other people.

If you want to know which one that gives the best performance, I suggest downloading all popular modems such as jq1, jve, jpp, zsjpe and others (link at front page). Put them in sdcard. Reboot into recovery mode and flash one of the zip files. Test one at a time.

ANyone with 3button combo problem? I tried flashing the 3 button combo fix with odin. it's bricked now. Only show Phone ! PC icon when try to boot. Is my bootloader still intact?? I hope so. So USB JIG can get into download mode in this condition??? anyone experience this??
*
hmm, quite a number of people has their phone soft-bricked when fixing 3b combo using odin and heimdall.

Usb jig should get you download mode. Once you get it, flash any stock rom.

Alternative to usb jig is to use hairdryer method, just be careful because you do not want to heat up the whole phone.

I agree with freakfingers12, flash to stock rom and see if the flickering persists. Flickering could be due to kernel or hardware.

hi all... newbie for samsung galaxy s here...just want to ask, is it "root" same as apple jail break ? beside that, if we fail in flash new rom, is it possible to re-flash again ? sorry so many question...
*
Rooting will give you "administrator" access. So, it's the same thing as jailbreaking an iphone. It's just that we can do a lot more after after rooting an android phone because it is an open platform.

QUOTE(JynoRip @ Mar 21 2011, 12:21 PM)
thanks andrain
beside that, is there any solution to download the original rom ? so scare to root the new device...worry the warranty void... @.@
*
Like kh cheah said, can revert to stock firmware. Rooting and flashing custom rom will only temporarily recede the warranty. After you flash to stock rom, samsung customer service won't know what kind of hacks you did to your phone.

Ola fellow SGS owner!!

After a few month using Darky's v8.0 Gingerbread Edition, I want to flash to a newer version with hope of a better battery life.

Any suggestion?

Thanks for the advice ( in advance ).

Cheers!
*
I recommend sweethoney. 2.7 version is going to be released soon.

But I also learned that you can do the same if you use handcent sms app.

do i have to root my phone in order to change the theme?
*
You need to install a custom rom first before you can change themes.

Rooting is not required before flashing a custom rom. But if you root first, then you can backup all data and apps and have them restored when you finished flashing a custom rom. If backing up apps are not important, then you can skip rooting.

interested about this also..
if i want to change bootanimation.. and if i use doc's kitchen.. is it this what i need to do?

1) In "Base Rom" - choose update.zip
2) The other section select "no in update.zip"
3) In Apps Section just leave it blank..
4) In Boot Animation - choose which boot i want
5) flash in CWM by apply update.zip

is that all? can work with any rom?
*
As of the instruction in first page, yes. that's all.
Should work in any rom, it's a normal CWM package.

Flashed to ZSJPJ yesterday. I think the original kernel is faster.
Because after I flashed to Speedmod kernel k13c-500Hz, found that no different. May be I need to do some tweak, do I?
Anyway, speedmod kernel drains battery very much faster than the original ROM...
So, guys know which to choose, right?  biggrin.gif
*
speedmod kernel is almost useless without the tweaks. enable them and you'll see the diference.

I am using stock zsjpj. going to test the battery and overall smoothness before flashing a custom rom tomorrow.

stock rom is way too ugly. so I'm experimenting with adw launcher + desktop visualizer. I only use two screens. I now have a more minimalist home screen than before smile.gif

screen 1:simi clock (with clock and calendar app when the clock widget is clicked) + desktop visualizer

screen 2: simi folder + desktop visualizer

Thanks.
*
the kitchen is only for rooted custom rom only. thus, can be applied to darkyy's, but not for stock rom

Indian package has a leather pouch. Different region may have slight difference in packaging. If anyone in Malaysia can take a photo of the earphone, it would be greatly helpful to him.

The photo in the first page may be to decipher.

- Zsjpj is surprisingly smooth! It's been a long time since I've used a stock rom - since october last year!
- lost 6%/4 hours with wifi on. Not bad.
- since stock theme is too iphone-like and cannot change to a custom theme, I played around with desktop visualizer thumbup.gif

So, gmhafiz. My feel is right. Snappy Stock ROM. And Save battery.
Mind telling how to do tweak in Speedmod. Coz I just flash and no adjust any settings before.
Do I find that in first page or speedmod page?
*
Well when I used stock rom back then, it was smooth as well (maybe less smooth with some jerkiness). But due to RFS corruption, the phone lagged very badly after a week use. Speedmod, voodoo and others do not have this problem. I do not intend to stay with stock rom.

For speedmod tweaks, just enable the recommended one. Even better, enable the ext4 lagfix.

Moreover, these custom kernels save more battery, I can get 1%/1hour idle drain with wifi on. When I oc/uv, battery saving is even better.
