I don't think USA PR's are that easy to get, besides I don't think it is fair for me to ask them to leave all their friends and whatnot just to start over at a foreign land. Also, they would be pretty old by the time I can afford to do so, so yeah, not very feasible, thanks for the suggestion though!  biggrin.gif

US permanent residency is indeed difficult to get.

Not that I want to, lol, but I can't. Permanent residents can only sponsor spouse and immediate family under 21.

Mind sharing how you got your permanent residency? And I'm guessing you're from the East Coast based on your post time, unless you're an early riser.. haha. Greetings from the Lone Star State!

Oh, we're in the same time zone then! I'm still trying to get adjusted to being two time zones away from my girlfriend, as I just moved from California. Texas isn't actually that bad.. the gas here is a whole dollar cheaper than in Los Angeles, the Tex-Mex food is awesome, and the Southern hospitality is hard to beat! Now, as for the Midwest.. well, it's actually not too bad. I hated Nebraska though.
You probably read the conversations above wrong, actually it is me who is "from one of the UTs". Haha. Unless spunkberry is a former Longhorn. Or Roadrunner. Or <insert mascot of other UT campuses>.
*
I've been spoiled by the Midwest. Everywhere else I go within the US, I feel has attitude problems. The Southern hospitality I feel is a bit of a farce but it's nice when you remove my cynicism lol. The Midwest is actually renowned for the laidback, easy-going nature of its people... we just have a bit too much corn around tongue.gif

I am not from any of the UTs, but UT Austin was my second choice uni, and because of the common app, I was also going to apply to A&M. What are you? Longhorn?

QUOTE(MisterLee @ Oct 8 2014, 05:07 PM)
Texas is pretty cool! Ignore the stereotypes of conservativeness please! Austin is the liberal oasis in Texas. And its job market is significantly better than California, unless you're in the Bay Area or Silicon Valley.

Can't ignore it all the time. lol.

I agree on the corn part. As I drove across the Midwest, I remember particularly hating Nebraska because of the straight-down roads that offered nothing but endless fields of corn, as far as the eye can see. It also reminded me of 'Children of the Corn', and an English Literature class I once took that was taught by a Cornhusker. He forced us to read Nebraska-related titles such as Willa Cather's "O Pioneers!". Needless to say, I have something against Nebraska.. hahah. I liked Iowa, though.

A&M was my first choice. I completed my AA degree of 2 years at a community college earlier this year (Spring '14) and applied to be an Aggie. However, they were only admitting students for the Spring '15 intake. This was a mistake on my part for not being thorough. So the law dictates that if you aren't attending school full-time for one semester or longer, you have to return to your home country. I can't do this because my whole family just moved to Houston in summer! With that in mind, I winged it and applied to UT San Antonio. I would've gone to UT Austin if the tuition costs weren't so high.. so here I am in UTSA, knocking a few more classes out of the way for half the price that I would pay in UT Austin until I could be in A&M. If that fails, I guess I'll just jump over to UT Austin - the Jackson School of Geosciences is pretty good.

Haha I have a coworker who is also a good friend outside work, and he's from Iowa. Attended University of Iowa for grad school, and identifies as a Hawkeye. We give him way too much shit about it.

So you're an up-and-coming Aggie/Longhorn huh? Nice. I'm a Boilermaker.

Yes, I'm a future Aggie/Longhorn! I'd better make up my mind fast about it though, I've got friends on both sides who are ready to pounce on me once I defect to the other.. I'm not sure if Boilermakers and Hoosiers practice this kind of rivalry. Do they? haha
*
Oh they do. During the Bucket game, we had some IU students take pictures with our Neil Armstrong statue and the comments were "THAT'S THE CLOSEST YOU'LL EVER BE TO AN ENGINEER!".

So yeah, it's an intense rivalry.

Today, I learned that Neil Armstrong was a Boilermarker haha. And as for the school rivalry - that's intense, but I've seen worse. Back in SoCal, the USC Trojans/UCLA Bruins rivalry certainly puts other schools to shame. I've seen Bruins hire private helicopters just so they could perform 'aerial attacks' by dumping yellow and blue paint over the Trojan statue. That definitely takes it to the next level. It certainly seems fun to be part of a big family and subculture associated with school teams - something I have yet to attain. smile.gif

First and last men on the moon were Boilermakers, b****es!! School pride! XD

School Pride? tell me more.

In the US, at least, you retain a very strong affiliation with your undergraduate university, mainly in sports and achievements by alumni (unless you attended a nobody school and then a big university for a graduate degree). School pride. My workplace is "segregated" into those who attended which school, and oh my god the trash talking when sports season (football, basketball) comes around.

The Purdue-IU rivalry? No matter who we play in football, when we're in the stadium, we have a specific cheer for "IU SUCKS!". Because IU always sucks. wink.gif

lol it never ends with IU dude. I was just at a bar this past weekend and met an IU guy, and immediately we were both like ... NOPE! TALK TO THE HAND! XD

My friend was at another bar and she said there was an IU girl dancing around and she told her boyfriend "That girl better not touch me!" XD

It's pretty bad lol

hi.. what do you think of chances in  applying the green card lotery of US citizenship nowadays?is it high?

You can apply, but the chances of you winning it are really small. It hasn't really changed much over the years.

anything to include taht increases the winning chances?maybe a quality multitalented professional???

There are already minimum level of education requirements to apply for the lottery, the least of it being a high school diploma holder. Of course, if you're tertiary educated in a specialized field, your chances may be higher, but you mustn't forget that you're not the only one in the pile of thousands of people.

I realize that this thread is nowhere close to its post limit, but I feel that the first post is a bit cluttered, and this thread isn't used nearly as much as it should be.

Would a new thread help?

spunkberry Yeah I kinda agree if you are considering to start a new thread. I can supply some resources (I am thinking Google Docs to first gather the resources)

I can clean up the first post for the new thread, and can add more relevant sources from your compilation.

I think better transfer program info would be good too.
