infection is usually detect by high vaginal swap and culture+sensitivity..

the main purpose of pap smear is look at the cell morphology... however, in some case, for research purpose, they do virology test from the cell sample for HPV infection.

Well, check out reports of pap smears. Or, even under the classification you'll see "inflammatory cells" in the list! smile.gif

Generally you dont rule out infection with this..come on, there's so many other ways! There would be symptoms man! tongue.gif

In this country? Less than half the number of people who SHOULD do a pap smear.. Main reason? Ignorance..

publicity is there, but ppl feel too embarassed to get their privates examined and cells taken....In the UK, there is a call back system for ppl who miss their pap smears when its time to take them, therefore their coverage rate is quite high. We dont have that here yet. Ppl usually forget or dont bother with their screening especially since it is only to be done 3 yearly.

Anyways, with reference to your earlier post, clue cells are found in bacterial vaginosis, the atypical cells in pap smears have a whole range of classifications based on the Bathesda system.
