I have been thinking to change the thermal compound in my laptop, was wondering which ones are the best? Or all of them are similar??

I see some China brands one, and there's Artic Silver 5, IC Diamond, OCZ Freeze and all have different price tags...

Was wondering which one should I choose?

P.S. Does it void the warranty? I googled and most ppl said No but just to clarify it here...

Haha I am not in Malaysia la.. Saw in eBay..
Is it any good? I read somewhere which reviewed like 80 different thermal compounds.. AS5 seems rank slightly better than OCZ freeze.. Then after that IC diamond slightly behind OCZ freeze..

AS5 is very cheap though.. 5 pounds only..

Astria can elaborate more why AS5 is out? As of my knowledge, all these thermal compounds have metal contents as well?

Hmm.. According to here, most of it are Aluminium Oxides... AS5 is polysynthetic silver.... I am guessing Silver is better??

Added on February 23, 2011, 6:16 amAnyways, I decided and went ahead to buy a IC Diamond 7 CPU Thermal Paste for £4.75 and Tuniq TR-1 CPU thermal paste remover cleaner for £3.99 from eBay... Hopefully it would be the right choice lol...

I hope someone could enlighten me with some guides though... Do I just put a rice grain size of the paste and that's it or I have to spread it myself?? Because there're quite a few different methods somehow, dunno how should it be... Any specific guides for Asus lappies?

Personally I rather get a plastic glove and spread the thingy myself over the chip til there is a more or less even layer.

Ok I just found out that there's a warranty sticker if I remove the Heatsink... Reconsidering my choices now..

UPDATES*

FINALLY... Can't resist and decided to open my A42Jv.... Najsmod's guide in the A42 thread helped me quite a lot, at least the first half of it... After I opened the laptop cover, I only realised that I basically need to dismantle the whole thing to reach the heatsink...

Since I already opened half, I decided might as well try it till the end... When I finally reached the heatsink... There's a warranty sticker on the screw of the CPU heatsink.... So I tried to peel it off without tearing it, applied thermal paste and then sticked it back... Well, it does looks like its been touched before, but the sticker is not torn yet, I am wondering whether they would void my warranty? I am a bit worried now...

So I put back everything and found out I left out a screw which I haven't used @.@ I had no idea where it come from LOL...

Anyways, I turned on the laptop, THANK GOD it functioned as normal... It was the scariest thing I did in a very long time... It would have been quite a hassle because I dun have a backup laptop to use LOL...

Regarding temperatures, I still find it not much difference on light browsing... Does it need any recurring time for IC Diamond 7??

I used the rice grain method, didn't spread it myself.... I'll try to load games and see later...
