QUOTE(kamion @ Feb 25 2013, 10:41 AM) I think people seldom use those little square tiles for edge/corners nowadays. I used PVC strip and it's looking good so far (after 1.5 years). Used it on walls in kitchen and bathroom, around window frames and wall corners. For floor and countertop, I just asked the tiler to round down the corners of the tiles. can u take a picture of ur counter corner?i dun really understand wads a pvc trim.btw read abt ur feruni tile chipping.at least its not noticeable =) btw how do we determine the strength of a tile?Oi meann i dowan to get it installed then having it chip some time later. |

QUOTE(cheefai7 @ Apr 3 2013, 03:38 PM) Just wish to share a LYN user experience, "kamion" on tile selection: did u tile up from d floor as in d area covered by your kitchen cabinets?" For my kitchen: Table Top: Niro Horizon Stone GHS04 Ash Lappato 60x60cm Floor: Niro Horizon Stone GHS03 Sahara Matt 60x60cm. Wall: MML WG021 Gloss White 30x60cm So far after 1.5 years, I haven't had any problems with my wet kicthen table top. Lappato surface is a little rougher than matt, so there are no finger print problems at all. Porcelain tiles are very tough, and none have scratched or cracked. Even if it were scratched, it'll be hard to see on a lappato surface. We chop chicken and things on a chopping board on top of the counter and it's no problem. Matt flooring for wet kitchen is a must. In fact, matt tiles can still be a little slippery when wet, and you still have to be a bit careful, but you slip a bit and then your feet finds some grip. Lappato is more grippy, so it's up to you if you want to go for lappato surface floor as well. The MML tile I chose for my wall is a ceramic tile. Ceramic tiles are not as strong as porcelain, and have higher absorption, but it's good enough for walls. We bought one of those cooking protective aluminium sheets and stuck it on the wall under our exhaust hood and behind our cooker so we can wipe off the grease from cooking. As long as you keep the wall near where you cook clean (wipe it every day after cooking), it''ll be fine. For our bathroom countertop, we didn't have the money to go for granite tops, so we used Feruni Black & White Aludra Black AL81NN 60x60cm. This is a gloss surface tile, and it's easy to see water stains on them, though they can be wiped off. I wouldn't recommend the same Feruni tile because they seem quite brittle and actually, there a chip already in our bathroom near the edge where our tiles rounded the tile to make the edge less sharp. Hope it helps. Kamion " |

QUOTE(Lya1982 @ Apr 13 2013, 07:58 PM) Hi anybody know what is different between homogenous, porcelain and technical porcelain tiles. Which one is superb for table top. Also wonder which brand is ok white horse, guocera or MML? tq homogenous means d tiles same colour/pattern even on d inside, porcelain tiles r harder n i think all homogenous tiles r porcelain tiles.i donno wads technical porcelain tho.from wad i gather, porcelain tiles r d best for table top.so far i think niro homogenous tiles give me d impression that its tough.its thicker than other tiles. |

QUOTE(Dagashi @ Apr 9 2013, 11:57 AM) How unfortunate. i dun understand nano treated tiles.wad brand specifically carries them?Another lesson learnt is extra money should be spent on tiles which have been "nano treated" or coated. It's money well invested.. especially as its Easier to clean any spills, marks stains. etc. Less porous. water also beads and it's so much easier to clean up. |

QUOTE(Dagashi @ Apr 15 2013, 09:48 AM) I think MML has a range that is nano treated. I think we bought ours from there. 2 x 2. lol can i borrow ur wife to qc my tiles for me When shopping around for tiles, we went directly to the manufacturers. they have humongous warehouses which showcase all the different types of settings the tiles can be used. Very useful in picking out a set of tiles for one room. Especially knowing which tiles are suitable for which areas. After that.. note down the numbers of the tiles you like. and take a picture just in case you forget.. then go to the normal contractor shops and ask for quotation. (you might as well ask for a quotation at the manufacturers also.. they may give you a good price as well). Also.. another tip I learnt from the tilers is that you should not try to stinge on cheaper lower grade tiles. Apparently tiles have different grades. The higher the grade. A or A1?? their sizes are more uniformed. As such they will be easier to place. Especially if you are "OCD" about the gaping and size and uniformity. As I understand, the lower grade tiles have some sizing issue. Some are bigger, some are smaller there is a few mm worth of "play" that they are allowed. However this is what my tilers told me long ago. Don't know if it's really true anymore or not. My wife was a bit OCD over the patterned tiles and took out each tile for inspection. those that the printing was a bit off or not so pretty, she put it one side and the nice ones she put to another side. The pretty ones would go to the eye-level while the uglier ones would go to the top/under the cabinets. |
