Soviet,

Yes price of susu almost same as cement only comes in smaller pack..

I was thinking to buy more "susu" using my own pocket to give the contractor workers to mix, in case the contractor plans to save some cost.. Spending few hundred more to get a more secured job saves the hassle in the future, why not correct?

But the susu only applies for wall tiles? Regarding those 2x2 tiles not able to stick on the floor properly is not due to susu? Heard so many different contractor's opinion not to buy 2x2 tiles due to tiles may pop up in future, even though cement + sand is applied evenly.
*
According to source,
the susu only suitable to stick between cement sand and tiles,
u provide ur own susu the contractor can just take the susu balik minum brows.gif
I think 2x2 tiles also use susu, the problem is 2x2 tiles too heavy (i weight it before, bout 7.1KG per piece), not suitable for wall.
use 2x1 tiles for wall now, quite popular.
Wall tiles not so easy to popup if u do it until ceiling, if u do half height or half width, it will be easily popup if workmanship not good, because the wind goes into the back of the tiles.

Floor also got susu, if not might popup up also one.
but most important dun masuk wind inside the back of the tiles.

But mostly popup one is tiles on the wall.

So more susu better? Or correct mixture is more important?
*
still correct mixture.
Just like ur coffee, too much of coffee or too much of susu, the taste wont be good.

sovietmah, can you also share with me how to calculate to get the total sqft figure 1820sqft?

Coz when i calculated, i only got approx 722sqft....  rclxub.gif

Thanks ya.... smile.gif
*
Don't have excel.
I just roughly calculate because i check with a few contractor before.

Hacking 1sq of tiles = RM1.1 (indon)
Workmanship to lay 1sq of tiles = RM2.2-2.5 (sifu)
Material for 1 sq (cement + susu) = RM2+-

Tiles price local:
25cmx33cm = RM2.0-3.0
1x2ft = RM5.5-RM7.5
2x2ft = RM12-22 (very outdated no more production tiles can be RM12-15, standard on-going production tiles RM17-22, expensive luxury tiles like wood-pattern, 3d etc, can goes up to RM30 per piece)

All above depends on season, workmanship, location of ur renovation, size of the renovation (small area expensive psf, more bigger area cheaper psf).

Some contractor might have very cheap hacking tiles worker, but charge expensive on tiling, or earn from tiles price, or see ur water fish face then charge higher.

The price also might be increase since after our love jib jib up the petrol.

Room size: 7'x4'x10' (1st floor bathroom)
Tile size is about:10"x13"
Tile price per pc: RM2.5
Cost :RM3444
        :tile cost + tile installation/labour/cement/etc
: no hacking as it is new bathroom

Remark
Waterprofing,basin, tap,shower tap,etc are seperate charges.
*
About 280 SQ total.
So RM5.5 x 280 = RM1540.
10" x 13" = About 0.90 SQ (Assume to be 1 SQ).
So 280SQ * Rm2.5 tiles = RM700

TOTAL estimation = RM1540 (workmanship, cement, susu, hacking old tiles) + RM700 (tiles) = RM2240
So now he charge you RM3444, he will be earning 50% extra.
But I think you still can ask for some discount.

Below is my quotation last year March 2013 (My bath room exactly 7ft depth x 4.5 ft width x 9 ft height)

Probably the price already increase rapidly this year, but you can get a few quotation to compare.

i find this forum very informative
however, the pricing given here is much lower than i've been qouted by a few contractors
is it due to price hike? sad.gif

qoutation i've been received so far:

1. hacking n rubbish removal = rm2 - rm3 / sqft
2. labour+material (excluding tiles) for tiling = rm6.50 - rm8

can someone share their recent qoutation?  icon_question.gif

thanks.
*
What is the size of ur area.
Personally I find it a bit overpriced.

1. hacking old tiles = RM1-1.2
2. labour + material excluding tiles = RM4.5-5.5

Don't look down at RM1.
each one sq Rm1, 1000 sq become Rm1000 addition liao.. you can spend the extra 1K to buy 1 aircon liao.

total space for tiling upstairs n downstairs  ard 1000sq
and porch around 500sqf

Sounds like inflation already thanks to jib jib.

Hi guys, I plan to change my bathroom floor tiles because it is slippery. Measurement is 4.5ftx6ft (27sqft). It is ground floor do I need to water proof it too? They also need to re-install my WC and water drain but the location is same place.

How much it gonna cost me? Any recommendation for tiler? FYI, I am at PG.
*
Ground floor don't need, waste of money only.
But make sure pipe redo again because old pipe might leaked or burst anytime after hacking.
water closet look for 10-12 inches, if possible one-piece so easy to wash.
your toilet bout same like my one previously.

Suggest you change wall tiles also, or else difficult to match the color and pattern.
Hacking wise might also hack tio ur existing wall tiles... so u should change one shot instead.
Estimate 4K for ur bathroom (4 side wall tiles to till ceiling + floor tiles + workmanship + material + NO waterproofing).
excluding water closet stuff.

Relocation pipe mostly cost RM400-500 for ur case if u r moving water closet, outlet pipe, etc.

Hi guys, wanna ask for opinion..

I will be retiling my living hall..white color tiles 2x2...what color grout should i use?

I'd prefer white color grout to match the tiles but scared it'll get dirty very easily and becomes black in no time..

Can someone advise?
*
Never use white color tiles unless you have a maid clean it daily.
I am using white horse 2x2 Versare series (old series la no money buy new series).
https://www.dropbox.com/s/rcvzz1ysr0f36rj/IMG_2751.JPG?dl=0

for the grout, i am using ivory color.

If you still want to use white color tiles, white grout the better choice my point of view.

Want to ask you all

Any different for the cost to lay wall tiles vs floor tiles?

I was quoted by a contractor per sqft is RM10 for both wall and floor tiles. (for bedroom, bathroom and kitchen, all 10 per sqft)

Is that a reasonable price?

should I change my tilling sifu?

Really need expert advise please.

Need help

becoz my thinking is if the tiles aren't done nicely got chance others will explode as well so maybe remove all and replace with new flooring is good since price wise not really that far  hmm.gif
current trend is 2x6

i would've thought contractors love that size since it is bigger less work to do.
where are you located?
*
This is 1x2 feet is it? not 2x6 i think.
