Soviet,
Yes price of susu almost same as cement only comes in smaller pack..
I was thinking to buy more "susu" using my own pocket to give the contractor workers to mix, in case the contractor plans to save some cost.. Spending few hundred more to get a more secured job saves the hassle in the future, why not correct?
But the susu only applies for wall tiles? Regarding those 2x2 tiles not able to stick on the floor properly is not due to susu? Heard so many different contractor's opinion not to buy 2x2 tiles due to tiles may pop up in future, even though cement + sand is applied evenly.

the susu only suitable to stick between cement sand and tiles,
u provide ur own susu the contractor can just take the susu balik minum
I think 2x2 tiles also use susu, the problem is 2x2 tiles too heavy (i weight it before, bout 7.1KG per piece), not suitable for wall.
use 2x1 tiles for wall now, quite popular.
Wall tiles not so easy to popup if u do it until ceiling, if u do half height or half width, it will be easily popup if workmanship not good, because the wind goes into the back of the tiles.
