ur personal opinion ~ Galaxy S or incredible s???? must be worth every single cent ~
(galaxy s a lot cheaper but sometimes the cheaper one is better)
conclusion:
if hardware, SGS is better in terms of processor [GPU/chipset better] & screen display type
however for UI, back to own preference [try it ur own/see videos across youtube]
some like touchwiz[samsung] while some say HTC Sense is the best UI
i pretty like the features of HTC Sense like the flip-silent, when theres a phone call, u just flip over the phone call, then it would turn ur ringer off
not to mention again, IS got bootloader locked
so if u prefer to mod/hack/custom ur phone [like tuning/custom a car], IS is not ur choice for sure
for my personal preference, around that budget[1.3k?] i would get x10 or N8
[i prefer camera, not apps player nor customizing maniac]

Oh, how do I know whether the particular model support multi-touch?
Btw, I read about the type of touchscreen where the resistive type one detects pressure on the screen while the capacitive type ones detect some electrical properties of the human body, so does that mean that using a capacitive ones, you doesn't really need to press the screen? just glide it through and simply touch while the resistive type, we really need to apply pressure to it?
I also read about capacitive touchscreen doesn't support hand-writing recognition, is it?
Anyway, what's are the clear benefits from using a touchscreen phone?
multi-touch?
to find it out its pretty simple
usually can try out when @ picture gallery, web browser, navigation etc. or games
especially android which famous for the pinch-zooming, put 2 fingers & pinch zoom, if it works, then can pretty sure its support multi-touch
if in game, most ez to noe...
also checking out the spec sheet is much easier
i tried both resistive & capacitive touchscreen [SE Vivaz/HTC Magic]
well resistive are really need some "deep" press to give some pressure while the capacitive u just simply touch around the screen..
benefits?
u use touchscreen hence u got a bigger & better screen
having bigger screen is good when u play games, do navigation
cons are touchscreen phone usually have weaker battery life than normal non-touchscreen phones
