Lowyat Plaza sells them....like RM20 or something. Real cheap. But I don't really trust the sellers though; check the connectors, and the screw holes. Take your harddrive with you to test it if you can.

I don't know about "Imitation Unit". So that's why you need to test it first haha. Caddy case is universal, not only Sager.

If it fits, it fits. Just make sure the connector is right (SATA to SATA caddy).

ic... As you know in NBR, the culprit that is responsible for the random freezes is still not found yet.

I just asked my friend who have the 1st batch of NP8130, he say that he has experienced 2 freezes since his purchase.
and something weird. why isn't my post count increasing?
*
I've been following that thread since day 1.

I myself have not been plagued with the freezes at all. Just issues with Corsair drives.

And your friend here, which first batch are you talking about? The one before the Sandy Bridge recalls or the first batch after the SB fixes (I am in this category)?

@This is a Lamp

The first batch before the SB recall saga. My friend bought the laptop straightaway after it was announced. Haha.

From what he told me, the problem arises if he attempt to switch off the touchpad.
But from that NBR thread, those who never installed the Hotkeys drivers still experienced freezes.
*
Well the first batch SBs had the freezes concurrently. Somehow a small defective number went through the newer batches after the SB fixes.

The problem with the freezes is that it's random; there were many things tried and done but just too many variables. Then again, I remember one NBR member who was complaining all the time...he installed Linux instead, and no freezes at all. So "maybe" it might be Windows.

Aluene,

I tried your suggestion regarding the ACHI/IDE changes (SSD) in BIOS...but unfortunately it does not work. Did the same on my netbook, same result.

I just got my RMA number, so I'll be replacing the SSD tomorrow.

Yup, you might have bad SSD.
RMA is the way.

The weird thing was, it was working for a whole month since day one of my laptop. Sad. cry.gif

It's different for every reseller. Sometimes they give you good bags, sometimes no. The bag that included with mine is actually REALLY good, surprisingly.

My laptop is doing well with the slower Momentus XT (the OS loads fast though). Other than that, my Corsair SSD will be returned for replacement tomorrow, and I have a Crucial C300 SSD incoming next week hopefully.

Playing Crysis 2 multiplayer these days; pretty awesome. But I saw a hacker (so fast?) last night. 31 kills no deaths, and all his kills are headshots hahaha. Made the server so boring zzzz.

I'm studying as well. But have a part time job (playing guitar in a restaurant) here in Australia, and my recent work experience with an Engineering company in Malaysia (RM500 per month, cheapo :|) to fund my accessories haha; my first three years I did not spend a lot, so the money accumulated somehow.

Now I have the desire to spend it all biggrin.gif !

Thanks kahjye and carbonytte for the quick reply.

I think it is good to include such information regarding the shipping cost and tax free information in the main post for reference.

Oh yea, This is a lamp, I came across one of your topic in xoticpc regarding making payment from one country, but sending the laptop to another country.
In your case, you made the payment in Australia and requested the laptop be sent to Holland.
How did that work out? Did they allow you to do it in that way?

And is the shipping cost flat rate across the world? No matter you are shipping to Holland, Malaysia, Australia or any part of the world, the shipping cost is still the same?

Thank you. Forgive me for throwing lots of questions, just wish to get some answers for my doubt before placing an order smile.gif
*
OH ! Hahaha you dug up an old topic! It was when I was trying to buy my NP8690 /

They allowed me actually. It was an easy transaction; I did a foreign exchange transfer from Australia and did a change of delivery address to Holland. It was perfect smile.gif Shipping cost varies from countries though, and the tax varies; e.g. 200Euro tax for the laptop in Holland (urgh) and no tax for Malaysia.

In truth, the 485m still reigns supreme over the 6970m; the 485m has features built into (CUDA, PhysX etc.) even if the gains from the benchmarks are only a few centimeters higher. The ATI/AMD lineup has been plagued with slow release of Catalyst drivers (although I would think that they already have support for the 6970m.) The 485m has plenty of driver releases (3 - 4 already), but none have native support...yet.

Prince J seems trustable... especially he sells many other things...

but, when i look at the person who ordered from him on batch 1... mostly are new accounts holder...  sweat.gif

I don't know but I still think the GTX 460m is a good card...many underestimate it. I've seen users run Crysis 2 900p Extreme settings with it.

The limitation only lies with your power adapter being able to handle higher powered cards (e.g. 485m and 6970m).

Other than that, it is definitely possible to put the new GPU in the NP8130 to replace your 460m. I'd suggest waiting for the 6970m though, if you're tight on monies!

Metro 2033 still buggered haha. I don't have that game to test it though.

Some disheartening news for the NP8170 users from Sager:
The Sager NP8170 system will be split into 2 internal models, one with an NVIDIA GPU and the other with an AMD GPU. Note that these two models each require their own system version and GPUs will NOT be interchangeable. So, if you order an NVIDIA GPU system you will not be able to swap to an AMD GPU later, and vice versa.

New update regarding freezing issues from Sager:

System Freezing Issues: With help from many of , users, we have been able to sort out all the issues that were causing system freezing, and have worked with Clevo to resolve them. To just share some quick facts – since the B2 to B3 chipset revision, sager has shipped over 3000 units and we have only received one freezing system report, and that was a notebookreview forum user. Even this isolated incident was resolved by our latest BIOS revision.

We understand that many of other users on the forums may be experiencing issues still, but these should be on the B2 revision systems that are still due to be recalled. We are working diligently to provide recall program details in May-June’11, and assure you that your unit will be returned without freezing issues. We appreciate your patience.
