What you guy think about tamron1750mm VC ?

I dont like to use 3rd party (i did not say the 3rd party not good) but i have no choice , nikkor 1755mm out of my budget and i prefer to save the money to get 24-70mm, 24mm, FX as I need two bodies (FX and DX) one for video one for shoot

Well, optics wise its pretty good for a lens at that price. But it is slow in AF and also hunts under low light.
*
QUOTE(pikipiki @ Feb 18 2011, 09:35 PM)
Yes, I've tried it, both VC and non-VC tend to hunt in really low light situation. But after using the af assist from the external flash it hunts much much less(still hunt, but only shooting at far away subject). So put on the flashgun and it shouldn't be a problem using that lens.  smile.gif

People say the non-VC is sharper but the ones they're selling now comes with built-in-motor which is pretty darn slow to focus compare to VC.

So goin for the VC is better IMO.
*
Alright , thanks you celciuz and pikipiki

I wondering low light situation is how low ?

Let assume indoor with fluorescent light , will still hunt very frequently?

Im asking , because i want to get some ideas in my mind before i go try that len." Please dont reply go to try it at shop lar "

The purpose i wan this len is i wan the coverage of 17-50 with f2.8 , fast len.

How if tamron compare with sigma 18-50mm f2.8? which one better? thanks for telling me again

Normal indoor shooting definitely will have no problem(you can use your camera assist lamp anyway). Low light as in like those really really dim western restaurant or bar. Or at night shooting buildings or landscape.

Have no idea of the siggy 18-50, but for the other siggy 17-50, of coz it's better(less hunt, faster AF,near silent AF) since it's almost 800-1k more expensive.

Check the lens properly and try a few samples before choosing one, make sure the zoom ring is smooth, check the focus and check the mount. This are the few things that the tamron normally have defects at.

But for the price you really can't ask for much. smile.gif
*
Alright thanks you very much.

Ya siggy 1750 nearly 2.8-3k , if i wan siggy , i would rather get used nikkor 1755mm.

QUOTE(celciuz @ Feb 18 2011, 10:05 PM)
Low light refers to those cafe lighting, those yellow ambient lighting.

Thanks you !! biggrin.gif

The AF focus speed really does not matter for me , i wan accurate can d, as long as dont slow like turtle can d , and somemore im not using pro body , because usually the focus speed is affected by the bodies most right?

QUOTE(aldosoesilo @ Feb 19 2011, 12:57 AM)
get siggy 17-50 really heard a good review of it.
I prefer siggy to tamron.
*
But i would rather get nikkor used 1755 since siggy new and used nikkor 1755mm dont have much diff in price

Eh guy , currently there are a few options come in my mind

I wan a wide angle zoom len for DX body , i will stick to DX for quite long but i wan to change to a better DX body soon. and want to start fund for N len before move to FX.

First i was thinking tokina 11-16 f2.8 , but too bad i cannot auto focus using my current body now

1) Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6
2) Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 VC
3) Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 OS HSM
4) Suggest me nikkor as well

I keep asking myself whether f2.8 is important , yes it is important for me , but how do you all think ?

I need wide angle to shoot environmental portrait , adding drama to people , something like shooting people doing their works..

thanks for guiding me !

the wider aperture lets you blur the background so that your subject(people in your case) can stand out more. Also, it would come in handy in low light situation where you doesn't need to bump so much on your ISO.

If you can, find a cheap used nikkor 17-55.

Nikkor > siggy 17-50 > tammy 17-50
Never tried the siggy 8-16 before

Not to say im too rely to VR technology, but it is w/o VR. Maybe edward can try to give me some advise since he just sold his 1755mm.

But there's more and more rich kids nowadays. You never know one day all of them fell in love with dslr. Look at the kids with Macbook Pro, iPad,Iphone 4, Ipod nano, buy honda the second day they got their p license.  laugh.gif

If this rich kids around the world would go and buy some FX I'm sure the price would be more reasonable.  rclxms.gif

The last time I took 1635 for my 'wide angle' with my D90.
*
Haha , how it is with ur d90? it is f4 right?

QUOTE(edwardgsk @ Feb 19 2011, 11:11 PM)
Get D3100+ 16-35 LOL laugh.gif
*
Haha currently using D3100 , no built in motor make me hard to choose len.

QUOTE(celciuz @ Feb 19 2011, 11:05 PM)
Talk only la you, that time said Sigma 2470 good enough etc etc. End up also sell and buy 1635 haha!

Hard? Your choices are narrowed down to only AF-S lenses. It's making it easier to choose la tongue.gif

For me hard =)

Depend on person , with my tight budget it is hard

just like 11-16mm f2.8 i cannot use even i got money to buy

1755 nikkor? Best DX lens out there on shelf. Very nice focal length coverage for common usage. laugh.gif
It was my favorite lens to carry around before I got the 17-35 f/2.8D from my dad. smile.gif
I sold it away not soon after.
Heard a lot photographer who uses it said the same thing smile.gif
*
Yeah i think it is a good len but it is w/o VR , just now i try my kit len w/o VR shoot , my pic blur while i open with VR , i get sharper image . I'm afraid i cannot handle it as my skill not good , im not say w/o vr not good , i blame my skill.

Thanks for sharing me

instead of the Tokina 12-24 might as well go for the Tokina 11-16 since you already have the 18-70 to cover the range ...

thumbup.gif

no regrets ...
*
Tokina 11-16mm cannot focus on nikon d3100 if not mistaken

I visit KL bird park with 18105 last year with my friends, on the way back went to pick up a 70200 VRII after the bird park LOL! Damn impulsive cause I shoot bird like shooting landscape at 105mm lol~ Somemore that time VR2 just out and another friend got it and started poisoning me non stop. Damn.
I won't even look at those 2 brands to be honest  laugh.gif
Compared to Hoya HD, yes! Tougher to clean.
All new lens have AF-S.
I use 1635 too tongue.gif. I'm a DX user and now an FX user. Was thinking to grab the 1750 or rather the 1755, ended up with 1635 cause I know I will be going for FX.
*
Celciuz you make me want go for 16-35mm because u mentioned (i know i will be going for FX)......lol i just make my mind to go for 1750mm 2.8.

1750 is fine lah. You still can sell it away after you upgrade anyway. Its cheap lens to invest compared to 1755 nikkor biggrin.gif
Remember 16-35 is only F4 so don't expect to get very nice bokeh when taking half body or full body portraits rolleyes.gif
*
Ya , was thinking get tamron 1750mm VC after that only upgrade built in motor body

For me Hoya HD is better than XS-Pro in cleaning part ! But i dont mind to choose either one of them , both are good !

QUOTE(celciuz @ Feb 21 2011, 07:02 PM)
Really? But it looks ok on my 50mm f/1.8D though.
Haha, initially I went with 1635 on D90. Quite regret cause f/4 slow... That time I'm used to f/2.8 on my 70200 suddenly f/4 :S. A bit pekcek LOL.
Of course, there's many old lens still in production  wink.gif
*
Ya because f4 i dont wan to get , i wan fast len f2.8 below

anyway thank you for sharing ya !

i think i will pekchek like u because i also used to f2.8 below .

You can use all type len just depend whether you can autofocus or not

For AF-S , you able to auto focus and manual focus

Other than that , you have manual focus

If you tell me something like D700 which dropped price since it was introduced I think reasonable... but this 1755 f/2.8 so far not yet drop price before right? A bit risky tongue.gif. The new one probably would be the same price tag.

Not to mention this lens quite old already. The Canon have IS for theirs, Nikon should be coming up with a 4 stop technology VR too.
*
If got VR come out , i think i will straight go and buy ><" but i give up waiting , go for tamron , at first wanna get tokina 11-16 , too bad cannot autofocus ! feel like want to change body that time ><"

dont know if i should wait or get it early next month ...
*
Ask yourself izzit the range for you now is important or not ? if very important go and get now no need wait

Like me , not so important , so i dun mind to wait even though i 90% know they wont upgrade the lens to VR so fast yet.
