hey guys, would like to ask some question for all of you.

how crappy is DIR-615 that has been provided by TM?It seems ok when i'm using it with pc (normal surfing, youtubing, dowloading) but when i playing online with xbox live, i can't get full bars. sometimes i can get three bars of signal(yellow color), 4 bars (green - once in a blue moon) and one bar (frequent- red). playing black ops can be very frustrating because you have already shoot the opponent with full clip yet they still running around and kill you back.

I'm thinking to change my router to a better one but i'm not sure whether i'm going to ditch the DIR-615 completely and get Mikrotik switch with good router or just do the VLAN tagging with DIR-615 to another router. any significant improvement for these 3:

1- xbox>>DIR615 (crappy)
2- xbox>>>Router>>>DIR-615 (any improvement?)
3- xbox>>router>>mikrotik (any improvement?)

i'm quiet satisfied with the speed i got when using DIR-615 with pc, that's why i asked if any of you can give me the answer for my problem. Thanks.

p/s: my xbox is wired to DIR-615, not wireless.

p/p/s: i'm on vdsl, not ftth. yeah i know vdsl is not that good but i would be thankful if i can at least get 2 bars frequently.

Honestly I have a feeling that your problem isn't hardware related but internet related. Your Unifi's connection might be taking a different route from your previous Streamyx's (perhaps more hops or different exchange points) which might cause the problem.

i dont know man.. my internet connection seems ok but when it comes to online gaming...mehh....i know i can't do much but i'm considering any action/solution that is worth to try.

maybe just wait for the TP-Link 841ND unifi supported firmware then use 841ND completely replacing the dir615?
*
hmm...any idea when is that going to happen? anyway, thanks bro. mind telling me what's your unifi setup? custom router? mikrotik?

I realize high rise building, those who are on unifi get a higher ping return. For instance I get 5ms using speedtest, tested my friends connected who is on a high rise building he is getting 12-20ms, isit bcos using VDSL?
*
yes. i'm VDSL too and the lowest ping i can get is 45ms..

i wonder why vdsl have such high ping. mine is usually 45ms. playing COD black ops on xbox live sometimes can make you pull your hair out. but have no problem downloading demo on xbox marketplace.

Don't feel the "amazingness"... Placing in the store room got high chance of getting cockroach laying eggs on it or mouse pee on it (possible but i'm more to like jk). If it's a closed air with no ventilation, the router can be fried very soon. haha
*
that's true. D-Link Dir-615 can get very hot without proper ventilation. even put it under normal room temperature also can make the router untouchables due to the heat produced, what more a closed, poorly ventilated room.
