Don't know what match you guys were watching, but Lucas was the only central midfield we had trying to win the midfield battle. Meireles was outplayed and Gerrard was givign away possession and went sulking for large part of the game. Lucas was the only one who kept it tidy and cleaning up everyone else mess.
that is his primary duty... to do the defensive works, closing down and tracking back opponent, win the ball, stop the attacking moves and to a link between defenders and attackers... meanwhile Meireles and Gerrard have different kind of job. in tactical setup, we call it 'individual instruction'...
Sorry buts that bs. Good central mids dont really have to run around - if you do, it's because you were caught out of position. If you play it smart, you dont have to run around like a headless chicken and throwing tackles. You just have to be at the right place at the right time to close players down.
yes, but not for a defensive midfielder thou... defenders will be over exposed... when the defensive midfielder just too slow to cover and track back the opponents or caught ball watching...
One player can't win the entire midfield on his own. This is a team sport after all - look at how West Ham dominated us. It wasn't just Scott Parker alone doing the damage - all their midfield worked together to get into our box. But as you said, Lucas main duty is to mop up the loose end, but the reason why we lost is because the more creative and attacking mid failed to break down West Ham.
perhaps the frustration has blinded me from seeing his contribution... or perhaps I was just asking too much.
I'm not saying Lucas was flawless tonight, it wasn't his best game - not even close. He was a bit poor by his own standards but it's not right to say he was the main reason we lost. The pitch at West Ham is small so winning the midfield was vital - I dont think Kenny should have gone with his usual 3-5-2 here. Was there a need to have a 3rd CB ? Surely an extra attacking player like Maxi would had been better for us tonight. Our best game under Kenny was when he deployed that 4-3-3 or something of that kind against Wolves and won 3-0. Not sure why we have deviated from that and now seem to use 3 CBs in every game.
Never said anything like that... never blame a single individual for any lost... Just single out one player performance doesn't mean to blame him for the the team overall performance, let alone the final result.
also something to note, its kenny's first weekend match after a midweek europe game if im not mistaken though both sammy and clarke has lots of experience in that albeit as a no.2 . also i noticed clarke is more involved with kenny compared to sammy, was sammy around on the bench last night(unsure ) ?
It's a bit complicated seems Kenny is only (more like) a caretaker rite now.. Clark was signed as Kenny right hand man despite of his position as first team coach while Sammy remains as the assistant manager...
It's been a long time for our manager not to be heavily criticized after loosing to a 'lesser' team... even the press respects him...
true bro, exactly my thoughts as well but i have yet to get my first ORI jersey. that will come in the future
i think i saw an ori liverpool jersey at SOGO, for about RM100+. it was a carlsberg version but too big for me. it was L i think. probably some of you guys might wanna check it out. sadly i saw only one and it was dumped inside the 'crate'...
Added on March 4, 2011, 9:36 pmon another note, i think the FA should deduct Man City of points after Toure was found with banned substance. that to be fair to all the teams right?
it's an individual misconduct, didn't involve the club in general. What about the rest of City's players that have work so hard to get those points? It'll be unfair for them...
I lol-ed very hard when the players were having a go at each other after Rafael's challenge on Lucas. He just stood there with his arms fold watching the players shove one another like kids. Hahahahah! That probably made my day man.
I love it when Skrtel rushes forward and push Rafael... damn scary face. Reminds me of the old Skrtel.
what about Van der Saar elbowing Kuyt. obviously intentional. Should been red carded too.. If it was Nani instead of Kuyt, surely it's gonna fracture his skull already...
Starting XI tomorrow morning? Can't wait to see carroll in action again.
No Stevie tonite due to groin injury. I hope to see Cole, Jova, Maxi and Poulsen playing together (which is very unlikely).. especially Jova, he deserves at least a chance.
good to see Pacheco and Flanagan are among the subs..
and I don't think we're gonna add another striker next season... where we finish the season is gonna determine which set of players will be added. A LB is a must since Aurelio is too prone to injury and getting older, Konchesky is considered out while Insua's future is doubtful. But the most important thing is to sign King Kenny on permanent basis.
another defeat after big match win... same old story again. at least 3 players out of position, 1 used substitution, no shot on target, to many misplace passes... we deserve to loose this game.
For me, he's still our best striker since Fowler, he gave us plenty of happy memories, whatever he's doing rite now is not my concern. His name will still be written in the club's history for the contributions he's made. As for now hopefully Suarez and Carroll can offer a lot more.
As Kenny said, "The most important people are the people still at Liverpool and they always will be". "Whatever someone else wants to do with their life, that's their choice. The personnel of the opposition isn't important to me...."

QUOTE(cherroy @ Mar 12 2011, 12:51 AM)
I don't know why Torres keep on mentioning Liv.
If want to talk good about Chelsea, then just talk how well he feel about Chelsea, don't need to compare with Liv. As simple as that. Whether how bad was Liv, this is history already, everyone move on and see in front, not look back anymore.
Isn't it obvious? He's trying to win the heart of his new supporters. The best way to do it is to say bad things about the rivals.

arsenal and barca have much stronger football academy than us. look at the quality player barca has produced. maybe KD can learn something from there in order to produce more young star ?
an almost impossible task.. it took times.. a very long time. we need to start by building the reputations, nowadays every kid wanna join Barca academy, no wonder they can produce more talent. it requires money.. a lot of money. Barca can spend more than 10m on a talent and send him on loan... for us 10m is a lot even for the first team signing. and Barca B is playing in a competitive Second Division League.. no a reserve league as in England.
