Feel free to come and take the sounds in! hi brien, I'm from Singapore and I'm a trumpet player. I've played in numerous orchestras and bands. I'll be moving to Subang Jaya to study. I was wondering if there are any trumpet teaching job vacancies in this area. Also at the same time, where is a good place to purchase a trumpet, preferably a Bach Stradivarius. Do get back to me through pm. Thanks. I'd also like to continue learning the trumpet too. So if u could share good trumpet teaching institutes in this vicinity would be good. ThanksYou can check out the poster and stuff at my website, http://saxmalaysia.com |

Thanks I've replied to you. If you want to teach trumpet, I suggest you can apply to any of the Yamaha Music schools in SJ/PJ to be a trumpet teacher. There's a Yamaha in Taipan, Subang Parade 1st floor, and the main office in Kelana Jaya off the LDP. Added on April 26, 2011, 11:59 amAlto Saxophones also available for RENT. Now you can start learning sax without buying a brand new instrument! The deal is: RM200 deposit (refundable on return of saxophone) RM120 rental per month If you take classes under me, and decide to buy the saxophone, I will deduct all your rental payments from the purchase price! I have a question to ask pertaining to clarinet.
Usually when I play the clarinet, my bell (the bottom part) will be quite far from my body. But when I reach the high notes (D and above), I have the tendency to pull my bell near to my body. Is it natural to do that? Thanks!! |

QUOTE(Sayid Kasturi @ Jun 29 2012, 04:32 PM) I have a question to ask pertaining to clarinet. If you're doing that it means that you're changing the embouchure to your clarinet, maybe because your embouchure is inconsistent. Normally i would not recommend it, but you get a good sound, then there's no issue i guess.Usually when I play the clarinet, my bell (the bottom part) will be quite far from my body. This remind me..I've tried on a Oboe out of curiosity while I'm studying in UK 2 years back. The guy in this shop was so nice he actually gave me an oboe and a reed (not sure if i get that term right) to try out and taught me how to blow. And for the whole 15minutes, I can't get a decent sound..haha.. but when I passed it to my friend who was accompanying me, she got a nice round sound on her first try. =.="
But then, I would like to know, how much is the difference between clarinet and oboe? I saw many music school teach clarinet but couldn't find an oboe teacher. Some say clarinet is easier to learn compare to oboe. Is that true? Oh, and I'm a string and piano player. |

Clarinet is more versatile in that's it's often used outside of classical music compared to oboe. If you're looking for an oboe teacher you have to go to a specialist. Perhaps inquire from an orchestra like NSO. As far as which is easier they are not comparable. Both have their specific technicalities. Clarinet fingerings are more straightforward though. Clarinet gives transferable blowing and fingering tehniques that make it easier to play flute or saxophone, while oboe's cousin in blowing is the bassoon. Hope that helped! |

Hi there. Currently I am thinking of picking up flute for study. I'm self-studying though, in between my classes in uni. Currently, learning music theory, I kinda wanna ask, do you have any recommendation for affordable flute that I can use? Not so expensive, since I'm depending on my scholarship and all.
