Envy is one of the most forbidden sin in mainstream religions. People don't like to talk about it, and don't like to admit it, in order to save face.

Yet, suppression only leads to more confusion and anger, not to mention that one will evoke more negative emotions and even actions accordingly. It is definitely an unhealthy lifestyle.

Even the best of friends can become frenemies because of it. So, let's think about it for a moment, what causes envy and how do we resolve it?

IMO envy comes from the idea that we own things (and people) and hence everything must go according to our "rule" or "idea". This is a violation against personal liberty, even against science (because the world doesn't go by our "rule" or "idea").

For those who are feeling envy, the easiest (or the most difficult) way to lift that feeling (especially regarding relationship) is by acknowledging that everyone has their own free will and it is not our natural authority to command or determine other people's life. We can influence but we cannot force. To force is to ask for resistance and hence escalating the feeling of dissatisfaction.
