Poltergeist BD Review
Poltergeist actually came from 2 german word "Poltem" means noises & "Geist" means spirit, and the term itself means "Noisy Ghost".
It is by far one of my childhood film which I somehow loving it. The film is still as amazing and great effects done even it was release on year 1982.
This film has been nominated for three Academy Awards include Best Visual Effects. This film has been award of BAFTA Award for Best Special Visual Effects.
Weird Cut Off SceneI notice a weird cut off scene in between 34 minutes, the scene changes right in the midle of a dialog line, to a new scene where also in the middle of a dialog line.
I still remember this issue happening as well when last time watching in DVD. I google around and notice this issue is there after the 1st initiate VHS tape, which means it already being chop of during laser disc time, I curious how come this issue not being solve after so many transfer did. Something not suppose to see?
Even the origin source might broken, I believe it could be better cut or fix this weird part.
Internet source about this weird cut -
http://www.dvdtalk.com/dvdsavant/s20jc4polter.htmlFilm FactsI was shocking when reading the film facts at the booklet, I never knew of this, maybe just me never read about it previously.
- To cut costs, rather than construct the dozen of corpses featured in the film's climax, the effect crew purchase several real-life skeletons! The actors involved in the scene were unaware of this during shoot. Oh! no!, so poor the actress where she is actually shoot with those real skeleton!
- Dominique Dunne, who play the eldest freeling child was tragically killed the same year of the film's release! Beside this, Heather O'Rourke who played the youngest freeling child was tragically died also during the filming of "Poltergeist III". Above deaths has fuel a speculation that there is a "Poltergeist Curse".
Picture QualityI was shocking on how well this film being transfer since it is an old film from year 1982. Not talk about the weird cut off scenes around time of 34 minutes. This is by far the finest transfer I ever seen for 80th film. I give it full mark score of 5 star. It was spectacular amazing transfer which not lost it origin feel and minimize as most as possible the grain but no noticeable over DNR issue at all.
Audio QualityDialog is clear and strong background effect even though they is hardly any bass on it, for such decade film, it is well transfer as well. 4 star for AQ.
Extra FeaturesThey is only 2 short documentaries for the extra features which more over make you believe they is exist of ghost/spirit/paranormal activities in the world. I actually never denied existing of them.
Overall, another well recommended classic of the horror genre film produce by Steven Spielberg & Frank Marshall, direct by Tobe Hooper.
