Decided to join in this Superlux boat, wanna hear for myself what all this "fuss" is about laugh.gif Just paid for a unit of HD668B hehe...

Gonna test it out on my modded X-Fi XtremeMusic and soon-to-arrive Samsung Galaxy S (plan to mod with Voodoo Sound to fully unleash its Wolfson WM8994 DAC drool.gif ). Anyone looking for a good budget sound card can try hunting for a secondhand X-Fi (XtermeMusic or better) and then mod the card like me, cost RM70~RM80 to mod.

Just mod your X-Fi lo, most of the hardware is already pretty good... Downside is crappy opamp laugh.gif I bought a secondhand XtremeMusic for RM90, topup RM80 for the following mods, and now my card rocks flex.gif
1x AD8066 opamp
3x Panasonic FC-series 470uF 6.3v for CS4382 DAC vfilter, DSP vfilter & +5v supply
1x Panasonic FC-series 100uF 6.3v for -5v supply
4x Panasonic FC-series 22uF 25v for decoupling

For a little more, I think an OEM Xonar DX is better. Or you can try one of those B-grade (cosmetic defect) Prodigy HD2 from eBay biggrin.gif

i found this http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/944632 , is it good? or Xonar has something near that price?

Sound quality wise, it is similar to previous generation X-Fi, just that the Titanium has PCi-E interface, optical in/out, Dolby Digital Live and DTS Connect. Btw, stay away from XtermeAudio and other low profile/value versions of X-Fi. For Xonar, look in the Bulk section for OEM cards.

Now that I have some time, might as well post up pix brows.gif

For "Desktop" [J. River Media Center -> ASIO -> Modded X-Fi XtremeMusic -> Logitech Z-2300 -> Superlux HD668B]

Headphone stand of Philips SHP895. Stand, adapter, box and manuals are intact, but the headphone dunno mana pi liao sweat.gif The Z-2300's control-pod acts as a volume controller and amp I think, since I won't get any sound if the speakers are not powered.

For "Bedtop" [iPod shuffle -> Superlux HD668B]

Talk about short connections laugh.gif

And finally... Portable! [Modded Samsung Galaxy S Captivate -> Superlux HD668B]

Wolfson WM8994 DAC onboard! Voodoo sound kernel driver v7 with anti-jitter, D/A 128x oversampling and DAC direct enabled cool.gif

The bass of this baby extends really low and I'm rather impressed at how it could handle deep punches, clarity is admirable but I do find the highs a little bit harsh with one or two of my songs (where female vocals are involved), and that the pads are too shallow for my ears huhu... No complains otherwise, a good value purchase!

agree that the high are harsh. I m using the sr850 which is actually the same as the 668b. the pads are hot! hope trio get the velour pads soon.

Aha... It's good to know my ears are not to be blamed, but thankfully only a few of my songs are affected laugh.gif

haha i love your bedtop setup... recommend you get sansa clip+ to replace your shuffle though... biggrin.gif
*
Most probably not gonna change, have Fuze but it's too big laugh.gif Besides, the shuffle is so small and light that it virtually adds no weight.

u din put it through an amp and MAX VOLUME!! i did not expect it to go THIS DAMM LOUD...
