Andy Gray Sacked After Sexist Remarks

Sky Sports presenter Andy Gray has been sacked after he made sexist remarks about a female match official - and new evidence of "unacceptable behaviour" emerged.

Andy Gray was initially disciplined over off-air comments about assistant referee Sian Massey before Saturday's Premier League match between Wolverhampton and Liverpool.

But now Sky Sports have issued a statement saying Gray's contract had been terminated.

It continued: "The decision, which is effective immediately, was made in response to new evidence of unacceptable and offensive behaviour.

"The new evidence, relating to an off-air incident that took place in December 2010, came to light after Andy Gray had already been subjected to disciplinary action for his comments of January 22, 2011.

The off-air incident involved video footage showing Gray asking a female co-presenter to tuck in his shirt.

Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports, commented: "Andy Gray's contract has been terminated for unacceptable behaviour.

"After issuing a warning yesterday, we have no hesitation in taking this action after becoming aware of new information today."

In the wake of the sacking, Ms Massey announced she has withdrawn from tonight's League Two match between Crewe and Bradford.

Gray and his colleague Richard Keys originally came under fire after footage of them talking about the official was leaked to a Sunday newspaper.

The men were filmed agreeing women "probably don't know the offside rule".

Sky Sports reporter Andy Burton has also been taken off the air for his involvement in the exchange.

how is it too harsh? sexism is not a serious issue? plus he's a terrible pundit for sky, but a good co-commentator(with martin tyler of coz) for me, maybe becoz they featured a lot in big games since I started watching footie...nonetheless it's really a no brainer whether or not he should be sacked

Sky will be off better without him... there are tons of people queuing up for the job and they are all younger and good looking than Gray

so when will be Richard's turn?

this is not his first time though. Been given warning and he repeated again. So if your employee did some racist remark on someone else and you given him a warning but he continued doing it. What are you going to do? Keep him in your company or sack him?

obviously he wasnt sacked just because that solitary incident, he was sacked because he is and always has been a sexist and was caught on video or taped a few times already(leaving out him being an awful pundit, arrogant and biased, all which you can regard as irrelevant)..plus that is just 1 of a few videos of him making sexist remarks...and in that video, he was discriminating against her, not offensive? and how is that a joke?

dont be fooled by his commentary, he's not really that good of a person

aha...it's normal la if just hear his commentary, coz his voice quite suits that role...then again u can easily hear his biasness in his commentary, sometimes geram I dengar..well he's not the only disliked one that sky has(had), likely that jamie redknapp will succeed him, which in many eyes also a tool..

at least good old martin tyler still there notworthy.gif

not just about sexism, but there was once also he dissed Walcott with Keys while on air (off mic or some sort), calling him shite. So yeah, im pretty sure he has been warned before. No doubt a big blow to the commentary part of English football, but every action has consequences. all these remarks and actions, especially to his co-commentator, just show he lacks respect to his peer.
