Sometimes when I plug in the power. It shows the locked screen but totally can't touch anything. Need to force shut down. I didn't root my tab. So shouldn't have any issues I think.
*
suggest you do a hard reset and see whether issue arise again. use titanium backup or mybackuppro to backup. these 2 software you need to root phone. If you dont want to root, than reinstall all apps allover again.
If issue again, than is definately battery issue , send in ask for replacement battery

If no issue after factory reset, than is your 3rd party apps issue especially those system utilities , battery usage control apps. For such stay away from apps from dubious sources

im try flash back to stock rom using rom from samfirmware.com and now my tab stuck at samsung booting animation....  cry.gif
at the boot it sometimes vibrates few times....
*
why you use samfirmware. I already advise you to use roto. samfirmware are locked bootloader - you don't flash it with a dead rom

but been using for months. only recently this problem randomly occurs.
if its the battery. how come when i plug in, the screen still lights up at the locked screen.
like u said.could it be the apps? task killer whatsoever? any possible apps that will do such thing ?

thanks for ur reply.
*
There are reported many cases of battery failure after few months - just google this subject on the web. Working fine previously does not mean it will not fail. I am only guessing as the symtoms point to such
I never use task killers , never believe in using it
Anyway taskkillers should not affect. There is default a good task manager if you need , why still need to use other taskkiller

What system utilities you have ?

enaleni/Msia maxis/DXJM4 (stock rom) upgrade to XXJMA on EXT4 kernel
*
Glad you got it done. It is not that hair raising experience - just a small spurt of adrenalin only

Since you have successfully done, should upgrade to latest JMI ; JMA is very old rom.
Recommend Overcome 1.2 JMI or Modaco R1 JMI : both equally good and stable . Overcome latest has built in own kernel, conversion to ext 4 and more features

uncle benny....

if i want to falsh overcome 1.2 JMI  it got his own kernel should i flash it kernel 1st and then flash overcome1.2 by CWM mode?
*
From CWM recovery, just flash the full zip. It will auto install kernel and convert to ext 4 ( if is still in RFS ). Very convenient. Anyway better wait , the developer said he is releasing ver 1.2.1 supposedly last nite, maybe today. He has offered 2 options : stock kernel at 1.0 Ghz and another with option to overclock to 1.2 and 1.4. Ver 1.2 is inclusive OC options

I have downloaded and install Papago X5 on my SGT

I have also performed the raname folders operation to 600 x 1024 and I have downloaded spare parts and follows the instruction given to get all the applications opened in fullscreen. Now spare parts appears in fullscreen

But I'm having problem with Papago which appears like this

As you can see the menu and zoom button appears on the inner part of the fullscreen. Does this happens to all SGT users as well?
*
YES ; the present papago X5 version only looks nice and perfect up to 5" ( at least that's what I can see on my 5" Dell Streak ) without even applying any settings.
If you wish to use this, you have to bear with it. Maybe an improved version meant for tablets will come, no one knows when ? My emails to M3Shoppe and Papago remain until today unanswered ; some more I bought the software - talk about good customer service - real disappointing

Right. I just download the update zip and install on top 1.2 while having my roti canai at warong. Just took 10 min to complete include download time. Got a sounding from missus asking me why cannot do such at home and should concentrate on breakfast

how about to convert the rom if i am already on paul's ext4 kernel with CWM. Do I just convert the rom if placed from the SD card?
*
You just download the zip file - put at root of ext sd card. Boot to recovery mode - select the downloaded zip file. This is the standard way of flashing a new rom from CWM recovery
If you flash Overcome 1.2.0 and above - it will also auto convert your kernel to Overcome version. And if your fs is still RFS, it will auto convert to EXT4 fs

QUOTE :
The bluetooth keyboard/case has been a tremendous productivity tool. I’ve managed to type this review in its entirety with the keyboard and it has been a great experience. As I mentioned in the video review, there is a slight learning curve to it but after that, you will be typing as fast as you do on a normal keyboard. The battery life is exceptional! I have been using this keyboard on and off for about 4 days now have yet to plug it in to charge it. This keyboard, coupled with a few other apps, makes typing long emails and controlling the entire tab easy and intuitive. It’s now a pleasure to sit on Google Talk and chat with my friends and have long conversations with them using this keyboard; it feels natural. So if you are in the market for a portable keyboard for your Galaxy Tab and want to save yourself the embarrassment of carrying around a full-sized keyboard in your backpack, then go ahead and pick up one for yourself. I think with the perfect sized bluetooth mouse, you basically get a mini netbook. Prices due vary ($40-$90) so shop around. I recommend using ebay or google shopping to get the best deals. Just search for Galaxy Tab Bluetooth Keyboard Case! If your in a rush to get one, here’s one from Brando.com.

Your phone need to be rooted for this. From the Market, download and install the free app " MarketAccess" . Launch the app. In the main interface, select "Backup Settings" - this will save your local APN settings. Move to the next tab, select "T-Mobile (US)" as foreign telco and a pop-up window " fake this provider now". Select it. Close the app. Launch Market and you will be able to view all the paid and free apps.
Once you have completed your " marketing:, launch MarketAccess and select "Restore Value" so as to enable back your actual network provider OR you can just restart the phone.

Hi

I wanted to root my tab but there's no 'Marketaccess' app available. I searched other forum and noted there's another way to root. This one needed to download 'Z4root' app. No such app as well.

Advise please..
*
Please refer here for link of Z4root : HERE

Maybe I am not clear. ROOT your phone first. To access paid market - you can use MarketAccess or MarketEnabler - both are free apps

Hi,

Please add me as one of the Galaxy Tab user.
I owned GTab since December and just decided to root after reading all the posts here.

Before I do anything stupid, just a few stupid questions.
a) Z4root or SuperOneClick is better  or easier to use ?
b) How do I backup before flashing ROM ?

hmm.gif

I do not have experience in Android system and hope gurus here can guide me.

I think I have problem with the battery because normally it will only last me 1 day and most of the time my son playing games. More than 50% of battery use was due to display with 10% brightness only. Is this normal for all of you ?

Kindly assist.   thumbup.gif
*
For rooting : simplest use z4root. If failed, than only use SuperOneClick

You cannot fully backup rom without rooting. Rooting will not and unlikely brick your phone. Is safe. After root, there are few ways to backup:

1. Backup your data/apps/settings : Titanium Backup or MyBackUpPro
2. Backup fully rom n data : Install a recovery program - advise us what is your rom firmware and will guide you best method

Yes, display usually takes up most of battery usage. So tune down brightness to acceptable level. Usage up to 80% is common

Anyone knows how to revert back to default themes after install with other themes?
*
As far as I know, easiest way is to reflash. There could be a way to do it by pushing back the original files ( ramework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk ) from command prompt at PC ; but you need these original files first.

Before you installed a new theme, do a nandroid backup. In case you do not like the new theme, just restore back from recovery your previous rom

finally i have rooted my tab after using it for more than a month..now learning to flash new ROM XP

Added on March 8, 2011, 10:48 ama noob question before i flash my tab.

ROM and kernel is dif thing? mean after i flash to rotohammer i can flash to overcome or modaco kernel?
*
In layman's terms :

The kernel is the part of the Operating System that interacts directly with the hardware through device drivers that are built into the kernel. It provides following services : manage memory, control access to hardware, maintain file system, handle erroes, perform input-output services ex communication with PC etc

The rom is the other part of the OS where you have all your applications, the features

Rom developers several types : kernel only, rom only and kernel cum rom

Rotohammer develop for rom only. Paul of Modaco has his own kernel and also his own rom which can be used on other kernels. Recently Overcome wef ver 1.2 has built in hos own kernel together with his own rom

If you flash to Rotohammer - it si just a RFS file system rom. You can install Modaco kernel over it - choose the right zip file as he offer either maintain RFS or convert to EXT4 FS; read the thread properly
Overcome since after 1.2 , allows you install his kernel and rom together

My advise - spend some time reading those threads to understand their specifications. It is not difficult to understand

You MUST always keep a copy of your TB on the external microSD card. By default all backups go to the internal SD card. When you flash a NEW rom, your internal SD card is wipe clean/ After install new rom, just copy it back to internal SD card

Oh no.

I charged my tab whole night. It was full when I unplug. Minutes later. It shut down. Try to on back,it stuck in glowing Samsung logo.  Then I force shut down again it took a while for it to go unlock screen.

How?

Does it concern bout rooting the tab cause I didn't do anything.

Thanks
*
This has nothing to do with root.
I remember I have said previously that your battery could be defective. It happens and quite few users reported such issues. I think one of the forumer here has his battery replaced too free since under warranty

Just search for battery issues in the various Galaxy Tab forums and you will see similar reports and all reported they replace the battery

then drag the app you want into the empty location at bottom apps bar
Is your data apn setting done. If not you will not have any dataservices

Another boot animation if you are interested. Same instructions as per my previous post # 895 ; the instructions I find at XDA site is not complete
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...11#post11879611

Attached Image

Rename download file as bootanimation.zip

Use Root Explorer : tap the RW box - browse to system/media
Paste the bootanimation.zip and replace the default file ( you can rename it just in case or keep a backup copy)
Right click the bootanimation.zip
Select permissions in the popup menu and set to
owner: read & write

Download kies from : refer post #2 Question 8

Based on his firmware, if he wants official version he need installed KIES and if there is an upgrade he will be prompted to do so

If he wishes to use unofficial roms, I suggest he visit our forum and read post # 2 and # 3 to know more how to best use his TAB. He can always post his queries here and I am very sure many of us will help out
