no need an essay ... 1st ... complete the training at any PMI recognized training centre or online training which contribute the compulsory 35 hrs PDU ..

2nd ... study study study ..... ( i have put some of the suggested material for self - learning )

3rd ... register yourself and you will have to submit the 3500 hrs project management.. you dont need to submit an essay .. it just your contributing hours on project phase which divided into 5 ... initiate ... planning ... execute .. monitor and control ... and closing ...

- some brief information regarding your roles and project information on the additional comment area

- it is on pdf format .. if you submitted online .. it would takes 2 - 5 working days while normal post (hard copy) would take around 1 - 2 weeks .. you can check at PMI website ...

4th once you've got green light from PMI for taking the exam .. you have 1 year to schedule your exam .. you will be given an exam code where you hv to put when scheduling the exam with prometric ... AFAIK ... we have ony 1 place in msia .. so it is advisable for u to schedule a month earlier ...

5th ..... after 3 hours and 200 questions ....... wait for about 10 - 15 sec .. then ur result will appear on the screen .... if u failed (hope not) ... u have 2 chances left in a year .. or else you have to re-submit again ...

6th .. once u passed .. in order to maintain ur pmp status .. u need maintain at least 60 pdu if im not mistaken within 3 years .. its either submitting a white paper to PMI or taking part on their activities... or the easiest way is to buy some material on the net which will award you the PDU hours needed ....

cheers .. hope this would help you bradah

QUOTE(akisendro @ Nov 9 2011, 03:49 PM)
just completed my PMP during fasting month ... what i would say ... the exam is easy for those who can shape their mind as a real PM ... even those who work as a PM but without applying the right 'attitude' will have some issues on this

my preparation is pure simple :

1. RITA book
- starting with the light reading and towards to the end I am more concentrate on dealing to understand the key point of each Knowledge Process)
- this book is more detail ... and most of the time u will find a lot of negativity on her words ... but just dont put too much attention to it..
- good exercise on each chaps .. try to get at least 70 - 80 % on each process knowledge and you're good to go for the exam

2. Head First PMP
- This one is really recommended for those who just about to start ur exam journey ... simple explanation compared to RITA's .... but some chaps are just too simple and you're still be needed to read RITA to get full understanding of some concept.
- 1 thing I like about this books is the pictorial explanation which not much can be seen on RITA's

3. PMBOK4
- TBH .. .im not reading much and I dont think I ever fully read this book.. just using the glossary for some of the acronyms used on the books above ...

4. PREP TEST
- towards the end of my preparations .. i took a lot of exams  ...... either free or not ... im highly recommending for pmstudy.com test ... i bought all 4 tests for my very last prep-test and ive found the exam question are more similar to what ive found on test.
- this really helps me as i can really identify my weakness .... dont remember too much ...... i just remember the page 44 on PMBOK
- by doing so... i can understand the ITTO being used on each knowledge process and PM framework. ........ n finally .. register urself at pmzilla.com .. there's a lot of Lesson learnt from those who failed or passed the exam .... and plus .. a lot of simplified note for u to download n read......

SUMMARY
i know all these because i didnt go for any actual classes .. all i did is registered myself for pm-prepcast for 100 USD ony .. just for me to get the 35 hrs PDU .... which i used for my pmp eligibility application ..

plus im not a PM .. just having enough hours for the involvement in project..... total of my investment is not less than RM 2000 including exam + internet course + some paid test and most of the test are available for free in the net.....

last but not least .. register urself as PMI member first as you can save around 20 - 30 USD when u want to apply for the exam (one of the benefit is you can access their free virtual library).... and it is not as hard as you think ... dont stress urself for remembering the key point ... please put more on understanding on the whole concept and it will do wonders for you guys ...

good luck to all PMP aspirant .... cheers

how do you fulfill the requirements of 4500 hours of project management experience if you are not a Project Manager? if you are a team member in a project, does that counts towards the hours?

Means if Proj A u handled 500 hours, and Proj B u handled 500 hours .. but both project run concurrently .. your accumulate hours is 500 instead of 1000 ...

you can be an assistant to the PM for example. And no, being a team member doesn't count towards the hours

during my application ... i did put the project which run con-currently ..... so in ur case .. u should get 1000 project hours ... PMI want to see your hours counted on a single project either its independently running or concurrently ... for more informations .. reads the FAQ at PMI site .. smile.gif

Hi,

I jz passed my PMP exam within 2 months preparation.
Sharing some of the preparation tips here :
1. Register yourself as PMI member as soon as possible. You will get discount for the exam!
2. Download the latest PMBOK guide to study.
3. At least read through PMBOK guide 2 times, and also use it to as main reference while doing sample test.
4. If you are running out of time to do reading, play audio material while you are driving. (We always trap in the traffic jam... you will have panty of time to learn in the car!)
5. Do as much sample test question as possible. Give yourself a target of 75% to 80% score in every of your test.
6. Every question that you did wrong in the preparation test, check the correct answer and understand your mistake.
If you find the answer very doubtful, always follow the answer given in PMBOK.
7. Give yourself a real test simulation before the exam! ie. Sit yourself down for 4hours test without interruption.
You will find the first 50 questions is easy to understand, then 50 - 100 questions not too bad... 150 questions, you start to feel hard to concentrate and
struggle through the last 50 questions.
8. Pre-book your exam date with Prometic as soon as you are ready! Preferably morning slot.
9. Be relax and confident on the day of your exam. Be in the test center 30min before your exam.
10. You will need to bring along your identity card/passport and credit card. Suggest NOT to wear shirt and pant with a lot of POCKETS! (because they will
ask you to show empty your pocket every time you entering the exam hall)
11. After entering the exam hall, you will have 15min to write down your notes (ie. formulas) before you start the exam.
12. When you click start exam, the clock with start counting. You can always mark the questions that you are not sure with the answer and come back to review it after you have completed 200 questions.
13. Suggest you simply hit an answer that you are willing to bet with before you mark and move on to next question.
14. Spend about 50sec to 1min on each question, not too rush not too long. Reserve some time to relax yourself or go washroom.
15. You will get your result 5min after you click submit. Wait for another 10min for the admin staff to print out the result slip and hopefully she will say CONGRATULATION to you!

All the best ~

Hi, i am planning to persuit PMP certification. I personally opt for online learning + classroom training.

One of the online training i come across is this: http://www.simplilearn.com/simplilearn/pmp_exam/about-pmp

I think it's quite comprehensive and the price is affordable. Anyway, since my company is sponsored me, i decided to take another classroom training for 4 days.

My question is as i foresee my schedule from June will be very tight, i am planning to seat for the exam by 2nd week of June. Thus, my question is do you think is possible to prepare for this exam in 1.5 month time? How much effort i need to put in and what is the potential challenges and risk i may be facing?

Kindly assist, thanks.

Thanks for the feedback. Anyway, i hope i can schedule my on July/August as well but i afraid it may not be viable as July and August i may need to travel abroad for project go live and conduct trainings.

So looking at my schedule, best time for me is to complete it before mid of June, else i may need to postpone the whole thing to December...really hope to complete it asap, since the momentum is here now...
