Nope, it is not a common thing for all Proton GBs. There are a few possibilities if your reverse gear makes a "grinding" noise while engaging.

1~ Synchro worn out. It is made from Brass material and its a wear and tear parts.
2~ Clutch not properly disengage (check clutch adjustment and the clutch set for worn out symptoms)
3~ Final drive sub is not fully in halt will cause the "grinding" sound when engaging into reverse (depress the clutch fully and wait for and interval of 1/1.5secs b4 engaging into reverse)

Unless you are referring to the "whining" sound while reversing ofcuz la most manual transmissions have dat due to the extra gear. nod.gif

the reverse gear got whining is due to the reverse gear are straight cut rather than slanted cut
but straight cut are noisier and slanted cut are quiter but cost more to produce
so in end forward gear use slanted cut and reverse use straight cut for cost saving
thats why those dtm,wrc,gt car got whining sound icon_rolleyes.gif

today do some diy

change oil,oil filter,air filter
thermostate replacement
rear boot striker change ,
add a starter booster ,
change the gearshift rubber
then saw a nice custom bodykit saga nearby

about engine you can find engine kosong.....no need to buy fully engine.....use back all old engine part
how frequent you use ur proton???if selalu guna...restore biasa2 saja.......no need to fully restore

last week,i went to tyre shop to rotate the tyre...
then the mechanic found that my left rear tyre got 'goyang2'..
he said it the bushing problem or sumthin like that..can anyone clarify me??

pull the adjusting star and turn until can pass the small nipple then ok liaw
that 1 is for clutch wear and tear

bushing is the rubber slotted betwwen the suspension moving parts and our body
if kong liaw cannot maintain accurate allignment consistenlly
like mine lower arm kong and bushing kong
drive straight olso will sway left and right

Ive been searching around about the gear thing, the Mitsu colt and Smart forFour uses a 4G15 also...
Are their gear boxes the same since its about the same engine? Gear ratio not so sure la...

4g9 and 4g6 series can be fitted but got 2 issue
1st is mounting issue
2nd is jpj lo


mitsu colt and smart forfour use 2nd gen 4g15 engine (4g15t got mivec vvt and turbo sommore leh )
but diffrent position the timing belt is on the other end so gb is on the other end
so cannot
