Just to update, my application for the Malaysia platinum charge got declined. My guess is because I don't work in one of the neighboring countries around Malaysia.
Have send an email to ask what is the reason that they decline my application to get more clarity and hopefully help others.

I have opted for the NZ version of platinum charge, and got approved the next day thumbup.gif . Now that is what I called service.

Thanks for helping me guys! Maybe next year I'll try applying for the Malaysian once again when I know the reason for the declined application.

With your NZ Amex, you can apply for your Malaysian card through something called Global Transfer via Amex NZ Customer Service and your acceptance will be based on your NZ card in good standing after 3 months.

I gave up my Amex charge card 15 years ago when I moved overseas. The benefits were lacklustre in Malaysia when compared to their overseas counterparts. Couldn't justify the fee either. Now I'm happy with my Centurion lookalike Cobalt and transparent Simply Cash cards.

Is the charge card under Amex themselves or thru Maybank?

Y’a. I cancelled my card in 2004. Wasn’t worth the benefits they offered for what they wanted in annual fees.

But the Shangri-La offer is good if you know how to use it to get Singapore Airlines’ Krisflyer status at the same time.
