and going to gov school?or private? or tuition? which place to teach will be preferable?
and what's the requirement to be a teacher? if i'm a degree holder will the pay be any different? I sincerely need some advice and suggestions here. icon_question.gif

i assume u've got a degree and is looknig to go into teaching..rite?..

well, the thing is this, even with a degree, u still needa go for teacher's training in one of the maktab...

the pay's good..around Rm2.7 with incentive and allowance..that is for government la..

for private like in private school or tuition, i tink any degree would do. smile.gif

are u comparing with Dip or Master? for gov,u must have Education background, esp since the gov trained their own at UPSI at other teaching colleges.
without it,or without teaching xp, kinda hard to get..

for private, even harder. coz the pay is higher, and the quality/expectation is higher too..since most of them caters to international or elite students.i recall seeing if u want to teach IT,u must have IT background, for Maths, preferable if u have Maths-related degree. but others just mention prefer education-related degree..some even request for Master.

and if i'm not mistaken, for degree,u can teach secondary students. for diploma, only for primary..dunno if that has changed..

u must know la whether u really like to teach or not..the environment at public school differs with private n tuition.
if u really can manage 30-40 students in a class, creative and patient-->wont have problem with schools
like me,i can't handle it.but love teaching. so i go for tuition. (pls dont ask how much i get, u can search around to know the rate tongue.gif )

After think back what you've advised it's true also! and teacher in school they need to join kurrikulum too..
Would you mind to name me few famous tuition centres in PJ or KL area?( I'm from East Malaysia) biggrin.gif
I seldom find tuition centre posting vacancy in the internet.. how you apply for the tuition centre? I did try to apply for the home tutor through online.. like through one agency website you post up all the subject you prefer to teach.. but no feedback! sad.gif

dear TS,

if u want try and error, pls go for tuition. coz KPLI is like University application--it's not open all the time. and if ur Malay is not so good, I doubt you'll pass the interview.. beside, u'll be bonded as a teacher.

for tuition-i'm a personal home tutor. I advertised myself. I use to work with tuition centre, but most cases, i deal direct with parents..and in some cases,i got it thru agents (need to pay commission). they're many tuition centre looking for tutors, and agents looking for tutor during Oct-Feb. but,if u think u want to move to West Malaysia after u secured a job,i think it will be hard la..

u see, tuition is not like other jobs. usually they need immidiately, and there is no black and white confirming u'll get the job. if u want to be a tutor in Klang Valley, best if u shift here and look for jobs smile.gif

this is for very experienced tutor. Kasturi is also an established centre, so usually they'll hire experienced tutor.

roughly here is the rate:
UPSR: rm20-30
PMR: RM30-40
SPM: rm35-60

the rate may be even lower ( i saw ppl advertise for rm10) or higher depending on ur experience/area/subject..
if u r not experience at all,u'll find it harder to get a job thru website.

icic.. the why don't TS go try give private tuition..secure soem students through some agent.. it's quite good pay.. my friend with only a year experience managed to secure pay of rm50 per hour smile.gif

btw, if ts have taken private tuition before, then it would be easier as he would understand the needs and wants of the student.. tuition teacher really depends on the satisfaction of the students in order to spread their name and be able to command a higher premium smile.gif

I'm an IT grad. after worked 3 years in IT, i switched to education. I joined Kumon as an Instructor for both Maths & English.
From there i self-learn a lot.I studied school syllabus as well, eventhough I'm teaching following Kumon methods. How to teach? Basically from school i use to teach my frens or be a mentor for Maths. Then i started taking few students for home tuition. After 2 years, I quit my job and now fulltime tutor.

my advice,if u really want to be in education line, join any Enrichment centre i.e. Kumon, Smart Reader etc... be it part or fulltime.
coz they usually provide training on how to guide/teach students. coz usually tuition centre dont really have time to guide you. from there,u can develop the skills. also to test whether u really love this line and have patience for it smile.gif

I'm currently working as a part timer at kumon. To be frankly, everyday i need to drag myself out of my house to kumon. The environment in kumon is filled with tension.

And i didnt go for any interview. I think when they need people fast, they don't mind taking students.

Its pretty easy to get marking schemes. Most teachers who have marked the papers before have it. For me I have a relative who is teaching BM, she gets her friends to pass me all the marking schemes few months before SPM.

yo! my ex teacher (pencen already) open a class at her house, each sub cost 150 per month per student. each class consist of about 30 - 40 student. she teaches 2 sub - Bahasa Malaysia and History for SPM students (form 4 & form 5). imagine if she got 120 student (about 4 class a week?)
300 x 120 = 36000 with just 4 class week maybe at most 4 hours per day (2 hours history, 2 hours Bahasa). Tell me if this is not enough for you.
Another story, my friend (parent rich people) go to private tutor who teach accounts, physics and chemistry . i dont know how many time per week but it cost about 2000 per student. each class only max of 5 student. imagine that. so being a teacher does pay well.
another story - i heard that these days, if u work as a gov teacher, u cant do tution. i dont know the details. just heard only.
Good luck!

Try going for gov school first. Understand the syllable especially for upsr pmr and spm. The pay as an teacher in gov school may sux but the side income from tuition is so so so good. Some even earn 10-20x their basic salary from school. Parents will beg u to admit their son or daughter and pay a lot of money if you can spot pmr or spm questions

Isn't it the marking scheme will change once in several years?

If you work as a gov teacher you can do tuition if you apply for it. however, you can only teach a limited number of students per class.

Hmmm. Talking about marking schemes, I just saw sasbadi had these past yr papers with the answers inside. Not sure whether its the original marking scheme or the marking scheme by sasbadi. Everything will change including the syllabus so what is your point?

If you work as a gov teacher, you are not legally entitled to do tuition. HOWEVER, since many teachers do it and it would be kind of stupid to do a crackdown on tuitions, not many are actually penalised.

My point is how private tutor can obtain the marking scheme without the connection with government? if the have to rely on friends that mark government exams, how can they get the marking scheme if they don't have such friends? Any suggestion? smile.gif

Are you sure? My tuition teacher told me that she had to apply for some sort of licence to teach as she is from the government. Of course, that's was what is going on a couple of years ago. Perhaps the government did ammend the law again.
