Spent the whole evening having this bloody watch twinkling in my face. It's an Omega, like the moonwatch but without the chrono function. It has a saphire crystal, and i almost forgot how reflective uncoated saphire is.

I am convinced now that acrylic is a better choice then uncoated saphire.

Belongs to the CFO.

Added on September 7, 2011, 11:57 pmoh btw the cfo came in a suit, if anyone wants to know.

he gingerly took it off, held it by the collar then carefully folded it before placing in on the seat beside him. it is a bespoke.

Added on September 8, 2011, 12:01 amthe omega is very twinkly! the hour indices sparkle incessantly.

I just bought this because I find it fascinating. It looks more opulent than any Lange or Patek.

The price is about a quartz Seiko from Seiya.

Added on September 15, 2011, 12:54 amThe engraving on this makes the little bit on Lange's balance cock look like a cruel joke

It actually still works.

Good day everyone. Just received my first mechanical. A simple Stowa Marine Automatik for work and formal occassions.

Not an optical illusion but simple real estate. The guy cannot wear anything larger than 36mm. The lugs are jutting out from beyond his wrist instead of following its curvature.

If 42mm is ideal, what is 45mm?

Added on September 16, 2011, 5:54 pmAnother strange thing I notice about that Stowa is that the hour and minute hands do not have the same thickness near the pivot. This makes it look as if the hands are not really a set, and is visually incongruos. The minute hand is really thin while the hour hands noticeably thicker.

They should be of identical thickness before they take on their own forms towards the tips as this Dornblüth shows

But then this is a small point considering the degree of vulgarity in watches nowadays ... stainless steeel monstrosities on thin wrists ... all watch and no wrist ... where the wearer is like a vehicle for the watch, instead of the watch being a small accessory for the wearer.

I do not like the UHR. A designer with Nomos said that a watch should return your gaze. Which he says is difficult with a minimalistic design. The UHR lacks this expressiveness.

Nobody wears gold anymore. It's out of fashion.

But like jade and linen, it is something humans instinctively like. Was part of humanity forever. Warm in many ways.

The fashion du jour is for huge blocks of stainless steel in about the size of alarm clocks.

What is remarkable about the Nomos Tetra is that it does not look elaborate, a look people associate with gold. The shape makes the gold look contemporary. Relevant. Non-fussy.

Pocket watches preceeded wrsitwatches by something like 200 years. For a short transitory phase, people wore watches with pocket watch movements on their wrist. It was a very, very brief period. A miniaturization of movements took place almost immediately as wristwatches became popular. Wristwatches were around the 30mm-36mm size for most of its (relatively) short history.

But nowadays people wear the Unitas pocket watch movements on their wrists. Willingly. Wristwatches have reached and in some cases exceeded the size of pocketwatches.
