QUOTE(hfi @ Jan 26 2011, 01:37 PM) There are only 2 real passers in the team; Gerrard and Aurelio. The rest are decent but none are as good at striking a dead ball like the ones i mentioned. Aurelio's fitness has been a real question mark and Gerrard's consistency has been quite an issue as of late. My feeling is that Daglish prefers Lucas over Poulsen as the defensive CM but has to play Lucas alongside Poulsen because Spearing and Jonjo are still a bit raw. I think the combination of Lucas, Meireles and Adam in the CM will give us a lot of mobility and their overall passing skills will allow us to once again dominate possession and penetrate even the most defensive stubborn teams. Then, I thought Meireles' passing was quite good as well?

Harsh on the part about Lucas. Yes, I do admit I was one of the few that dislikes Lucas way of tackling. In fact, I even suggested him to learn it from Masch because that's what tackling is all about. But let's face the fact that tackling hard isn't the only way of stealing ball aka dispossessing the opponents. The good thing about Lucas is that he is able to steal the ball without going in hard on the opponent. More importantly, his performance has been consistent enough. He might not be as great as Meireles or Gerrard in terms of tackling or scoring goals but without him in the team, I doubt Meireles and Gerrard can get the freedom of marching forward for goals. He did his part and the fact that we conceded a lot doesn't mean that he didn't do his job. In fact, imho, I think our defensive line had been shaky for long and skrtel was actually the one I would point the finger on if you ask me. Lucas, imo, does his job decently and for his age, I think he can only improve. He has the mentality to handle pressure and criticism which is good for someone young like him. Would love to see him in the squad regardless of whether on bench or starting 11 because I think he made decent squad player.

Well, I'm not an expert in rating hw much a player costs. But it does makes sense that a team captain will never come cheap let alone a team fighting for relegation who values and relies on their captain a lot. However, at the same time, I hope we are not bowing to the pressure and pay them what they want. Ajax and Blackpool obviously playing the hard ball now knowing that we have new owners who have the cash to splash and know the fact that we need reinforcement to strengthen our squad to push up the table. With the transfer dateline drawing near, these teams will be showing us the 'take it or leave it" attitude. Let's hope that we can get the best deal instead of paying a bulk of money blindly simply because we are too desperate.

QUOTE(Yluxion @ Jan 28 2011, 01:31 PM) I'm just a little upset that we're unable to bring in any new players (after so many speculations) to further boost our chances of moving up the table. But I guess Damien Comolli already set half of his sight on next season. Whether KD would get his role permanent or not still remains to be seen. I'm happy if we can get to 5th of the table, anything more is a bonus and certainly would helps bringing promising names to Anfield and makes Comolli job that little bit easier. One thing we're lucky this season though, is the minimal injury of our key players. With our current depth of the squad, I'm unsure if our reserves are able to step up if our key players are injured. Let's pray they stay fit for the remaining of the season. On the match against Fulham, I noticed Steve Clarke doing a lot of writing on the paper before we bring in the subs. I think he has his contribution towards the system we play and tactics that KD employs. Going to pay more attention on him now. Is it coincidence that we minimize injuries and shorten injury period after we recruited the new physio team?

QUOTE(ayanami_tard @ Jan 28 2011, 03:20 PM) In other words, striker that able to blend well into the team. There's no point getting world class striker into the team if he cant blend into the style of playing the team has now... The understanding between Meireles - Torres and Gerrard- Torres makes it vital for Torres to stay. Of course again, it's up to Torres to decide whether he want to stay or not. Bet no one dare to blame him. On another note, I thought N'Gog started brightly early season. Wonder why Roy and even Kenny now, hardly field him... I think he might turn out to be quite decent a player under the right guidance that is.

The way I see it, I think Torres will only be allowed to leave in summer even if he insisted. We are fighting now and everyone knows that Torres is vital for us if we need to climb higher up the table. Thus, I can only see Torres leaves in summer...unless the owners are dumb enuff...then that's different story lar

Days ago, Chelsea bid 51m for 2 players from A.Madrid.One of them is Aguero and the other being a defender if I m not mistaken. I m assuming the defender at most cost 10m. That leaves Aguero costing 41m? Well then again, that's my assumption. What I m trying to highlight that, if Aguero who is unproven in BPL cost that much, why not Torres who has proven records of goalscoring in BPL? Another thing is selling it to rivals would definitely make the price higher, no? Plus, prices are higher during January window because clubs have to find replacement in the middle of the season.... Total up all the reasons stated above, I cant see why Abravomich has the audacity to submit a 28m bid before offering 35m yesterday....

QUOTE(hfi @ Jan 29 2011, 03:22 PM) Its different. Aguero didnt push for the transfer. Torres, on the other hand, has submitted a transfer request which affects our valuation of the player. We can and have denied the transfer request but the question is whether or not we are incline to keep the player ? Can Torres be persuaded to stay and play for us for the remaining games ? He's on high payroll and be stupid of us to bench him. IF the situation is beyond repair then i feel we have little choice but to sell him - at the price that Chelsea are willing to offer. I think you missed out a point that Torres ONLY SUBMITTED that after the chelsea bid was turned down... In other words, my point is, before this, RA undervalues Torres and made sickening bid...

QUOTE(nando @ Jan 29 2011, 05:20 PM) if this fella continue to talk about why Torres wants to leave as in a player at his age will want to compete at the highest level, win some trophies for club before retiring, i can understand and may even reply for sake of healthy football discussion... but when he say things like Torres is wasted at Liverpool...then you know la...what kind of poster this is...no need to bother one la...For his history in this thread, which is so "wonderful", i would never reply his post which is why I quoted liez and not him.

QUOTE(radio_head @ Jan 29 2011, 06:42 PM) No, I'm saying they are star players because they are challenging for titles. LOL. You can rule out CL this season, that's for sure. So, next season you will fight for qualification. Another 2 seasons before you play in the UCL, Torres would be 29 by then. As for the league, not in Torres' lifetime. That was merely your assumption. Back then, Blackburn weren't even favourites. How did they managed to win the league then? Sometimes things happens against the odds.

QUOTE(radio_head @ Jan 29 2011, 06:57 PM) Heh. Right, it's an assumption now, a fact tomorrow. Has been for nearly 20 years. Then remind me of it when it becomes fact.... As for now, nothing changes. The favourite for the title during early season is now sitting at 4th as far as I m concern... That just shows you anything can happen....
