Hi guys. I was over the moon when iPad is officially launched in Malaysia. I was more ecstatic to actually see it being sold by premium resellers without having to buy those overpriced underwater iPads. I was actually looking for a good e-book reader. I first saw Kindle when I was in the States and was thinking of getting one. Luckily, somehow, I feel like I need to Google it and see the review and that's when I read about a blog saying that it will not hit Malaysian shores as it's books are restricted by regions. Then there's Nook also contents restricted by regions. Then I saw a light at the end of the dark ebook tunnel. The iPad. Unfortunately, today only I learned that the books are also region restricted. Fuuuuu. I was ready to take on the 64GB 3G model! So is the iPad still for me? or maybe I can still get those books if I jailbreak the iPad? What do you guys think?

Yes, the questionable method is googling for the books, but is it possible to say purchase the books from having a US iTunes Account and purchase it using that account? I'm pretty sure you could do that, right?

Just download any ebook in PDF and use a PDF app to read. Simple as that.

If you are particular about the epub format, you can always convert PDFs to epubs. iBook will read both epubs and pdfs. The ones you purchased in the iTunes store have drm enabled, but there are a lot of older books in epub format which are free to download and read without copyright restrictions, legally.
I believe that you can download the free Kindle app and purchase ebooks from Amazon.

Hey guys, thanks for the reply and support. The fact that I didn't know that I can Google ebooks is because after Googling, I find it that only through ibookstore that you can get an ebook for iPad. @GrimmReaper, after purchasing my iPad, I hope you dont mind if I drop a PM on you and bother you a bit on how to get the books So is it safe to say that I can get any / most books that I wanted on the iPad? QUOTE(GrimmReaper @ Jan 11 2011, 09:38 AM) You don't have to jailbreak just to read books. You can read epub and pdf books with iBook. You can find *ahem* almost all popular books online, its just the matter of googling. epub books especially are very nicely formatted for ibook. I'm an avid reader, these are some books in my collection I'm reading now, just for proof it can be done ... Yes, of course you can. You need to open a US iTunes account and find a way to fund it (e.g. through iTunes Gift Cards). I would have to say though that the Amazon Kindle reader on the iPad is also very well done, and the book selection that they offer (in terms of price and variety) is much better. You need a US Amazon account though.
