guys, anyone managed to transfer his contacts from Nokia  5800 to sgs?
*
Yes. Previously on 5800XM, I synced all my contacts to my Outlook client on the computer. Then I exported from Outlook into a CSV file, and imported the CSV into my Google Contacts database. Finally, sync SGS phone to my Google account (Contacts, Calendar, Gmail sync).

thought it had to do something with outlook. aight. ill try doing it tomorrow or tonight.

There may be an option to export contacts from the 5800 to some VCF or other format and import that directly into the SGS, but I haven't tried this one. Have been syncing with Outlook since my S60v1, PalmOS5 and WM5-6 days..

Once you sync with Outlook using the Nokia; isn't it possible just to sync all your contacts into your SGS from outlook using Kies?
*
Never installed Kies before, don't like it. I've seen the screenshots of the app, very flashy UI, but seems somewhat bloated (like itunes, that piece of sh1t) and I'm a bit old school in this respect, I kinda miss the simple and light WM activesync and Palm sync tools of the old days..

After a month or so of using 4.0 I finally moved up to 7.6 which was even better due to the community support given to darky. I'm still happy with it. Thats why even when 8.0 came out 3-4 days later I still have not upgraded. I think I'll wait for the real gingerbread.

so for me, it works, and if it works, I dont really want to break it.  brows.gif

It's really up to you if you wanna stay with Darky 7x, but since the fella released non-wipe versions of his recent roms, I've been religiously updating to his latest. I mean it takes about 10-15 minutes to download the rom, 2 minutes to transfer it to the phone and probably at most 5-10 minutes to install it and get the phone booted up into the new rom. No data is lost, settings seem to be intact too, not really much to worry about, IMHO.

8.0 has been really cool. With speedmod K12* kernel added in, it's even better biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

P/S Just did a non-wipe upgrade for my colleague's SGS this morning, from her old 'stock JPO + speedmod k10*' to 'darky 8.0 + speedmod k12k' - didn't even break a sweat and a happy 'customer' makes for a happy me.

i use k10k , is that any newer stable? what is the new firmware for galaxy?
i want to update tru kies, but i dunno how as i install OCLF n SPeedmod kernel liao.. help!!!!!
*
Speedmod K10L is at test3 version now, quite stable so far. Latest firmware as far as I am concerned is Android 2.2.1 XXJPY firmware (Europe).

You probably have to use ODIN to flash back to stock firmware, which will wipe and factory reset everything. Not 100% sure because it's been months since I used OCLF and I have never used Kies before.

I never disable lagfix, either from voodoo from speedmod from super optimised kernel from ya ok or from raspdeep, any kernel I flash, I don't disable lagfix nor tweaks beforehand. But I do wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing new kernel.
*
Same here, but I wipe cache and dalvik after the kernel update - both tasks done via CWM then I reboot the phone. rclxms.gif

ok i have successfully flashed my 2.1 to 2.2 jpo firmware..can i flash straight to darky's 2.2.1 jpy?
*
Yes, and you could have directly updated to darky 8.0 (2.2.1 jpy) from 2.1 too. No need to go to JPO at all.

Hi guys, do u all face this problem?

While using my SGS to reply a post in this forum, after I type a word n press space bar, the screen keeps scrolling to the bottom n I can't see what I type.

How to solve this?

Thanks
*
It does happen to me quite often. In fact, I am so fed up with this that I only now read the latest forum postings on the phone. All replies are typed at the computer hence why I seem quite inactive in the forum.

If only LYN forum would support Tapatalk..

Thank you for responding. Do u know what is the cause?

Is it the browser, ROM, SGS hardware or the website problem?
*
I don't know, actually, that's why I don't post anything nowadays on LYN forum unless I am at the PC or on my iPad.

I have no problem replying using phone, is it because you zoom too much?
*
Could be, I am not as young as I was before and my eyesight is not as good already..

Anyway, it's too much hassle for me..

Hi Kmrdeva,

How is your experience with Speedmod K12N 500Hz on Darky's v8.1?
*
The best battery life I've experienced so far, with the phone. With my usual usage, the phone would be down to 50% by 2-3pm but today, it was 75% at 3pm, and now it's 45% at 8:30pm.

Note : Phone left the charger at 8am.

did you set brightness to auto mode or manual..because K12N changelog is about brightness fix right?
*
I had set brightness to auto since K12M.

It just boot animation, so I'm not too bothered - I only power down/up once in the morning when swapping batteries. Darky 8.1 with Speedmod K12N has been the best in terms of battery life for me, it's almost 5:30pm now and my phone still has 65% of juice left since leaving the charger at 8am. Disabling lagfix must be one of the main contributing factors..

Normally only the 500Hz flavours are available on xda-developers. For 250Hz, you'd have to go to the TiP site which hosts the files in Google Docs, if I am not mistaken.

Guys, I just found and installed an FTP server app on my phone. So much easier to access my internal and external storage now - I use Filezilla client on my computer to ftp download/upload files from/to the phone via wifi. Much more convenient to me than plugging in the phone via USB and mounting as mass storage.

Also using Filezilla to ssh transfer files with my jailbroken iPad. Good thing Filezilla client is available both for Windows and Linux (I am linux-only @ home).

The 'ftpserver' app (from Market) also supports ftp connections via 3G but I haven't tested this. Seems there is also another ftp server alternative - swiftp server, I think.

Perhaps you can consider using Odin instead..
