ori rom? i assume its Eclair 2.1 is it?
try get the latest version.. 2.2.1.. then apply speedmod..

or you may try custom rom.. Darky's ROM V8.0..

you can just straight flash to Darky's Rom..
for me.. Darky's Rom 8.0 more better.. actually there's Darky's 8.1, but i recommend u to flash to v8.0 one..

good battery's life.. smooth.. and nice look..

flash to Darky's first.. then speedmod..
coz Darky's come with voodoo.. but if u feel smooth and satisfied with it already.. no need to apply speedmod

im usually use speedmod if i use stock rom.. like before, i use stock 2.2.1 + speedmod..
now.. using Darky's 8.0.. no speedmod..

i never face any prob with my SGS.. running Darky's 8.0..

i've been with Darky's 8.0 since it 1st day launched.. but just now i've try the GPS without data connection/wifi and using Navigation apps.. seems like it can't lock or find the signal..

my question is..
1) what GPS apps is better?
2) did i need to change "modem"?

i just download the ZSJPE modem..

install it from recovery is it?
go to recovery > choose .zip file.. then finished? right?

you can choose & change it i gues.. with Darky App
