tempting enough???
isnt that hard but u will have to void the warranty...

I'm really tempted when i saw so many ppl had improved gps reception...

not too hard but its not easy as well... especially when ur trying to do it in the dark with only illumination from ur laptop display... LOL

If ur brave enough, go ahead, get rid of the sticker, unscrew, and slowly use ur nails to open up the sides, use a bit of force, and u should be able to get the sides to open, b careful not to break the chrome bezel, just slowly open it, after that u should see the copper contact just near the volume buttons. 1 thing u must make sure (at least thats what i experienced), when u open its best u open from the volume control side, and when u close it back u should close it starting with the volume control side, when i tried to close it during my 1st time, it pushed the volume rocker out and i tot it was spoiled... but its the PCB pushing the rocker out, just adjust it first and then slowly apply pressure to lock it back down...

i still have my sticker but its damaged... hopefully if 1 day i need warranty i can tell them i've got sweaty palms
*
Thank you very much for your personal guide smile.gif I'll try it someday - not now,.very sleepy already.

It is always available at xda developers forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756

I'll be testing SO kernel 4.6.5 one last time before switching back to hardcore's. Apparently I did not turn on all tweaks. no wonder so laggy.

QUOTE(cloudstrife07 @ Jan 25 2011, 05:46 PM)
guys, can convince me why i should buy Samsung Galaxy S instead of iPhone4?

im getting either one this weekend. maxis set probably.
*
Galaxy S.
Hardware:
- Has super-amoled display. It is very bright and vibrant. Makes iphone4 display, although sharper due to higher resolution, looks pale/pucat.
- 4" screen, slightly larger than iphone4
- Gorilla glass: Scratch resistant screen from Corning, which I believe is better than iphone4.
- Has front-facing camera too for video chat

Software:
- It comes with Android 2.2 (Froyo) with touchwiz skin.. Nice, but not as polished as ios
- Android market: In terms of apps, you can find pretty much everything. Number of apps in the appstore/market doesn't matter much
- It has unobtrusive notification system. Unlike iphone that hinders from what you are working due to streams of notifications.
- Unlimited customization: Steve jobs dictates how your phone looks like. If you want to be different, either jailbreak or put on a casing. With galaxy s, you can customize a lot of things: Home launcher, background, icons, etc
- Widgets: No need to open each app like facebook and twitter separately to see updates. In galaxy s, you can see updates straightaway from your homescreen.
- If you are user of google, you'll find galaxy s more appealing as their software is more up-to-date than iphone counterpart. Example:
- Gmail app is excellent
- Google maps: can see 3d buildings of new york/washington dc etc. Google maps in iphone is outdated.

Usage:
If you are more on productivity, like multi-tasking, choose android based smartphone like galaxy s
iOS has the advantage of more 3d games and more polished user interface.

Galaxy S: No need itunes and usb cable to sync with your computers
iphone: needs cable and must use itunes. but itunes give access to a lot of multimedia contents.

Philosophy:
apple: makes everything easy for you by limiting your options and choices
android from google: gives unlimited options for you.

Feel free to clarify smile.gif

take quadrant score with a pinch of salt. I believe it is optimized for snapdragon chip, not ours (hummingbird). I don't care what quadrant says as long as operation is smooth. As a matter of fact, OCLF in eclair gave me 2200+ score but it is not smooth as mine now. - I think around 1300.

Make sure you are ready to root your phone to custom ROM...
Out of the box experiance will definately kills you....
The GPS sucks ... the phone is pure laggy ..... and Stock malaysia firmware is very blant and ugly.....
Im ashame of you guys not pointing out the flaws  brows.gif
*
That is because he wanted us to convince him to buy galaxy s.

As for your points:

GPS: It is greatly improved already. Unlike us early adopters. Moreover, there are various software fix that again further improve it.

lag: Again, RFS has greatly improved. I was one of the early adopters -The lag was unbearable after one week of usage. But the latest update from samsung has a better implementation of RFS.

I can put out one more point. The build quality: galaxy s has a cheap plastic feeling when you hold it in your hand. I didn't mind this at all. I like it because it contributes to the lightness. galaxy s is lighter than iphone4.

custom rom: Is another example of freedom gained from galaxy s. Unlike other android devices, modifying galaxy s is really easy. Samsung seems to be friendly to the modding community.

Both galaxy s and iphone4 are great phones. They have their own strengths and limitations. Try and test both phones first before you make your decision. Be wary of salesman (and salesgirls!) because their main aim to to sell, not to inform. That's why you should make your own research and seek user reviews.

Cheers!

i think you the only one... who exaggerated about GPS right..i don't see anyone rant about this from v1...

about the lag..yes..in eclair in happen naturally but samsung has improvised it's filesystem in froyo and 2.2.1..so it's not quite a big deal unless u install 200++ apps...or open 10 apps simultaneously...hehehe...

it's user preference actually...whether to rant or find solution for the problem...cheers bro... icon_rolleyes.gif
*
I don't see many people complains about gps too.

I'd like to clarify. I don't think having 200+ apps slow down your phone. Android is not windows where they have legacy codes and windows registry. Android is based on linux. Unless an app starts as a service or starts at boots, it can consume a bit of RAM and slightly affect the boot time correspondingly. Meaning you can have a smooth phone with 200++ apps as long as you don't install any offending app.

If you open 10++ apps, yes it'll lag. Phone has limited RAM only biggrin.gif

guess if i buy the Galaxy S, i'll update to the latest version of Froyo first eh before flashing custom ROM?

also, how about the battery life? on stock ROM and custom ROM such as Darky.
*
Seems like you know a bit about custom rom already. that's good biggrin.gif. No matter latest froyo or not, you can still flash darkyy's.

.I remembered on stock rom with no data connection, I can easily get more than 48hrs of usage. Of course a smartphone with no internet connection is useless right? might as well buy a dumbphone biggrin.gif

On custom ROM, I can get on in the morning at 100% and it lasts till night. Depending on your usage. If light usage, surely can get through the next morning. If moderate use like me (lots of browsing, few msgs and calls), can get through till evening or night. If heavy usage, need other forumers' input

nope. you can flash to custom roms regardless the firmware you're using

stock eclair 2.1 or stock froyo 2.2 will always have a better battery life compared to custom roms such as darky's and etc

but with current darky's v9 and the latest speedmod kernel with all tweaks enabled, i'm experiencing 1% battery drain every hour when it's on idle. not bad i'd say
*
Some people say custom rom may use more battery because higher performance=higher battery consumption. But now I can get 1%/hour drain too. That's excellent I'd say. icon_rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(nasrulbond @ Jan 25 2011, 07:03 PM)
from my point of view, iphone 4 have better edge in skype and ym ( iOS already got video calling for both, android dunno when). and also, if you're more into fashion or like to show off your phone, casing iphone 4 banyak di jual di lowyatt plaza. i dunno right now whether the galaxy s already got banyak casing di jual, but last year in october its so hard to find.

you dont need to do a lot of customization for iphone 4 since the UI is already fast, internet Safari is okay, BUT you have to pay a lot to go out from the apple limitations like Jailbreaking. i can say this cause one of my friend tried to jailbreak his phone, but so expensive, about rm250. if you jailbreak your iphone, baru la you can betul2 rasa the function of the iphone, with galaxy s you can do it for FREE.
*
I thought, can video chat with ym already? If not, there's always fring app, and others. Don't know much about video calling.

- without jailbreak, the only customization you can do is buying fancy case for iphone!
- If you jailbreak, you'll get some, but not all of galaxy s functionality

I helped my newbie friend to jailbreak over ym only - and she's a girl (not to belittle her. I was impressed that she can do it on her own). No need rm250, that's really expensive.

I want to add one more point.

IP4 has weaker network signal compare to SGS, the so-called "antennaegate", which I personally compare myself. Therefore I can confirm it.
*
Which batch of iphone4? I thought the antennagate fiasco is limited in us only.

Err what is the point having a phone covered mostly in glass but need casing to hide. Thinking of it, it's like putting a glass in your pocket.  smile.gif

Another note on the hardware, with latest kernel. The SGS can drive almost all headphone with audiophile quality (or almost to it, subject to your headphone).
*
That's right iphone4 may boast about its thinness. Yet, it needs casing/bumper which then increases its thickness. I happily use my galaxy s naked biggrin.gif

Thanks, forgot to add about galaxy s high quality driver thanks to wolfsson! http://www.wolfsonmicro.com/

by the latest kernel, do u mean stock samsung kernel? or those voodoo/speedmod kernel?
*
all latest kernels have included supercurio's modifications: speedmod/voodoo/super-optimized.

QUOTE(lch78 @ Jan 25 2011, 07:31 PM)
SGS can do 3G video call, IP4 facetime can only video call in WIFI. I'm not sure skype can make Ip4 video call in 3G, but I don't think it is supported yet coz I tested my friend Ip4 but cannot make video call in 3G. Yes, SGS can video call in Fring, Tango and Yahoo! Msg.

Antennaegate fiasco is real and it depends on how you hold it. The so call fixed is not fully fix. For eg, I tested in an area where signal is weak, Ip4 got no signal, my SGS register 2 bar, check SGS signal strength is -101dBm (-112dBm means drop calls), Ip4 cannot check. Another area inside madam kwan restaurant, KLCC, Ip4 got 1 bar signal, SGS got full bar. Then I hold Ip4 differently, got 3 bar back. No matter how I hold SGS, still full bar.
*
Thanks for your inputs. Now I got one more point to argue with my iphone4 friends rclxms.gif

Hi Silentser, I have enable all tweak except the last two with no recommended
1. Enable Android logger
2. Read-write /system

And at the SpeedMod Universal Lagfix menu, I see this. Shall I take any actions on those belows?
1. Root / Install Superuser
2. Lagfix options
3. TWEAK options (Done already)
4. BLN option (??)
5. Set default permission

Hope you could give me some guideline
*
1. You should already be rooted. No action needed
2. This is to enable lagfix. Do this if needed.
4. Backlight Notification. If you noticed, galaxy s has no led notification. If you enable this, any incoming notifications will light up the backlight at menu and back button. Alternative: Install Noled from Market.
5. No need to do this.

*
I don't have a spare battery because it can last all day long. Galaxy S has in fact a bigger battery capacity: 1500mAh vs 1420mAh in iphone4. Source: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPhone-4-Teardown/3130/1

Of course software optimizations comes into play too. But we are happily using our phone all day long.

*
I also got random jerkiness even on super-optimized kernel. Probably it is because of samsung's poorly coded touchwiz. I don't really know.

Cheated? Maybe mislead people. The rom isn't gingerbread 2.3.1 also. sweat.gif

QUOTE(lunatique @ Jan 26 2011, 09:49 AM)
then how to kill apps......
*
Use samsung's task manager. Can be opened when you hold home button. Please remember that frequent killing apps is bad for your phone. The android system already have its internal memory management which should take care of phone's RAM. Meaning, the RAM will be automatically free up itself when needed. So don't be scared when the phone is low on memeory. This process, however is more efficient if you install custom kernel.

is it the using oclf to unroot?
*
If you use oclf to root, you can use the same app to unroot. To leave no trace of hitrory of rooting (completely unroot), delete supersuser.apk etc, please refer to my post in this thread. Can use search button.
