hi everyone... question.. my teacher bought me a practice mute (rubber comb-like type) to minimize the sound when i play at night. how should i attach it on my violin? i am supposed to push it all the way in the bridge or just halfway?  blink.gif

also... i need a shoulder rest... which one is good and how much?

really? but i can only practice at night.. don't wanna disturb my housemates..

btw.. is it true, i can use a wooden clothespin as a mute?

and are there cheaper ones aside from the Kun rest?
already stretched out my budget... sorry blush.gif

minimize the sound mean u won't hear the exact sound of the violin
like that u won't know what are the mistakes u made when u r playing the violin and how to control the sound loh.
listening is very important in learning violin.....if possible, better dun use the mute

yeah, i do heard got ppl use two small wooden clips as a mute but i never try it.

thanks ryan and littlemoo for your advice!
maybe i'll use my practice mute until i get the hang of moving from one string to another.. then i'll ditch it so i can focus on the sound. smile.gif

FOM shoulder rest.. i'll keep an eye on that.
Any promosi? How come they don't put musical accessories on discount?
It's Malaysian Megasale, for goodness sake. hehe  tongue.gif

dear, a good starting is always the basic for learning everything.
if u use the muter on the begining of ur learning, you might need double efforts to focus back on the sound after that ^^
Normally i hide myself in my room and close all the windows to practice, but it damn HOT cause my room is small, lol
BTW, how long you practice ur violin a nite? if one hour, then ur housemates should b ok with it, hehe....

and for the shoulder rest,
my teacher did not advice us to use it but i secretly bought one after 8 months i learn my violin tongue.gif (around RM45 at mid valley)
but i only used it for 1 min then i just put it away....haha ~~

hello! newbie here... smile.gif

i've been dreaming to learn violin since childhood, unfortunately my family cannot afford it before...

but then i watched Nodame Cantabile and i feel the urge again! LOL. but am a bit worried since i have ZERO musical background, plus I'm already on my mid 20's...

someone please help me find a teacher? im staying in cyberjaya...
not aiming to be a professional... just be able to play for fun is good, i guess...

I watched this Japan drama too, it really nice!
It's never too late to learn . I start to learn violin at 29!
