If I want to buy a violin, what should I check on the instrument? I don't have anyone knowledgeable to bring them when I want to buy one.
I don't have any basic on violin and I don't know the budget and don't know how to see quality instruments.

QUOTE(juoin @ Aug 22 2011, 08:43 PM) That depends on what budget you have and what quality of violins you wish to procure. =) I don't even know to identify the quality. How to see it?

QUOTE(juoin @ Aug 22 2011, 08:57 PM) Well, Handmade? German? Italian? Chinese? Some things we look for when buying a violin. Basically, Handmade European violins are better. But slowly and surely, Chinese violins are also getting real good. It all depends on the wood and the maker and also whether it is old and SEASONED or not. So what is your budget? Maybe we'll have a better idea then. =) LOL I don't even know what are you talking about. Let's see. 1 thousand and below is suits me.

QUOTE(little ice @ Aug 22 2011, 09:47 PM) as a starter, you need your teacher to choose one for you. i know people don't like teachers buying violins for their student because everybody know teachers will get commissions. however, better than choosing one for yourself and not knowing anything about violin right? for the first instrument, i strongly recommend you to trust your teacher. then along the learning journey, you'll start to realize what's good and what's bad about your current violin especially when you start to try out other violins in the higher price range. until then, you do your own judgement and buy an instrument you like. Your suggest is good. Alright then!
