It was a penalty. Agger clearly tackled Berbatov. Berbatov went down too easily there, but it's still a penalty. If he didn't fell then, it would have been harder for him to make anything out of the situation since Agger delayed him a little by that tackle. The player doesn't need to fall for the ref to blew his whistle.

And it was clearly a red card in Gerrard's case. Two footed lunge. Not the first time he does it and actually in the past he got away with them. Not this time.

Rafael's could have been the same, but his was nowhere near as bad as Gerrard's was. He didn't lunge at Mereiles.

Talking about RedCafe, should check out their Classic Thread section. Got more hilarious stuff especially the Michael Owen brochure and picture caption thread laugh.gif

Btw SAF said that he could bring someone this month. I wonder who it is...

SAF: “I’d like to get one player in during the transfer window if I could,” he said. “I don’t see it happening really. Normally the player you really want you can’t get because clubs have their own criteria and priorities and also most of the players you’d like are involved in European football.

He's a good GK. Not top class, but he's better than most not rated as 'top class'. TBF to him, he's been solid in the last 2 years or so whenever he got the chance. But he still doesn't look like a regular GK for a top side. A bit unfair maybe since he has VDS in front of him so chances are hard to come by, but IMO considering VDS' age, and how many games we play each season, Kuszczak should have gotten more games to ease him in. But most times he plays only in the non important cup games and when VDS gets injured/rested. He still has a good future ahead of him though. He's approaching his best years now. He would be fine playing as GK for us, we we're looking for that extra bit more.

Paul Pogba in Fa Youth Cup last night. We won 3-2 after leading 3-0 at one point.

Manchester United targeting £15m move for Borussia Dortmund starlet Shinji Kagawa
unta

________

not that i don't like Kagawa(because i like him),but i don't think he's the right man to replace Paul Scholes. for me,Nuri Sahin or Sven Bender would be the best option.

to those who didn't watch bundesliga(BPL much),here's the good analogy

Kagawa Shinji=Samir Nasri

Nuri Sahin/Sven Bender=Cesc Fabregas
*
Scholes=Anderson although their styles are not the same.
We could do with someone like Carrick who is good positionally.

Kuszczak is a very patient man. Very good mentality to have. He knows VDS is no.1, but he still has that belief that he's good enough when the time comes to show his worth. Good luck to him.

So the Lindegaard gonna play in the reserves later on huh? Will be interesting that. Gonna be up for that one. Hopefully there's a river somewhere. Tomorrow cuti.. huhu.

Rafael-Rio-Vida-Evra
O'Shea-Smalling-Evans-Fabio

Evans can cover the LB position, Fabio can cover both flanks, and O'Shea can cover any positions.. but we're still kinda short. Not sure letting him go right now is a wise thing considering the troubles we had last season. De Laet is back I guess so he's another one who could play RB(no CB, disaster). Do we have any more promising defenders in reserve/academy/out on loan?

It's amazing how he gets away with fouling people. Yet Rafael was carded twice in no time. huhu. Still can't forgive the ref for those decisions, along with Bayern's CBs tactics of kicking Rooney all game long till he got subbed.

I remembered saying at the time that those stories were bullshit before he left. But then he moved. Seeing how big 'his world' hat gotten, I guess people shouldn't be surprised by it. We don't sell our best players. And Giggs, Scholes and Gary have shown even if they get old, we would still keep them to the end if they are still of any use to us and they want to be here. Beckham still had a lot of life in him as a footballer back then. There's no way we would just give up on him. It must have been going on for a while behind the scenes for it to happen. His contract was running down with only 2 years left before he moved I think. That's why the price Madrid got him was cheap. They knew he wanted out, and possibly with no intention whatsoever to extend that, and that leaves us with a problem and we lost our bargaining position.

If thing could change, I would have ask for Beckham not to have 'mania' attached to him. He would just be another top player at Utd, who is regarded as a future legend and be with us till the end of his footballing life, or close to his end. We got Ronaldo, and they both would rotate the RW spot. Imagine that. But we parted ways. We didn't get Ronaldinho, but we got Ronaldo and Ole who was a fulltime RW at the time got injured midway through that season and never returns to play there anymore which gave plenty of room for CR and Fletcher to develop. It may have taken a few years, but look at where they are now. We suffered a little at first, but we reaped plenty of rewards.

Now Ronaldo have left the building and Nani have grown into a consistent provider for us, and in Valencia we have someone who is consistent in his play. Soon Giggs and Scholes will go and it seems Gary's time is over but we got Rafael taking his place. VDS will call it a day soon too. SAF has his targets this time I'm sure. We don't have to fight it out to sign the top rated GKs this time round with most top sides already having their own top rated GKs. The team is set for years to come, but I wonder if SAF himself have a list of who should be taking over from him. God that won't be an easy one. SAF have done his best to prepare our team to last for years after he goes, and give the next manager a helping hand in the process. Let's hope whoever that is, will just continue the work SAF have done. Unrealistic I guess to hope for that. Just look at Liverpool.

Kuszczak rejects Foxes loan
QUOTE
Sven Goran Eriksson has confirmed Manchester United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak has turned down a loan move to Leicester City.

Foxes boss Eriksson has been looking to bring in a top-quality keeper after Wigan Athletic's Chris Kirkland recently completed a brief loan spell at the Walkers Stadium.

The Championship club made an enquiry for United No.2 Kuszczak, but the Poland international wants to fight for his place at Old Trafford.

"Tomasz doesn't want to come to us," said Eriksson.
Confident

However, Eriksson retains faith in his current keeper Chris Weale and would only bring in a 'top' replacement for his present first choice.

Eriksson added "I am only interested if he is a top, top keeper. The goalkeeper we have, Chris Weale, is doing very well for us so I am rather confident in him.

"We are not going out to buy just a goalkeeper. It must be an absolute top keeper or we will stay with what we have.

"I think the last few games Chris has played he has been brilliant for us."

He's a consistent goal scorer. 20+ goals a season guaranteed. He might not be good enough for a top team, but for side's like Villa/Sunderland etc who are below the top 4-6, he would be a great addition. Why in the world he wants to leave Sunderland who are doing well, only god knows especially to a Villa side that is struggling. He must've had a fight with Bruce. And 20m for him is priceless if it meant he would score enough goals to keep teams stay up in the EPL(in Villa's case), and help them rise above comfortably and float around the midtable-below top 6.

Long term, Sunderland are better off without him. Gyan-Welbeck partnership look better than any Bent-someone ever does. And with Campbell to come back as well, they would be ok. They just need to find someone who would take over from Welbeck once Welbeck returns to us and maybe another backup striker.

Added on January 18, 2011, 10:18 amCampbell will be out for a while yet. They would need another striker. Mame Diouf for 10m please Bruce. Thanks.

QUOTE(headhunter7 @ Jan 20 2011, 03:56 PM)
I don't know what Carrick's real role is, as of late. He sits in deep trying to man mark the star player of the opposition team yet in attack he only gives one or two passes left and right, and that's what we have been playing in these few months. We don't have penetrating passes, it's either a slow one to the flanks or a backpass. Haven't you guys noticed even the fans at the stadium are getting restless, sometimes booing (because of the backpasses, and quite a number of times, leading to a very very threatening attack by the opposition)

Carrick and Fletcher do not compliment each other, and Fletcher does not compliment the playing of Berbatov + Rooney. We need a new outlet of sorts, that could hold the ball and spray it as quickly as possible, being Rooney the pacy strong striker and Berba with the silky touch. You can see in the previous video by Pain_X, Scholes sprays his passes to Nani / Ronaldo who are hugging the touchline, often being faced with a single defending player. When it comes to Carrick + Fletcher, it'll be a slow, too slow, build up that will have the opposition team double up on our wingers.

Both of them doesn't seem to get into positions to be able to strike the ball, and when they are in those positions, they'll pass the ball. Having to create more opportunities to score = more tired the keeper and the defense will be. I do not see our midfield as a strong one, not to what I would expect. We can't rely on Scholes too much, he's retiring soon. I believe a midfield diamond would do us well, with two wingers , one AM + one DM/CM.
*
Carrick has always been that deep midfielder for us. He is the defensive midfielder in our setup. Always have been, always will be. People might not acknowledge him as one because he's not hard or dirty enough, but he's good at what he does.

Fletcher is really in a poor form atm. Thank god Carrick found a bit of form so far this season. The one we're looking for is Ando. SAF probably didn't want to risk it against Spurs considering how they play their game(good movements, Vida talk about how they try to take one of the CBs out of position).

It might be that we're playing poorly because of the passes that isn't there without Scholes or Ando. But even with Scholes around, we don't really look like dominating the away games. What Scholes probably would do is control the ball better, but it won't help us to carve team open. We just look pedestrian movement wise a lot of the time. Not sure what's wrong right now. We need our wings back in form. It will help. Then the CMs will find their range.

Midfield diamond with two wingers is a fantasy. It won't work. It might work if those two wingers are more like AMs who covers centrally and would get back to help out the DM constantly but then they wouldn't really be call wingers. If not the DM would be left to cover everything.

QUOTE(headhunter7 @ Jan 20 2011, 04:43 PM)
I agree wholly. But the thing is why isn't SAF looking for a replacement? We have enough strikers,we have enough wingers. It's having the middle man who can connect the telling pass, is what we need, and also another who'd have the stature..or even a little bit of Roy Keane, that'll be awesome.

I really like Schweinsteiger, was also happy to hear he was linked to us, but died off quite quickly.

Anderson to me..is another Veron, has the skills, but probably somehow won't show it with Man Utd, but that is just my opinion. He seems lost in amidst of our midfield. He can thrust the attack forward but when he is about 10 metres infront of the penalty box, he'll go ballistic for no reason, and loses the ball. ( Though sometimes it comes own to the strikers being so stationary). We keep saying he's a future prospect, but as games goes by he doesn't show much TBH, other than being another midfielder to pass the ball, instead of the creator.
*
The standout form of his No8, which includes a governing display in a 2-2 draw at the Gunners, has convinced Ferguson that he has found the long-term replacement to club legend Scholes, 33. "The idea was that Anderson would replace Scholes and Nani would replace Giggs in the long term," explained the long-serving gaffer. "It is always a worry when you buy young players for a lot of money whether it is the right decision, but we can tell our judgment has been good with these two.
http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/clubfoot...sid=641069.html

That was 3 years back.

Have you seen his previous 10 games or so for us? He is still young for a CM. Look at most CMs, they would only show their worth consistently once they get to the 24-26 mark. Anderson is a year or two away from being there. He looks good so far this season. Long may it continue.

QUOTE(jhchong @ Jan 20 2011, 05:32 PM)
@Wan,

Carrick was good. what i hate is every match, he makes more mistakes than everyone else in the team, and makes them more than he should. If he is passing such as Scholes(long range wise), if not accurate nvm. thing is short pass also sometimes he give away. and as he is playing deep and centre, when he gives away, we are so vulnerable and opponent start to attack us like mad. If you wanna say he is an out and out defensive mid, comparing him to Essien , he already lose that much.

Wings? park not on duty. Nani need more supply from central mid. giggs if play, last week really teruk, hope can get form again soon. so actually Nani is really the wing i have my hope on now. but problem is no one supply to him the ball.
*
More mistakes? Which one are that? Care to list them out?
Last season that was probably the case. But this season he's been good although not as good as his first few years.

Essien might be more robust and have a better engine to go up and down constantly, but as a defensive midfielder, not sure he's that much better. Mikel is playing that role for Chelsea lately right?

Nani haven't exactly done much. That's why he was substituted. Not been in great form.

Added on January 20, 2011, 5:59 pmAs for Anderson not being a creator, I guess you've not seen much. He is very much a creator. In fact he's better at creating direct goal scoring chances that Scholes. He might not control the play constantly as Scholes does, but not many players are. You can probably count on one hand the amount of midfielders who are similar to Scholes, never mind finding someone close to matching the ability that Scholes posses. Fabregas, Xavi.. who else? Modric might get there in due time.

We have to forget Scholes. Just like how we get through after Keane by signing Carrick(and Hargreaves), we will do the same with Scholes by having Ando taking over.

Added on January 20, 2011, 6:00 pmThat's how good he is. Just have to wait for next season for him to turn that kind of performance consistently if he hasn't already this season.
