QUOTE(mousqy @ Jan 18 2011, 04:03 PM) hello bros I did considered the viento before. It's a very good contender for burly HT. According to the online reviews I read, its slightly forgiving and taking out the sting of a solid ht, while being solid and burly enough for AM riding. Can take up to 160mm fork too. Another option is SC Chameleon. Even more solid, abit too solid therefore less forgiving. Also the price is much more expensive. The EBB, good or bad subject to individual I guess.anyone here using banshee viento?? is it recommended?? 1st time upgrade frame here.... currently using BH - Sommet Again, the above is based on reviews, no actual experience on both. |

I'm a FM5 user. Fm5 is rated for xc & am as per their user manual. Not sure bout the cross rides, but from what I heard, it's more towards xc? Also u gotta consider the parts availability, from what I heard from a bike shop, although FM5 is using the aerospokes, it's replaceable with normal spokes. U gotta double checkmwith the sop ur buying to confirm though. Hub noise wise, it's super quiet until u run it in, then it's pretty sweet sounding.
Added on January 19, 2011, 8:49 pmIf budget's enough, as Chamelion said, custom sets are the best. Also must find a good wheel builder too. This post has been edited by kaizer: Jan 19 2011, 08:49 PM |

How does it sits? Added on January 19, 2011, 10:10 pm hmn, how much do i need to concern about spoke changing? easy to get spoiled? those spoke do easily get right since they selling the wheels here. changing normal/other spokes will not look good but might also have reliability issue? i notice the RM5 spoke are slightly different than normal one. they are 2:1 ratio and should be made stronger to offset the lesser spoke count. i dont really care bout the hub sound la. but i guess with that budget range i cant complaint much. so long i dont break any bones from riding it. anyway, how ur experience with it. live up to ur abuse? [/quote] Well, the spokes are doing well, it's just for the 'oh sh!t moments on long rides where the LBS doesn't have those on hand kinda thing. Well, I heard Shimano's wheel set is selling well and quite established but then still hard to find spoke replacement? That's what I heard from friends oni lar... Best is to ask around amongst your friends and LBS. I'm no expert and I'm not hardcore like the otai's here, but for me, it's been holding up very well. Kiara, PCP, FRIM, etc. Another point to note, Crossride is 1900g and the FM5 is 1801g. A saving of 100g rotating mass. |

SGS = Long cage GS = Mid cage SS = Short cage Rite? Also is the price the same for all, as long as it's the same model range rite? Has anobody here used a road RD before on their MTB? |

Just curious... Why must one be as fast as Peaty going down to utilizes a road RD?
Added on January 21, 2011, 3:27 pmBTW, after rereading Xandman's post, I think we got something mixed up oledi. I'm refering to a road RD, not road cassette wo? This post has been edited by kaizer: Jan 21 2011, 03:27 PM |

Newgen, I think it's best for you to consider the type of riding you're planning to do before embarking on your journey of bike shopping. You might not be interested in trail riding at the moment, but you might be at the near future.
For leisure taman riding, any price range bike is good enough. Using slicks or semi slicks will get better mileage for the same effort. If you have a friend who's into MTB riding and has a spare bike, suggest you to take it for a test ride on some mellow trails to get a feel of it. MTB riding is a very loose term. You can have mellow riding (makan angin sight seeing type) to hardcore gravity defying riding (the one when you see, your jaw dropped in awe). May I suggest FRIM's Rover Trail if you manage to get a loaner bike to ride it and try PCP and get their rentals. Note that when you do go PCP, make sure you're going at the BLUE/GREEN trails if your GF is tagging along. It gets pretty interesting when it comes to RED. For BLACK's, do top up on your insurance premium though. Do take ur time to choose the right type of bike for your usage. Getting it wrong can be an expensive journey in the long run. Also do consider getting into the sport by going 2ndhand. You ended up saving the depreciation in value of a new bike. But then, you might also buying other people's problem. Again, having a friend who knows his/her stuffs would come in handy. As for Jamis as a brand... It's pretty good bang for the buck IMHO. |

QUOTE(Cyphereza @ Jan 21 2011, 09:01 PM) Ratios are too heavy for a heavy bike (in this case; a DH bike) if you're using road RD and cassette. But it'll help you speed downhill... Well, just to make things clear again... I'm referring to RD, rear derailleur, not cassette I think there won't be much climbing unless you really have powerful legs. Btw, I've seen people using road RD and cassette on XC bike (mesti kuat nih) p/s: FRIM entrance fee for a person RM5, for a car RM7, IINM. But since we're skewed to the subject of the cassette. Why does using the road cassette makes one goes downhill any faster than another person using a mtb cassette? Both road and mtb cassette are havingnthe highest ratio of 11T? Would a closer ratio gear combo makes one goes faster? If so, why is that? |
