It (2017)
Time, how fleeting are thy.... This Stephen King novel, was publish in 1986. I read it during 1989, because a friend recommended it. I don't remember liking it (due to Stephen King's writing style) and was mildly amused by the 1990 miniseries because John-Boy (Richard Thomas) from The Waltons was in it. Again, I was not overwhelmed with "OMG I luv this so much." Just watched this earlier, and I am tickled pink!! Why? For those who is "used to" my reviews, I do tend to "go on and on" about nonsensical reminiscence. I apologise, if I am reverting to my normal style of writing. The reason why I am tickled pink in, in the book, the story (when the kids were young) took place in the 50s (about the same time as Stand by Me) In this iteration (this movie), the cleverly moved forward the timeline of the kid to the 80s? Again, Why? I have a feeling, they (script writers) sneakily, brought it to the 80s, because alot of people would remember reading IT during the 80s. So they can relate very substantially, because they live it. Smart S.O.B.s..... (pardon my french) All the 80s references, were NOT lost to me, and as I had indicated, it added to my viewing pleasure. Production Designer Claude Paré did a fantastic job (bringing back the 80s). Same goes to Set Decoration, Rosalie Board. And of course Costume designer, Janie Bryant. Script, was great. (I did not appreciate the books going back and forth between the adults and children) Cast, strong (poor Georgie.....) And, I totally agree with the R rating. Kids, please do not watch this until you can handle it. Great Movie and the fact it is horror, heaven.... My Two Sen |

American Assassin (2017)
There are several ironies in this movie. What do I mean? 1) Michael Keaton takes an angry young chap Dylan O'Brien (thirsty for revenge) under his wings????.... Batman and Robin much?? 2) Taylor Kitsch, in 2012 was in Dylan O'Brien shoes. In that he was in 2 major big budget movies, namely Battleshio and John Carter. Both bombed in the box office.... After several year of hiatus from big budget movies, he is back in supporting role.... One can only wonder what goes thru his mind. 3) Dylan O'Brien who is second fiddle in Teen Wolf TV series, seems to be even more popular compared with this other cast members. And After smashing his face while filming Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018), he popularity seem to only increase!!! Okay, back to the movie. For an actioner, it works. Pacing is right Casting is good. Taylor Kitsch seems more relax without having the stake of the movies solely on his shoulders. There are issues » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Again, I will say this, it will not matter what I say here. If you want to watch this, you will watch it. My Two Sen. |

Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)
Long story short, do I like this movie? I give it 5 out of 10... The best thing about the first Kingsman is how non American-centric it is... The same cannot be said about this... And then the last scene.... *Groan* Has Channing Tatum not spoiled enough franchise (G.I. Joe)? My Two Sen |

QUOTE(QuickFire @ Sep 22 2017, 12:59 PM) Just saw Wonder Woman. What's all the fuss about? A pedestrian superhero movie if there ever was one. It plays it so safe, and is basically a less good version of the first Captain America. The other DCEU movies are bad, but most of them have some parts that are at least intriguing. This is almost completely boring from start to end. I wouldn't rate it higher than BvS to be honest. There seems to be a lot of comparison between Wonder Woman and Captain AmericaThe Wonder Woman comic started decades b4 Captain America To reduced the comparison, the script writer of Wonder Woman actually brought Wonder Woman appearance to World War 1 instead of World War 2 (as it happens in the comic book) to make a distinction There are several other distinction although subtle » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « As I had stated, subtle I like Wonder Woman, it kinda balance out the male testosterone heavy comic book adaptation movies... Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Managed two movies today, and this is one of them. I had been looking forward to this and... I am actually disappointed. I am not familiar with director Taika Waititi and have to add most issues I have with the movie is due to his direction. Peeve 01 I understand that Marvel took alot of liberties with theirs original myth of Thor, and this movie is based on Marvel Comics... And If memory serves, I do not remember they deviating SO SEVERELY!! I was expecting terms like the serpent Jörmungandr (which had been reduced to Surtur's [who the heck?] pet), cosmological world tree, Yggdrasil (reduce to a background image) and they even spelt Ragnarok (Ragnarök) wrong!!! Peeve 02 » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Peeve 03 » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Peeve 04 Chris Hemworth seems to think that with his good looks and if he acts goofy (funny?), he could carry the whole movie by himself.... WRONG!!! Peeve 05 What the HECK was director Taika Waititi thinking, channeling James Gunn's Guardians Of The Galaxy.... Peeve 06 Jeff Goldblum'a character... *Sigh* and on and on and on.... Oh, if you want to wait for the mini movie right at the end of movie, there is one and IT IS A BLOODY WASTE OF TIME!!!?! My head hurts and my two sen... Geostorm (2017)
Frankly, I was hoping to catch Blase Runner instead, but the cinema I went to was not showing it anymore.... So this is actually plan B... The master of disaster is back (Dean Devlin), and he has written and directed this little movie, which had at least 3 different release dates... which usually spells trouble... And in this case the power at Warner were right about trying to fix whatever that is wrong with this movie before the release... And unfortunately, whatever corrections they did... did not help it. Apart from the bad writing, I think casting is also a huge issue. Gerard Butler & Jim Sturgess (whom I had never... appreciated, and still don't)? Brothers??? Really? Daniel Wu (who will also be in the new Lara Croft) looks like he wandered incorrectly into this movie (One other note, did anyone notice Edison Chen wandering incorrectly into The Dark Knight (blink and you will miss him), it was after the scandal and they pulled his credit) This shows how important the Chinese market is to the American film company now (I did not notice any Chinese company being involved in the production). Bad writing, BAD SCIENCE. The destruction of Earth.... is getting tired... And the "twist" at the end... not so twist... Maybe it is my mood, did not enjoy this... My Two Sen |

Happy Death Day (2017)
After the debacle, called Wednesday (25th Oct), my faith in movies, were shaken (not stirred)... Two HUGE budget movies, BOMBED (for me). Some time opened up yesterday... And I found myself looking thru the movie ads... There was a dilemma, watch something close by, or goto far far away One Utama for Bladerunner.... decisions... decisions... So, at the end, the laziness in me, got the better of me, and I went to watch... this! And I do not regret it. This movie is produced by Blumhouse. It cost 4.8 million to make. And from an entertainment point of view, ran rings around Geostorm and Thor: Ragnorak.... You do the math... Story, although borrowed heavily from many sources, the writers were able to make it their own. They even blatantly state the movies they are paying homage to!! The twist in the end although again not original, did throw me into a loop for a sec. To quote Sherlock Holmes (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle) QUOTE Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth. It conforms to this, for sure. Casting (no big names) is actually quite good! And when the main baddie is reviled, it is actually surprising to me! I have faith, once again, in the media called movie! The Midnight Man (2016)
This movie is.... rough. Decent trailer, and movie... did not deliver. The main issues ARE 1) Bad pacing 2) Bad Casting (on THAT note, why the heck is Lin Shayee and Robert Englund even in this?.... To pay rent, I suppose) 3) I actually like the house, and would not mind living in it, but the camera work is just so.... uninteresting. 4) Story... suck major... Usually, horror movie's storyline, don't make sense... This one, took THAT to the extreme... I really don't know what else to say exvept for, you have been warned kiddies.... YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. QUOTE(xpole @ Nov 10 2017, 08:46 AM) Man, why did you watch this movie? Well, everyone makes bad choices... once awhileIf you google, you can't even find many information about this movie. Even searching for trailer in the youtube and through google are quite hard. The google result always show another The Midnight Man movie. And it's a 2016 movie. I want to watch this movie actually, but after doing quick googling, I decide not to watch it. I feel pity to people that pay to watch this movie. |

Justice League (2017)
So.... Is this movie perfect? No. Does the producer wish it was perfect, with a budget of $300,000,000, I am sure they wish it was! Is it enjoyable? Yes. Is it better, compared with Suicide Squid and Batman vs Superman? You bet your bottom dollar! Why is it better? I have a sneaky suspicion, it's got something to do with Joss Whedon... Zack Synder had to step out because of a family tragedy (I am not reciting a script here, something really bad happened to his family) Joss Whedon, stepped in to finished the movie (though, in the end credit Zack is still the director). Why is this a better movie? » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « You can actually tell which bits were done by Zack and and which were done by Joss. Do the scenes unify seamlessly... You decide for yourself. In Batman vs Superman, Wonder Woman (the irony) was born. This movie introduces Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash. Were any of these characters fleshed out? For me, definitely Aquaman. In the comic books his origin.... is convoluted at best. The introduction of The Atlantis Chronicles, made it even MORE confusing.... Let's see if James Wan can do something about that. Looks like Warner is going to make A LOT of money with this, and frankly, I myself is relief. Shine DC, shine as you should!! My Two Sen. |

Today, is a sublime day?
Why you may ask? I will tell you why, it is a sublime day. I watched two amazing movies today, namely Coco (2017) To think, I was going to give is a miss at the cinemas. Knowing very little about the Pixar project (and what I know about it going in, sounded too much like The Book of Life (2014)) The Frozen short (20 mins) was a good appetizer. And then the main course was served and any reservation I had, WENT OUT the windows. There is so much.... love put into this movie, and it cannot help but give it back out to the audience. Beautifully done. I really thought that in December/2017, I only have Star Wars to watch at the cinema, and boy, am I glad I was wrong I give this movie, a 10 out of 10. Go watch this please It is worth every sen of the ticket price. My Two Sen This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Dec 6 2017, 11:31 PM |

and the other
Murder on the Orient Express (2017) One cannot talk about this movie, without making some form of reference to it's book writer, Agatha Christie. Some what of an enigma herself (she "disappeared" in 1926 for a period of 10 days, causing a big manhunt for her) and also using the actual kidnapping and murder of Charles Lindbergh's son in 1932 as the MacGuffin for the story Fast forward to now, how does Kenneth Branagh managed the latest movie adaptation of this VERY well know book. The answer, with alot of respect and GREAT eye for details. The production quality of this movie, is OFF THE CHART!! With the budget 55 million USD, what he got on film is SPECTACULAR! The script is great The Cast, oh my goodness, everyone brought their A GAME and Kenneth'e direction... The scene where the murderer is revealed... » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I love this movie to bits. I do hope they make the sequel (in talks) As always, My Two Sen |
