Haha ending was VERY disappointing for me, the whole movie actually. Didn't really pick the pace up. What's your rating?
*
I like it. I understand what you mean but "pick up". If Guillermo had speeded up the movie, alot of the back story would have been taken out and the movie would have been a soulless action movie..

Please understand that this is just my opinion

I rate it 8.5 out of 10

Transformers : Dark Of The Moon (2011)
A couple of months before I went and watched Pacific Rim, I watched Transformers : Dark Of The Moon on DVD. It was in the bargain bin so I thought that I could watch it when I had nothing to do and wanted to kill a couple of hours. So I bought it (I buy all ori DVD if you're wondering).

Big mistake.

The 3rd installment of Michael Bay's money spinning franchise is downright boring! I didn't expect anything from the movie and I was still bored watching it. It feels like everything but the last 45 minutes is just stalling so that Bay could unleash that final action sequence on the audience. Even though the special effects were nicely done, it feels empty.

The story is very thin and might I add that it does not gel well with the two prequels. In Dark Of The Moon, an ancient Transformer spacecraft is found on the dark side of the moon and the discovery was made way back in the 60's. So what the hell happened with Megatron being the first transformer discovered in the first movie?

So fine. I could excuse that but then we see a whole army of Decepticons being risen out from the moon dust for the final battle. WTF??!! If that army was there the whole time why didn't Megatron use them back in the first or second movie??!! Bay is very blatantly throwing whatever his plot needed into the movie and disregarding the continuity of the franchise.

And yes, Megatron is back yet again despite losing about a quarter of his head. I wonder if Megatron will be resurrected again for the fourth movie? Probably will.

Everything feels flat. Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) is reduced to a whiny brat whose job is to whine until the crap hits the fan and triggers the final action sequence. His new girlfriend (Rosie Huntington Whitley) is nothing but eye candy. She has practically no role to play in the plot and the story could go carrying on without much hiccups even if she wasn't there.

Optimus Prime just brood and sulk until it's time for him to bash the heck out of Megatron and Sentinel Prime. Ironhide is killed off for nothing. Bumblebee just bumble around waiting for the last action sequence to start. No character development plots. Just waste time until the last 45 minutes.

Disappointing even when one has no expectations whatsoever.
Rating : 2 stars out of 5 and only because the special effects were nice.

I watched this at the cinema at 11am on a Saturday morning... I fell asleep... laugh.gif

The Lone Ranger

Not sure how this got such terrible reviews. It's a rollicking good time at the movies- a fun, silly western adventure in the vein of the POTC movies. I didn't expect to like Depp in this, but he won me over. Yes it's kinda like Jack Sparrow but it's also different in at least one major way... he doesn't talk much in this. Sure, the pacing is off at times and the tonal shifts are jarring for the first hour, but once it settles down and you are attuned to its quirks, it's just such fun escapism. There are two major action scenes, one in the beginning and one at the end. Both are great. Verbinski brings his action A-game from POTC flawlessly into the midwest, and it's refreshing to see a director who knows how to film his action. The finale action sequence is probably the best action sequence I've seen since Spielberg's Tintin.

Picture looks reliably good looking as are all of Verbinski's films. Would have preferred less saturation of colours and more naturalness but it does look classy. Zimmer's score is also surprisingly decent- at least it's actual music this time.

I quite highly recommend this. Could be shorter but some great fun. 4/5

Angels & Demons (4K Remastered) (2009)

Frankly, The Da Vinci Code was not an earth shattering book for me...

All the hoo haa and much prodding by my sister-in-law I read the book and the point that everyone was making a fuss about, was NOT even original (eg had read in somewhere or watched it somewhere, probably a documentary)

So when Ron Howard and Tom Hanks got together to make the movie, much publicity and protest and again when I watch the movie, it was even more "meh"...

Tom Hanks & Audrey Tautou, can you say MISMATCH!!

Even having Ian McKellen in the movie, did nothing for me...

Angels & Demons on the other hand, had always been a much MUCH better book and in turn a much MUCH better movie!! nod.gif

Watched it during the week end, the 4K Remastered version and the Picture Quality is flawless.

So is the sound.

Good story. Good acting. And suspense to boot.

If you had not watched this movie, or read the book, give it a try why don't ya.

As Good as It Gets (1997)

Another movie I have watched over and OVER again.

This time on BD format...

Frankly, I'm a little underwhelmed by the video transfer.

It is "spotty" at times. Helen Hunt/Jack Nicholson's face is a little overly pink at some scenes. Some other scenes are a little soft...

Having said that, it is still better then the DVD copy I have...

This is a Drama/Comedy.

There are NO, Car/Boat/Train Chase, Planes shooting each others down, Space Ship, Time Travel, Evil Super Computers, Aliens, Robots, Lazer Beams, Cool Weapon/Gadgets, Monsters, people with special powers etc...

All the characters do, are to talk to each other!!

And you know what. This movie is mesmerizing!!!!

A GOOD script people, you have to work on your script!!!!

Don't believe me?

QUOTE
Where do you learn to talk like that?

In Panama city Sailor wanna hump-hump bar?

Or is this getaway day your last shot at his whiskey?

Sell crazy some place else, we are all stocked up here.

Unbelievable dialogue!!

Jack Nicholson taking OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) to the nth degree... BRILLIANT.

I do believe that both Greg Kinnear and Cuba Gooding Jr. are both very good and overlook actors in Hollywood. A shame really...

The interaction between Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt and Jack Nicholson and Greg Kinnear (as the title suggest) do not get better then this!

Give this a try, if you have not already.

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (2013)

Can you say, edgy???

Well DC definitely can!

I'm not going to go into a DC vs Marvel discussing.

DC, when it come to their animation programs have got a track record that they are willing to take BIG risks!!

And boy did they do THAT here!! IN SPADES!!

Superman and Batman have had many stories done on them, even in the past Justice League animated movies, this one has an interesting twist.

This Justice League movie is done from the point of view of The Flash!!

It is refreshing, and it has lots of twist and lots of turn. Very VERY good!!

Do I recommend this?

Heck YES!!!

The Draughtsman's Contract (1982)

This movie has a script that is praise by critics!!

It is suppose to be brilliant, witty and well crafted.

Full of symbolism, intrigues, innuendos and suspense...

I watched in the first time on Australian TV...

It was... way above my pay grade.

Now, it is still... WAY ABOVE MY PAY GRADE!!!! biggrin.gif

It is about a murder and at the end... I think I solve the murder, but am not sure, and also witness... wait I better not give that away...

This is one of the weirdest movie I have every seen.

To prove a point, have you even seen Eyes Wide Shut (1999)??

It is WAY stranger then THAT!!

It is English and it talks about... from what I can gather, the decadence of the upper class!!

Let's leave it as THAT!!

Eat Drink Man Woman (1994)

Now for something completely different.

Li Ang's Eat Drink Man Woman.

Great script. Great acting. Great direction.

Drama and it is mesmerizing!!

I cannot take my eyes of it.

About a 5 stars restaurant chef and his relationship with his daughter.

Li Ang successfully portray the communication or lack there of in a Chinese family.

The way this family is abole to talk to each other is through food!!

Just the way the food is prepared here!!

If you like a well crafted drama, look no farther.

Video transfer is on/off. I suspect the source material was NEVER fantastic. And have to add, it is much better then the DVD.

Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984)

Of all the life action Tarzan movie, I have to say this is my favorite.

Even today it is actually... relevant.

Christopher Lambert is spot on as Tarzan. Not a muscle bound man that grunts. I agree with the director Hugh Hudson. They had alot of trouble casting Tarzan and was actually in a hotel lobby in Paris at wits end... An in walks in Christopher Lambert. A lanky man...

What attracted the director to Christopher Lambert was... his eyes... There are "beast-like" quality to them!!!

They spent 3 month training this lanky lad into what you see on screen!!!

Ian Holm is also here!!

Interestingly, when Disney made an animated feature, there are scenes from this movie that are "transferred" over (shall we say).

What this movie did very successfully for me is, if Tarzan exist, what realistically can happen!!

Good stuff.

Please do not compare this to Tarzan and the Lost City (1998 *Groan*)

There is a CGI version of Tarzan being release this year. I understand they are also trying to revive a live action movie of Tarzan with Alexander Skarsgård (of true Blood fame)...

... All I can say is, let me enjoy this for now...

The Conjuring (2013)

I'm in LOVE!!!!

I'm in love with James Wan!!!! laugh.gif tongue.gif

Okay, maybe I'm hyperbole-ing.... biggrin.gif

I am really enjoying his work!

Well, maybe NOT Saw (2004), not a gore fan, but his Insidious and now The Conjuring, has proven that he understand how to capture his audience in suspense!!

Wow.

Supposedly based on true story.

Some things are obviously artistic licensing.... but the end product, impressive.

I'm also in love with Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel) and Lili Taylor!! Is that too greedy??? tongue.gif I forgive Lili Taylor for The Haunting (1999). She is a really convincing actress!!

Some character have potential but weren't allowed to shine. And have to add at 2 hours, I can understand why.

It is really hard to comprehend why they would keep all the... supernatural artifacts at they home!! I personally would not! That's just because I'm chicken shit!!! laugh.gif

If you are a fan of horror, go for it!!

Godzilla 4K Remaster Edition (1998)

Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin!!

They rock the 90s.

What they did for the 90s in Hollywood, was what Paul Verhoeven did for Hollywood in the 80s!!!

Stargate, Independence Day etc!!

Back to Godzilla.

King Kong (1933) was a big deal. It was at the height of the Depression, and as poor as people was, they paid the nickel at the cinema to watch The Eighth Wonder of the World, if anything to escape their real lives...

And they actually rooted for King Kong when he rampage through New York city, because they feel his is destroying society that had trodden on them...

So when King Kong was on the Empire States building (the tallest building in the world at the time) and was shot down by the bi-plane, the people actually felt for the big ape...

Like King Kong, Godzilla is a monster movie. The irony is that the original King Kong inspired Toho to make Godzilla. And Toho did actually make a Godzilla vs King Kong movie after their owner of the King Kong rights keep failing to make another sequel to King Kong after The Son Of Kong!!

And in 1998, Toho license Godzilla to TriStar Pictures (a subsidiary of Sony) to make a big budget movie.

And the result is... mixed...

The critics were not particularly kind to it. I believe it made $136,023,813 (USA) although it cost TriStar $130,000,000 (USA) to make. Worldwide it made $221,600,000 (USD) and apparently that is still a disappointment to TriStar (if it is NOT a hit in the States... It is NOT A HIT!!!)

And like King Kong, we are suppose to feel for Godzilla and I do!!

Personally I enjoy this movie.

It is camp, but I like it.

It did spawn a Animated Series, and there was suppose to be a sequel but that never materialise...

Now they are planning a remake for 2014...

The Picture and Sound quality on the 4K Remaster is abundantly better then it's original Bluray release.

RoboCop (1987)

Ah Paul Verhoeven...

Why did he decide to stop making movies in Hollywood...

Peter Weller got "the robot" down peg!!

Also very interesting what Kurtwood Smith (he is Clarence J. Boddicker the cop killer in this). Because when even I see him now, I keep imagining him as Red from That 70s Show!!! (My foot up your ass) laugh.gif

From a picture quality point of view, this movie is not pretty.

With Orion's bankruptcy, and then being sold to MGM and now MGM is mainly owned by Sony... I really wonder how well the masters for the film is being kept, let alone digitally remaster/restored (this looks more like a remaster rather then a restore)...

Having gotten that out of the way, the movie itself (story line) is good and still stands the test of time!!

Like all Paul Verhoeven movie's this is very violent!!

So viewers beware.

The Conjuring (2013) - 9.5/10
-> Finally a real scary creepy movie is released,I have been waiting for this kind of horror movie and this is what horror movie should be like. I watched many horror movies and most are talk 1st then scare later,it just so boring but this movie is different, scare 1st then talk later. I highly suggest for those who likes horror movies, you must watch it in cinema to experience the feeling smile.gif

PS: Dig some info about James Wan, James Wan origin is from Malaysia,he is the 1st director and writer for SAW series as he is the person started this movie franchise, you dont know how much I love SAW series, I love the SAW concept is the karma, you did bad things, you deserved to be tortured. Looking forward to his new movie production Fast 7 biggrin.gif love James Wan works from now on XD

Oblivion (2013) - 3/10
-> I would like to thank god that I avoided this movie during showtimes, this movie is boring as expected from trailer. I just watched it after dled this today. The trailer shows all the action/shooting scenes. Thats all,no more additional action/shooting scenes from full movie. This movie is story driven just like Jack Reacher. Talking ATW. There are so many parts are quite slow and production team can shorten the film into 1.5hrs instead of 2hrs and this 1.5hrs wont even worth your time. You can skip this movie as you will not remember anything after watching full movie(except the scene where Tom and the girl who swimming in the see-through pool, maybe lol).

like Mov_freak said, just my 2 cents XD

next review will be Scary MoVie(2013) or Epic(2013).

----------------
my reviews are not good as you as you wrote details for every aspect/different points,I just write like a very simple short final one line conclusion for each movie haha
keep it up ya biggrin.gif

Good job on digging up about James Wan!!

As for Oblivion, I agree that the pacing could have been much better. On another note, did you like Jack Reacher?

Everybody has their own style of writing. So you write in the style you are comfortable with. Keep it up.

Overall, a good movie.

Interesting that you brought that up.

I think it is a conscious decision on the writer's/director's part where the relationship between Tom Cruise and Andrea Riseborough characters (Jack & Victoria), everything is... arranged. Victoria loves Jack alot more then Jack loved Victoria. So there is always a "nervousness" on her part. The hesitations and false starts.... I really praise Andrea Riseborough. She was really able to convey this through her craft. The relationship between Tom Cruise and Olga Kurylenko (jack and Julia) is suppose to be more organic, spontaneous and.... lacking a better term, free. And that is where trouble brews... There is very little chemistry between Tom Cruise and Olga Kurylenko...

Dante's Peak (1997)

When this movie was release, it was a big deal.

The visual feast and sound was spectacular!!

Now, re-visited on Bluray, visually and sonically... it is still GOOD!! thumbup.gif

There are some inconsistencies though...

1) There are Vulcanologist who looks like Peirce Brosnan!! tongue.gif
2) The volcano at Dante Peak has multiple personalities.... There are three types of volcanoes. Composite, Cinder Cone and Shield Volcano. A volcano can either be one or the other and each have different characteristics!! At different point in time, Dante Peak display different types of characteristics relating to different type of volcano!?! Very puzzling. hmm.gif Apart from that, from a scientific point of view, when ever something happens to the volcano (apart from the multi personality), it is actually accurate.

But if you can get pass the above, it is an enjoyable disaster movie!! laugh.gif

Scary MoVie(2013) - 7/10
-> I have been waiting for this new series very long time and finally watched yesterday. Same like previous movies, stupid ideas/scenes and funny conversation all around the movies. I bursting my laugh off quite few times, damn funny and stupid. They are using "Mama" as their main story line. One thing I dont like is the movie is so short, only last 1.5hrs including all credits-roll(15mins for credit roll only). Be sure to watch the NG scenes during credits biggrin.gif

Personally, I feel they have push these series of movies to the point of tediousness...

Yes a chuckle or two here and there and that is about it.

Simon Rex might not have been the best person as the lead...

I think your parody list is quite complete.

Independence Day (1996)

This movie made careers!

Roland Emmerich a sort after director.

Dean Devlin & Roland Emmerich a sort after script writing team.

And Will Smith a sort after leading man!!

After the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, lost his fortunes...

Apparently, he squandered it ALL!!

Then this movie came along, and he showed the world that he has leading man quality!!

This movie was one of the first big budget movie which uses alot of CGI for special effects!!

Most of the F16 on screens were computer generated!!

There is a novel of this just before the movie was launch. I was in the period where I had to get my grubby little hands on everything about a movie before it was launch. I actually like the novel compared to the movie.

Some portions of the novel works alot better!!

If you like Scifi and Alien invasion and had not watched this (don't laugh, many a people on here is born after 1996) give this a try

Oh, some people like this, the transfer to BD for this movie is decent.
