There are quite a number of uni in singapore. NUS and NTU are the more popular ones among malaysians i think. Do check over the net if you need details about the universities, i'm positive that u can find alot of infos over their uni webpage.

How to get in? study hard, get excellent results, pass the interviews (for medical course). Perhaps you can try ASEAN scholarship?

You're only in form5 now. You need to have Pre U qualifications to enter NUS. So, one of the prerequisites is to have good results in your Pre U.

A levels would most probably be ur best bet into Singapore uni, NUS/NTU/SMU/SUTD

google for more info about these respective uni

take subjects that are content based (e.g. sciences, math). they are preferred in comparison to business studies

I would cast my vote to STPM over A-Level. See how many 4.0-er get entry into NUS/NTU while you see 3As in A-Level get rejected.
Nevertheless, it's harder to get 4.0 in STPM than 3As in A-Level, especially when you count in the self efforts under the secondary school environment versus the paid learning in private colleges for A-Level.

Really? That's the best reply you can come up with?

STPM students are known to get places in NUS easier. My friend A levels had 4.00, did not get a place in NUS. I got 3.75 in STPM and got offered first choice. In fact all my F6 class mates who applied NUS got a place (results not bad la of coz, those who applied were >3.75).

NUS good ah. M'sians can get subsidised fees.

Everyone get subsidised fee if they agree to work 3 years in Singapore after graduation.

Like some had mentioned, some people have the misconception A Level are good but STPM are even better/tougher. NUS knew that.

It depends on what programs you are applying for. One is required to take 4 subjects for STPM whereas 3 is sufficient for A-level. It is then not surprising for a kiasu university to prefer profiles who have a more rigourous training.

STPM or A level.
I used STPM to get into the school.

NTU, SMU are other uni that are more famous in Singapore.
After your form 5, you can try their polytechnics.
If your result is good enough, perhaps junior college.

True, what the rest said.

Some intro: I'm in NUS and from what I heard, NUS is easier to get in since it's higher ranking but really depends on your career choice. EG business in NTU is more sought after than business in NUS.

Definitely STPM students get it easier IMO. All my A-levels friends scored all A's but all my STPM friends didn't score 4.0 and managed to get in. Don't forget to buck up on CCA's and grab any chance to represent school etc as there's a column on that in the application.

I would say
1) Try ASEAN scholarship: go into junior college> cos it seems to be a good experience, you get offered PR faster (therefore cheaper fees, unless you're a guy, then getting PR means 2 years army), and you can get B's and still get into NUS.
2) Take STPM: and try to get 3.75 above. My friends were around that I had 3.58 but I got into Arts and Social Science (my 1A friend can get inside that course, but that's the only case I heard).
3) Take A-Level: But I heard there's a new system involving A-stars? To get into NUS, get 4 A's is safe.

All in all, it really depends on what course you want. Engineering and FASS and even science (arts and social science) are relatively easy to get for Malaysians. Pharmacy, Medicine, Law: you gotta be the super super cream of the crop. To get into Business, you need all A's (be it - or not). Oh and on a side note, I notice most Engine students are offered ASEAN scholarship.

Hope this helps somewhat. either way, just do your best in whatever you decide in and bear in mind, science stream STPM is SUPER hard, arts I found, is more manageable. Don't go into STPM and regret your results. In my school, we had about 11 ppl out of 70 with my CGPA and above

Oh, and do your best for MUET! =)

That's a pretty contradictory statement in the first part. tongue.gif I don't understand, how can a higher ranked university be easier to get in?

And to the second part, NTU is more sought after in SG for business courses, if compared to NUS. Do you mean sought after by students? Or do you mean NTU's biz school has a better reputation among recruiters? And if it's the latter, does the same apply on an international scale?

Oops. I must have commented when I was tired.

I'll clarify what I meant. I'm not 100% sure on the comparisons between the business course, but from what I remembered, NTU business course spans over 3 years and NUS is 4 years.

I think I meant NUS is rather easy to get in (not easier, sorry) and it's also a high ranking university but that depends on the course that you wat to enroll in (ref to my 4th paragraph). Although in Singapore, it's not as great as it seems back in Malaysia. When you come out from NUS, it doesn't give you any additional benefit in getting a job, and in some cases diploma holders (from polytechnic universities) are more sought after as they are given lower wages.

My question is more towards the prestige, and in particular an MBA programme.

For example, if you studied at LSE, you would get a priority to an interview as compared to you being in Monash.

In these terms, which would stand out? NTU or NUS?

I'm not too sure about MBA. At the end of the day, can safely say that NUS is higher ranking and there's a lot of graduate students in NUS. I would try to apply outside NUS though. sweat.gif

Hmm about difference in NUS and NTU, in Singapore I feel it's not as hyped about as Malaysia but of course in Malaysia: NUS is more prestigious. NTU is more known for engineering. But perception differs over time and among different societies. Maybe someone else can answer your question?

Ei this thread still alive?

IMO UEC is far more harder then STPM then follow by A level...I have seen many of my friend come from malay school thinking that they are very good "So do I" LOL, but then when i heard from another guy which study in chung hwa i knew, what i learn in spm till my first degree now is nothing biggrin.gif

Chung Hwa system i think is the best in msial compare to smk school which i knew, they learn Archimedes and Trigonometry identity in Form 2 I did it in form 4. Like wise i seen in Recom forum, they do highlighted the fact that msial sc and maths is years away from sg or china standard, it is true.

From my own experience, study chinese IS INDEED IMPORTANT, if ada RM masuk chung hwa lol..

Back to the topic, if i want to do second degree in NUS, Bphar what will be their requirement?

Thanks for the reply biggrin.gif

According to NUS, UEC students need to take their entrance exams for certain courses (I think Dentistry, Medicine, Double Deg Law and Economics, Law and some others)... which A Level, IB, STPM or most others do not need... GG for UEC being "harder".

My bro, who is currently in Singapore Polytechnic says that students who took A levels in Malaysia might have to take SAT if they want to enter NUS. He's going to NUS after polytechnic, so they don't require SAT. Instead they just expect a 4.0 cgpa from you.

You can go to polytechnic right after spm, but it depends on what type of course you are pursuing. My bro is studying aeronautical engineering, earning his diploma and will be entering NUS after 2 1/2 years. He entered SP right after SPM. His friend is doing the same and he is studying banking and finance

NUS's website has some info. Some of its entry requirements - on paper (or on the internet), at least - do not look very high... for example, a lot of Engineering courses don't even require Physics at A Level (haters please check before rebutting what I wrote, it accepts Chemistry in Physics' place, and allows for O/AO/AS Level Physics as well). However, most people here claim it is very selective, so it probably goes through an arduous selection process. A school of its calibre should just require A Level grades A*/A in both Maths and Physics outright, like a lot of other schools do.

Look up specific subject/grade prerequisites (there's a big table for all the subjects and degrees).

After that it's probably 3 or 4 subjects with As (Bs might be excusable but I wouldn't know).

Since the Institution of Engineers Singapore is in the Washington Accord, Degrees that are accredited by it will be recognized by Institution of Engineers Australia and all other bodies included in the Washington Accord. Whether you can get work there or not is a different story.

When do they normally send out the outcome of application? In the website it states that they release it periodically up to the end of May but I heard some receive the results even early April.

Also, anyone know how the Asean Undergraduate Scholarship works? Do they let you know the outcome of this before or after you have to accept the offer and is an interview required?
