When touchscreen became affordable its popularity skyrocketed – affordable smartphones are all the rage now. The Nokia C5-03 is the result of both these trends and while it borrows a lot from the C6-01 in terms of design, its pricing is a good deal lower.

Designed for a lower price bracket than its Symbian^3 lookalike, the Nokia C5-03 has some of its specs taken down a notch

The Nokia C5-03 is a grandson of the best-selling Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and though it might be the last hurrah for Symbian^1 (or Symbian S60 as old-timers call it) it tries to deliver the same level of satisfaction on the bang for buck meter.

The C5-03 is a very eco-friendly gadget – 80% of the phone body is recyclable, while half of the packaging comes from recycled material (and all of it is recyclable in turn).

It’s a low-price phone with some high-speed connectivity with 10.2Mbps HSDPA and 2Mbps HSUPA. The C5-03 also packs the fastest CPU available on a Nokia S60 device – at 600MHz the old but efficient Symbian just flies.

Full Info & Review: http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_c5_03-review-548.php

-- I have also just bought this C5-03 yesterday @ The Mines Shopping Fair - RM750 Avaxx set. So far it's performance are ok... Just the camera doesn't have AF & Flash... Using old OS S60...

Nokia 5800 only have 434Mhz processor speed, but this phone has 600Mhz. This phone can perform better if it is equipped with more RAM.

The price is cheaper than Nokia 5800 or X6. But i still prefer to go and get either these 2 phone models if i have sufficient money.

4GB + 2GB, but you only have 1 slot right?

Guys, should I get C5-03 or 5530 Xpress Music, or C6-00?

Are there protective covers available for C5-03? I'm scared of damaging it.

If you have more budget. You can try Nokia C6... For C5-03 it comes with screen protector on it... Protective covers I am not sure... I just put it in a pouch when I am not using it.

C6 compare with C5-03:
-C5-03 is lighter than C6,
-C6 int. memory is larger than C5-03,
-Both are 5MP camera, C6 have AF & Flash,
-C5-03 processor are faster than C6.

So C6-00 is prone to lag, and C5-03 has a faster/better processor, weighs less too.

Apart from less important/useful things (camera etc), major differences are the QWERTY for C6-00, and 150g...

Price is about the same?

When i use the opera Mobile in my N97 also having the same problem.

Just hard reset the phone would solve it.

Too expensive or cheap?

Flash? buy the external flash light for photography if you are not willing to spend another additional RM 800-900 for N8.

you are very fortunate to do so to have a dad that won't be uneasy to see kids use better phone and the most importantly, getting funding when buying the phone.

Starting from S60V3, most of the Symbian virus only can infect the system if the users "install" it. You install a lot of application?

Nope... Installed apps. folder have E-mail setup, Opera Mini, Snaptu, Climate mission, RAMblow, IM+ & Kaspersky security only.

Hmm, currently the problem that I am facing is: I can't find the proper video format for my phone... Tried RMVB 640x360, MP4 640x360... All can't work... Haiz... Currently using format factory to convert... Anyone can suggest me the proper video format for this phone? Tq

Tq

Umm, try to use the MP4 format and see.

The earlier S60V1 and S60V2 is quite vulnerable to virus infection. If you open your bluetooth without using it, it can infect you silently.

If can, just avoid changing the original stuff before the warranty is over.

Changing of the casing usually need to strips the entire casing out and I am not sure if the warranty seal will be affected since all the phones i get is without warranty. tongue.gif

Umm, i doubt they provide service to change the original housing to other housing.

If you send to the NCC, it won't void your warranty. However, you have to pay a premium price you know?

Just bought the same phone at lowyat last saturday

Since this is my 1st time using this kind of phone..(Before just used normal Cap Ayam candy bar phone)

Just wanna ask, what is the structure of file(folder) for this phone, how we can organize it, where application is stored as well as its installer, how to remove unwanted application.. is it just by using phone or need to connect to PC to manage everything...

Go into the application manager to remove application.
U can use bluetooth to send file to PC or vice versa.
The application installer file is .sis / .sisx / jar / .Wgz file.
Application is stored in either SYS, SYSTEM, Private and resource folder, on both phone memory and memory card.
Btw, these folder are hidden in the original File Manager that comes with your phone. (Need 3rd party file manager to view this folder.

As far as i am concerned, Trend Micro and Panda are going cloud for Windows based software. This means it is real light weight, but the data usage is real high.

How it cause your phone not to function properly. I installed KMS, netqin and F-secure into Symbian platform before only. Trend Micro I know they have that kind of mobile application, but i never be able to install for the older versions.

3gdgnet tend to be more stable, but Diginet is the access points for the mobile phones.

I am not a Nokia C5-03 user, but here is the rough guide about how to setup a new access point:

Go to Menu---> Settings ---> Connectivity----> Destination ---> Internet

To make things simple:

Delete the Diginet regardless of its priority

Then, go to Options at left corner of the phone,

Select " New access point"

when asked to automatically to check for available access point, click "no"

After that select the "Packet Data",

When asked for the Packet data access point name, just type in "3gdgnet"

After that, you should be able to surf using that access point.

Happy Surfing.

Taking a good picture also depends on the skills of the person as well. The Gsmarena is only meant for a reference only.

Since nokia had added a thing called Hash Check, Custom Firmware cannot be flash into the phone, or else the phone will brick.

Custom usually has been modded too be faster or has some custom Home screen like Omnia Home screen or has custom theme effect.
Firmware change/update can only obtain from NSU or FOTA...Any method other than this will void the warranty.
Once Flash the custom firmware, the warranty will void. Even though u download original firmware and flash also will void the warranty.

By now what ppl can do is by using a modded UDA.

LOL. I wonder why not you just type 10 digits or 11 digits number to call in that case?

I only use skype to skype (both mobile phone) calls, but not for this model.

Skype Symbian is not available for C5-00. sad.gif

Ermm, I have 1 question to ask, according to GSMArena says, it has 128MB of RAM, but how come when I check with RAMblow, I only have 35MB free when idle? What is eating that much of memory (80MB like that)? And when I just surf PC version Facebook using Opera on my phone, it keeps pop-up Memory full...

Is it I "kena" cheated or what?

128MB is total RAM... as you all know, as you use the phone, and do not kill tasks, processes will pile on the RAM and give you less and less RAM to use.

Same goes for the Windows based PC. Firefox uses a lot of RAM when too many tabs are open, but it does not mean that closing firefox would be able to free the RAM up.

When using directly exposed to sunlight, hard to be seen anything displayed on the screen.

BTW, this phone movie playback uses what format? When I put a movie (longer than 1.30 hour), the movie & sound was laggy. But when I copy some MV 5 mins & less, it plays perfectly. May I know why? I uses Format Factory, Quick Media Converter, Nokia Video Converter Factory Pro... All same. sad.gif

Hmm, hard to say so. But my experience with angry birds in the high end Nokia device is quite good. No lag at all compared to Android as sometimes it can be a little bit laggy.

Are you using any mobile anti-virus? I have such problem before when I am using mobile anti-virus, it is updating... BTW, you can hold the cancel phone (red key), but not too long to disconnect Packet Data Connection.

No. The dealer price now is dropping towards RM500 only with 2 digits to spare like that.

Lower your price to sell it better. icon_rolleyes.gif

No wonder. For me, 2nd hand price should be 50% of the retail price, but people over here tend to sell it at 65% like that depending on the person whether he/she is urgent or not in getting rid of the handphone.

The vibration while typing is inside Profile setting.
For the profile,u select Personalise, then choose the Touch Screen Vibration.
You can select Level 1, 2 or 3 or off.

For GPS,i got frustrated with Ovi map, now using Garmin.
Easier and better. icon_rolleyes.gif

I use WMV, format. Converted with FF. It says cannot play lol, just got sound. But now I found a profile. No lag already, but screen quite small. But this is the only choice. Profile: Nokia 480x360.

You are very lucky to get that price with 4GB memory card.
Nice! rclxms.gif

I just compare the Garmin GPS in C5-03 with Garmin GPS in C5.
C5-03 is better and faster in term of getting the satellite signal, lock position and calculate the route . rclxm9.gif

Nokia C5 is running on the S60V3, which can be updated to the version 3.04 like that. blush.gif

I decided to buy this phone instead of C5 last week. One thing for sure the battery is amazing. Very nice for a spare phone. Btw, i'm trying to set sms tone and I can't find it. Also, the who's calling me voice notification is great but how do I turn it off? Thanks.

Can ofcoz.
Try press the song you wish to send around 2-3 seconds.
Then will pop out option, press Send -> Bluetooth, and select the device you wish to send. smile.gif

Make sure you select the Memory card at the Message setting there. Insufficient memory will cause sending to fail.

The processor frequency is scaled on demand. When you require more processing power, your frequency will increase. When you don't, it scales to a lower speed. This way, it saves resources. smile.gif

hi for this phone touch screen is not that sensitive? it seem i have to touch a bit hard to enter or scroll down.

i also change the screen protector. is it the quality of this also will affect the sensivity of the touch screen.

thanks.
*
Because the screen on C5-03 is resistive which requires pressure input. It measures pressure unlike Capacitive touchscreen on iPhone or other devices which requires contact only. Google it out. smile.gif

Is this phone able to do Data ROaming?

I want to get this phone and subscribe to U Mobile's Unlimited Internet. To be able to use it where there is no U Mobile 3G coverage, roaming on Celcom's EDGE, the phone needs to be able to do data roaming.

IS there such setting in this phone?

Normal for this phone model. sweat.gif

If want to avoid it, maybe the C6-01 is better if you only use it for light facebooking purposes.

it is normal to have free connections always being clogged up as there are too many people using it. wink.gif
