contrasty..actually that is what lacks in cameras these days..but one can always apply it on pp..that's the big diff when i shoot with FF and crop..the colors from the crop aint that good sad.gif

good to hear that, maybe i'll try it at a shop someday. compacts are easier to lug around thats wat i love about em laugh.gif

Hahaha. Same here bro. Planning to get a XZ-1 soon. So when I'm lazy just bring out the XZ-1 can already. laugh.gif

Hey guys! Been using my white XZ-1 for a few months now and I love how portable it is compared to my 5D2 and the IQ is pretty darn good too. biggrin.gif

Pardon the quality, it's a direct link from my FB. laugh.gif

Most of the time I shoot in JPEG. RAW only when I'm shooting in low light and want to process the photos at home with LR3. laugh.gif

hey guys...need some advice. am struggling to capture decent shots under dim lighting / night shots.

after much experimenting & reading on aperture/shutter speed, i finally got some decent night shots with these settings:

Av Mode
ISO 100
Exposure +1
No flash

The photo becomes SO DARK when i use the external pop up flash. Any idea why? I expected it to be dark, cause i've been making myself see the histogram.

Tried M mode for night shots (thought having a control over shutter speed would be good), but i've not idea why the exposure (?) is automatically -2, which makes my photos extremely dark.

I've no basics in photography, but would love to learn cause i've seen really sharp photos taken with xz-1. Under dim lighting my photos are blur and just horrible without using full flash.

Try bumping up the ISO to at ISO 400 or higher. And set your F-number to a smaller value, say f/1.8 if you are shooting at 28mm. That would help with your problems.

Also, I recommend reading this article done by our very own admin of this site, goldfries.

Another two articles regarding shutter speed and aperture: HERE and HERE.

hey guys i just recently lost this camera, i bought it last year. My question is, is there any latest update for this camera like the xz-2? I went to olympus site and i only found xz-1. should i buy back this camera or is there any new camera that is better than this with the same price? i think i bought it for 1.5k(with extra batt), what is the price now?
*
I think its about RM1.2-1.3k now. If it's me I would not get the XZ-1 again. I would probably get the Canon S100 or the upcoming Sony RX100. biggrin.gif

i'm curious to know why wouldn't you want another xz1? what is the reason if i may ask?
*
Because I'm not too satisfied with the performance of the sensor at high ISOs. And it's also not very compact. So if I want a compact camera, I'd get the Canon S100 which can fit into my pocket or something that performs better and don't mind the size, I'd get the Sony RX100 or Canon G1X etc.

To me, while the XZ-1 is a good camera, it's neither compact enough nor performs well enough. It's neither here nor there for me.

Plus, the video mode is a joke. It says it does 720p HD movies but I really can't believe that. laugh.gif

Hi, i got a question for xz-1 users ^^. do u use a lens protect with ur camera? and how much u got it for? why are they so expensive?  sweat.gif
The prices i got for the lens protect is rm89-99  sweat.gif
*
I don't find those lens protectors necessary for the XZ-1. As long as you are careful, you'll be fine. biggrin.gif

Thats cos we benchmark it against our dslr's tongue.gif
The G1X also has its quirks like its AF and MFD .. And the RX100 is a sony tongue.gif
For me.. The xz-1 main weakness is the jpeg smear and the joke of a video mode
*
True also, it's unfair cause I use my 5D more often then the XZ-1. laugh.gif

However, I do love the fast lens on the XZ-1. That's the killer feature for me. And like what you said, the JPEG smear and also the RAW noise is much worse when compared to the S100 for example. Of course, the video mode also doh.gif

Hopefully the XZ-2 has a full fledged 1080p mode without the AF problems and also a better sensor. biggrin.gif

Definitely RX100 more powderful... I think its fair (based on Nikon 1) to expect at least 2 stops better performance. Color depth and dynamic range also so be better.

Problem is... XZ1 is selling for NT9500 (taiwan dollar) now and RX100 is expected to sell at NT21000 which is more expensive than Nikon V1, NEX-F3, GX1 kit (or even with the 20mm) let alone all the GF's and PEN's.

In this sense... It's pretty expensive for a compact.
*
Hmm looks like the RX100 will be around the price of the Fuji X10. Both are around the same price range. hmm.gif

Oh yeah, how much did you pay for the LC-63A auto lens cap for the XZ-1? YL is offering me RM120 but have to order. Wondering if it's worth it or not. unsure.gif

Paid NTD900 for it. Definately worth it... autocap and franiec grip is a must di.

Though recently.... Panny GX1 is beckoning me  unsure.gif  unsure.gif

Hmm I see. Though I'm not sure if I want to spend RM120 for the XZ-1 since I don't use it often. hmm.gif

if e-pm1 fit with a pancake lens then it will be pocketable. tried before handling not top notch but with 14-42mm lens it's quite easy to be hold on my big hands.

Since its sensor is way larger I thought it's easier to create bokeh effect & possibly cleaner pics at higher iso.

just wonder if video capacibities should put in consideration as well, I heard xz-1 video not as good as claimed.
*
It'll definitely be cleaner at higher ISO with the EPM-1. The XZ-1 is good up to ISO400 at best. And you're right, the video mode on the XZ-1 is a joke. Don't even bother with it. Nowhere near 720p quality. sweat.gif

Hmm. Thinking of letting go my XZ-1 for something really pocketable, ie the Canon S100. I realized that for me, I'd like my compact camera to actually fit in my pocket comfortably. If it doesn't, it kinda defeats the purpose of having a compact camera. :/

I do love the lens on the XZ-1 though, still can't be beat IMO. f/2.5 @ 112mm is really something. biggrin.gif

You can get it at YL Camera @ Jaya33. But you'll have to order it from them as they don't keep ready stock. It's RM120, Olympus LC-A wink.gif
