Hi Folks,
I’m have my xz-1 almost 2 year and still learning. I’m a big time sucker in low light shooting especially during wedding dinner in restaurant. Till date I’m still exploring to get most out of it. Initially I did not use any flash at all and set to aperture priority to get more light in, but this has scarify the shutter speed and most of my picture went blur.
Then I try shutter speed mode, bump up the ISO to around 350, set +EV, no flash. The picture is under exposed, I need to do some post processing using software to lighten up and noise level is high too.
Then recently I decide to explore on the built in flash, buy a flash diffuser which can hook into the hot shoe, set to sync2.. fill in flash and reduce the flash power..well I can set faster shutter speed to freeze the object, but then again:
1)I still get oily face even I reduce the flash intensity
2)I still see flash light reflection in the retina
3)The object is plausible expose but the back ground suffer under expose.
4)The color saturation is a bit dull, I set WB auto and this could be the reason, if I adjust the WB in oly software to shadow( the cloud icon), the color is better, should I set this setting on camera if I need to snap indoor pic everything?
5)I still need to do some post processing…
Now I’m thinking of getting a bounce flash (Nissin Di466) after browsing some forum and review.
Need help and advise from the expert here please…Am I setting things incorrect here or I’m expecting too much from this camera? I beginning to feel frustrated and hopeless..

I suggest going through the basics of exposure especially about Exposure Triangle... it's the ABC's of photography.
The link below is one of the easiest to comprehend imo

1)I still get oily face even I reduce the flash intensity
2)I still see flash light reflection in the retina
While they work to a certain extent, clip on plastic diffusers are really too small on an already weak pop up flash to get an even soft lighting.
Alternatively you can time your shots or place your subjects in lighted areas.
3)The object is plausible expose but the back ground suffer under expose.
Flash photography is actually 2 exposures (again read up the the link).. the simple terms.. your camera's exposure setting exposes the background and camera flash will put out just enough light to expose for the subject (what you have on your AF box). Flash exposure compensation controls whether you want to over or under expose your subject
Furthermore, it's not feasible for a flash let alone the build-in one to light up the whole room. That's why wedding photogs have big powerful flash with big diffusers.
4)The color saturation is a bit dull, I set WB auto and this could be the reason, if I adjust the WB in oly software to shadow( the cloud icon), the color is better, should I set this setting on camera if I need to snap indoor pic everything?
5)I still need to do some post processing…
Mixed lighting is horrid for everyone. I've not used oly software for ages so can't comment on that. Generally you would wanna stay away from the preset WB icons. I'm too lazy to set WB before shooting but for for post processing, one way is to start with picking the color balance from something like the white of your subject's eyes and then make small adjustments to the balance and temp.
Hope that helps.
