Safiq Rahim deliveries in set pieces during suzuki cup really horrible, but he made it up by display excellence authority covering the mid especially the back 4..

thats why i want RG tu put someone in the reserve to pressure him for place... Badri Radzi is the name most local football fans wants to be given chances..

he pretty much cemented his place in NT for now,,,, along side ashari, got another terengganu player, joseph kalang,,he's good, pure attacking cm but i dont know if he has what it takes to be in NT, but nonetheless, its an option for rajagabal to look at
*
As a people of Terengganu myself, i like JKT a lot.. his long shot is superb.. a bit of flair as well.. and still quite young too.... but his problem is, he is not a pure CM....if he want to break into the NT, he had to go through Badrul Baktiar, Kunalan, Amirul Hadi and co.....thats a crowded road there... IMO, i had no doubt he had what it takes to be in NT.. if he make an a specially good contribution for Terengganu, it will again gives another head-ache to Rajagopal...

Review on Pool of national Team players...

Defender Left:

Azmi Muslim*
Asrarudin Putra Omar
Sabree Mat Abu

Azmi Muslim’s rose to prominence can make a good Hollywood rag to riches story. The former forklift driver‘s talent was found by TV3 reality show, My Team, and grow strength by strength into one of the best attacking left back in the country. Like any good left back, he has springs on his steps and can terrorize the opponent with his speed on the hit-and-run and overlaps. His left foot cross was crucial in our country’s run to the 2009 SEA games Gold medal. Despite his attacking prowess, he still cannot find the right balance with his defensive side. Due to that, Azmi yet to taste pure first team squad status in the NT as RG usually start with the more defensive Sabree Abu and only introduce Azmi as an impact sub later on. But the talent is there, and after a season with Kedah, his game has started to become more mature but a hamstring injury in Malaysia Cup semifinals prevents him from showing it at the AFF Suzuki Cup.

Much hope were put on Asrarudin Putra Omar when he caught the eye of PSV Eindhoven, they offer him a week trial, after a good performance at 2007 Champions Youth Cup. Safe to say, the potential then are yet to be materialized. It annoys a lot of fans when RG use him constantly as the starting left back as he is not even the starting left back for Selangor. But we all knew Rajagopal’s predicament, as after Azmi Muslim’s injury, Asrarudin is the only player with a natural left peg in the team. A right legged left back plus a right legged left winger will equal zero penetration and predictable deliveries from the left. To be fair, Asrar is not all bad. He is quick, works hard and can be decent going forward. You can see he tried very hard to curb his attacking instinct to focus more on his defensive side during the AFF Suzuki from the semi-finals on. But, we can also see that he was not good enough at that. He tried to be patient with his tackles but still can be caught flat by the opponent’s winger on 1-on-1. He also prone to individual mistakes too as he was responsible for 3 of the 5 goals Indonesia scored during the opening match mauling. It speaks a lot about the dearth of left footed talent in the team when he still starts the next match against Thailand. His late tackle against Thailand in the box can alter the history differently for us if a penalty was called. In my opinion, he has the right physique and skill to be a defender. He just need to train diligently on some defensive technique and habits.

Sabree Abu is our own in-house utility man in the team. He can plays anywhere on the back four and primarily used as a defensive midfielder by Kedah. Previously, he was Rajagopal’s favorite left back as he is much more dependable defensively compare to the more attacking Azmi Muslim and Asrarudin Omar. He is sure footed with his tackle and very good at closing down opponents. But his problem at left back is he has no use whatsoever going forward. No cross and no penetration. If he received the ball on the left, chances are, that the ball either be cleared or passed back to GK to be cleared. But still, he is the safest bet to choke the opponent on that left hand side.

Others:

Titus James Palani ??
??
??

MY VERDICT

This is easily our weakest and problematic position in the team. The balance is not right as the players are either too attacking or too defensive. The only left legged players in the team brought liabilities defensively and this has jeopardized Rajagopal’s plan for midfield as well, as Kunalan’s attacking range have to be shackled because he is the only winger who can track back a lot to cover the left backs even though he is much more comfortable, attacking wise, on the right. Sabree Abu can only be considered as a stop gap measure there as there is only so much he can do with his right foot at left back. New talents coming out from the league to challenge the left back position are also not clearly visible. So, unless there are surprise gems in the Harimau Muda squad, Rajagopal has no choice but to continue developing Azmi Muslim and Asrarudin Putra Omar in that position with the former hold a better edge to improve as he is the starting eleven for his state side, Kedah.

Is this the tall #4 who played in the final?
I thought he looked quite good defensively in the SF & final games, although with much assistance from Kunalan.
*
yap... thats the one.. as i said, he tried very hard to focus more on his defensive side from the semi-final on, but the laps of concentration are still there. I think Indon's right side, Ridwan had a field day piling crosses from Asra's side only to be stoped by Khairul Fahmi each time..

it looks like RG will be in charge of SEA Games 2011 squad again. i pity him because he carried too much burden on his shoulder.
plus, OKS is not bad too

http://www.bharian.com.my/bharian/articles...donesia/Article
*
someone forgot that RG has a small matter of World Cup qualifying in June to attend to....

OKS can win back that job if he can bring the team far at the olympic qualifying... pakistan will be nothing.. depends highly on the luck of the draw, we can quickly be put against the likes of Japan, korea and Iran....

just adding some comments on sabree. stable in defence but for him to grow is being able to match his stability with calmness and not hacking the ball anywhere he could. he's still quite young so room to improve. i heard other than asrar, he's the other that's being targeted by critics for his overall performance. coach loves any utility man in the team but too ez for ppl to target once things got wrong.
Would i be wrong if i say he's more jack of all trades but master of none? but he did his job when called on so no complaints from me

btw correct me if i'm wrong, he looked like he's added some weight to his body if comparing to the SEA games and now. and the weight not necessarily at the right places.
*
thanks for the input bro rocko. I agree on all points and even planning to touch about the jack of all trades and the weight issue on the Right Back segment... smile.gif

QUOTE(silvertoes @ Jan 3 2011, 11:11 PM)
think so too, only cheers and chants by the fans can keep them going strong on the field
*
Cheers and chants are all right when the team is winning. But it only take a freak accident in the bathroom to wreck Mahali's or Faizal Abu Bakar's career. No state will offer them a contract before their injuries healed. They have to recover on their own and fight again from the bottom. In the mean time, how do they, as the provider of the family, look into at their child's eye and say we have to think twice about eating at KFC or buying toys until daddy can find a job... who would cheer and chants for them then? will that be enough?

i wont be saying this if our players are all millionaires like in the BPL. But the truth is the financial state of our league is dire. There are not enough money from outside coming in. A lot has been said about how short the span of a sportsmen career is.. job security are very treacherous... so as a professional, they must work hard to be the best of the best so to achieve financial stability and collect retirement pool as much as they can while they are at the top.

Of course not one of them ever come out to say they want any reward. I have no doubt they only did what they did in the spirit of love for their country. if there are no reward, they would have still do no less then what they already did. But if they can bring the priceless joy to us, why not we do the same to them?

The most important reason, the main reason why i type this is, i want to break the stigma that football is a self-torturing-labor-of-love type of career. When we read football players can receive hundred of thousands of ringgit in yearly income if they are good, parent would start sending their young kids to academies for training.. not only parents will be proud to see their children get the adulation on the field, but they are also will feel safe to know that the financial side of their children are also backed. This stigma is the real killer of our football youth development.

And we also have to start questioning the notion a sports player performance will suffer if they receive bumper reward. There a lot of reason why performance drop. Could be the training problem, personal problem, opponents just get better or simply because they overachieved with their performance in the first place..there many casses of athletes become not good with or without bumper rewards... But stingy, fickle and butthurt people mainly choose to focus on the monetary reason because they sick of their mundane 9-5 jobs that barely worth to pay their debt and they get jealous when these SPM-pon-tak-lepas sportsmen receive more money then they do.

Datuk LCW and Nicol David has shown that monetary reward does not necessarily make the player's performance drop. If anything it will spur the athletes to get better as, with good enough income, they can leave their worldly problems at the gates of their training ground and just concentrate on training. Right now, some players even worried that their car will be repossessed at the parking lot when they are training...

i truly thinks the success of the ISL are purely base on the loyal and supportive nature of their fans. every football match were treated as a carnival no matter how good their team are of who the opponent is...

from this strong base, the industry has the capital to give good benefits to the players and hire quality imports.

Theri PSSI is as sucky as FAM, but contrary to Malysia who turn their support to EPL, them Indonesian turn their undying support to their local clubs...

One thing about Malaysians, especially the Malays is that they are stingy, selfish individuals that usually will be jealous when they see someone around them receive more than what they can get. It does not matter if it's the neighbour (bang, jiran dah beli karpet baru. Kita bila lagi?) or even as stated above, a state sportsman. This mentality is one reason that our society is seriously retarded, and heading to the way it is. For one, parents whose goal in life is to get their children to get the best education so that they can have the best paying job in the future, severely killing off aspiring sportsman/women in the roots.
*
they also like to gossip and hope for the downfall of others too... the old cliche Cerekarama story of "poor kampung boy who suddenly lost their footing and become cocky after they got rich and famous with an anak datuk model wife before the get hit-by-a-car/crashed-their-head-to-some-rock/swallowed-by-the-earth as a punishment" never gets old... we wished that to happen in real life all the time..

finding a commentator with local footbal passion and knowledge complete with radio friendly voice and presentation is very tricky..

the Englishman are born with radio friendly voice and presentation, so they just need to pick an ex player who knows what there are talking about and they are good to go. Commentary are among the main reason why EPL broadcast are more delightful than other foreign league programme IMO..

most BM commentators has an annoying voice tone on air... like the old Radio Klasik model... what we need is Radio Era level of radio station revolution to the local football match commentatory...

Rizal Hashim for me has a smoothing radio friendly voice..
