anyone has any idea how to play a 2160p file smoothly?

i have coreavc installed but it is not using the gpu, instead it uses the cpu doh.gif

it maxes out the cpu and the video is lagging, on 4.2ghz i7 920, i can play it with barely noticeable lag if my processor runs at 4.4ghz, but its not stable at that speed

any suggestions?

Attached Image

this is the screenshot of the vid, processor at 4.2ghz

btw, how to get more info of the file to show here?

thanks

try using k-lite codec pack, and enable the hardware acceleration during setup?

make sure the setting to use the internal filter in MPC-HC for mkv file is enable.

this will enable GPU acceleration

or just follow this guide

This 1 you definitely have to use DXVA to play
The GPU will be used for H264 video acceleration

actually i have already setup gpu acceleration, all hd movies are played using my gpu, with coreavc

its only these 2160p vids that wouldnt use the gpu

previously using hd5870 with dxva, bsod when play this vid, happened to all my friends using ati cards

now using gtx580, so i installed coreavc, coreavc is loaded when the video is played, but somehow it didnt use the cuda acceleration, the coreavc icon in the taskbar is still blue instead of green

You probably need a EVGA SR2 and dual overclocked xeon biggrin.gif
Dxva currently only support up to 1080p. if im correct.

The video you are playing are obviously way out-of-spec.

Like 1024kbps, out of spec videos, the DXVA won't work

nope, don nid those, i7 920 overclocked to 4.4ghz is able to play it quite smoothly already, 4.5ghz should be able to play it just fine sweat.gif

so there is no other way other than to get a faster processor?

Change media player wont help, basically all media player will use the same video decoder, unless the video player isnt directshow-based.

Whats the default video renderer you were using?
perhaps change the video renderer to "EVR" since its faster than other advanced 3d renderer, but you will lose softsub support.
2160p quite taxing if running on the EVR custom presenter since its rely on your GPU processing power.
Full bitstream decoding is fastest but i think it has many limitation, while currently no decoder on Windows support Partial acceleration so you are out of luck.

There is a DXVA-HD, prolly support the 2160p or QuadHD, i guess you have to wait the mpc-hc developer to implement it.
IF you are dying want to play the 2160p without overclocking you cpu like a mad, you may try your luck and use *unix OS and change the GPU to nvidia to utilize the hardware acceleration: VDPAUsweat.gif

CoreAVC is the fastest software decoder, but the CoreAVC GPU acceleration only works with nvidia GPU whistling.gif
because it utilize CUDA, while no software utilize ATI Stream doh.gif
If you still have to OC your CPU to 4.5GHz when using CoreAVC, theres prolly no hope for using other software decoder.

most other media players which support gpu decoding, will jz be blank, nothing is played

I wonder why you guys wanna scratch your head just to playback a 2160p file at 120fps plus if you look at the AVC profile settings, its crazy quality for decoding playback. Those are unnecessary stress biggrin.gif
