I think it's the Model number/Build number or something like that. My phone is custom so when I wrote the guide I did not have an actual unit that was similar to be written with.
nice nice, upgrade eh. How much did it cost you? Ever since a month after getting the Wildfire, been wanting to get an upgrade for it because the processor is a letdown even when overclocked. But still a student, so that's gonna remain as a dream for now. 

please do backup as you might need to do hard reset or factory reset although in some cases its not necessary.
if your already on 1.25, so just check update on "about phone>system software update", check update, found any, download and update.

Enable USB Debugging.

backup contact through "people>menu>export to sd/google"
backup sms through apps from market, try search sms backup.
backup other data: like harryfoo mention.

just sofware upgrade doesn't affect your sd card

is said that u better reinstall all of them cus u install base on android 2.1 scare might not work nicely on 2.2 ...

user friendly??? subjective, to me, get use to it very easily.
surf web not problem, although u may need bigger screen if u surf web all the time, but 3.2 is acceptable
play game??? basic game no problem, games like iphone? No way for this phone
GPS? no problem, support papago and Ndrive
hear music?? no problem. but u might need to get another earphone, the stock earphone is okay only.

Why don't you just use your iPhone instead? 

HTC Sense are meant to be used by those people that lazy customize and don't want to explore more on Android.
