three models proposed
1) Panasonic 32C20k
2) Sony 32BX300
3) Sharp Aquos 32L450
I guess these are what will meet the requirements of your dad. Basically, his needs are the same as my requirements . laugh.gif

No point looking at the contrast ratio figure, it is rubbish and has no meaning in the real world watching HDTV. rclxub.gif Just pick the one that looks best to you, the one that you like (or bring your dad along since it it for him.) All HDTV will have HDMI port; USB and SD slot is not so critical as you can get a HD Media Player to take care of these and it will be more versatile that those on the HDTV itself.

Go for LCD. And forget about those built in media player. Get a model without that(to save money) and buy an external media player. External mp are more versatile and can play most formats with regular firmware upgrade. Get a branded media player, no China brand.

32" panel? On 4:3 watching, no bigger than the old 29" CRT television and I can tell you this for certain, picture quality will be lot better than panel watching SD signal.

Normal SD program on wide screen, people looks fat and short. 4:3 prevents that but you will have 2 black bar on either side of the picture so the picture becomes smaller, only as big as a normal 29" CRT. On SD, picture quality on CRT looks much better.

If you want 32", then the only choice is LCD since the smallest Plasma is 40" or 42". If space and budget is not an issue, then go for 42" or the 32" will look small after a while. You can read my HDTV Blog to get a general idea on the difference between Plasma and LCD tv. Most of the entry level HDTV's are more or less the same so let your dad choose the one he likes best. Good luck. smile.gif

Don't know how old is your father but IMO, for older people, Plasma is more gentle on the eye.

Again IMO, I think those Japanese brand may be better than LG.
