Hi everyone, i'm a newbie to the forum, i did a search to try and solve my problem but i cant seem to find a solution!
I have a Samsung 40" LED tv model 6900, and a couple of days ago i got astro byond hooked up! the pictures of the HD channel are really great but i have a problem with the HD channels !

My Byond settings are set for HD that is 16:9 and for SD channels is fit to sreen. On The TV the picture settings are Standard mode, size 16:9, ( i cant scroll down to 'fit sreen' option.)

Main problem is when watching non HD astro channels on the tv is fits the whole screen of the tv but on the HD channels there is a top and bottom black horizontal bar (not very wide!) so i have to click on the astro byond remote to select 'fit to screen' and must keep doing this everytime i switch to another HD channel. I tried to use the 'p size' button on the Samsung remote but the screen fit option is not allowed/ highlighted so can't select that.

How can i solve this problem? its a bit frustrating that the hd channels cant seem to fit a 16:9 tv screen? what am i doing wrong?
Also can the audio output from the tv or byond box be connected to a old style hi fi with only red and white rca input?
thanks

Change the aspect ratio on ur tv to just scan or something like that. If u connect ur audio using rca u won't get the dolby digital 5.1 that is on thehd channels.

A lot of 16:9 movie also has black bar on top n bottom..So, even u select fit to screen also no changes..Nothing wrong with ur TV..

Just select 'picture size' on your Tv remote to make it 'wide' or 'wide zoom' ..But this will make the human looked taller n slimmer than normal also..not nice to watch for me.. better stay in black bar

TS: I think you don't understand quite how HD works. Most movies are in 2:35:1 format. You'll get bars on top/bottom. It is normal. Some channels material also have top/bottom bar due to the different aspect ratio.

If you select 'fit to screen'. Most likely your image will be chopped off at both ends...means you miss the whole picture. Usually most TV drama series are in 16:9, which can fit full 16:9 screen exactly.

This is not a problem...it is how it is.

16:9 = HDTV Transmission standard. It is not the standard of the movies or other source materials. Usually TV dramas are shot in 16:9 format, thus u get exact screen fit nicely. Or maybe National Geography( i dunno, i dun have Astro HD...i only watch downloaded HD materials..). If your movie is in 2:35:1 or 1:80 something, you will get black bars. You still can zoom in to fit exactly using your TV wide zoom or something, but you'll lose details and picture cut off on both sides.

Like while anfieldude says, try to look for an option in your tv picutre to use the native resolution, in LG tv this is called "Just Scan", try not to use "Fit", "Stretch","Zoom" or sometimes "16:9" to try fit the input signal to your TV. The transmission signal sometimes have an "overscan" (black border) area which should be chopped off automatically by by HDTV. The "overscan" black areas are for old CRT TV's.

Hi everyone, thanks again for the advice! I think i have solved the problem!(for now at least) thanks for the info on the source of the input/ video that determines the aspect ratio the tv uses!
The astro byond guy did the connection when i was at work so i did not get a chance to see the set up! I went back to the connections between tv and the byond box! there was a hdmi cable connection between byond box and led tv but as i did not have a dvd he also connected the RCA (red white yellow)cables from the byond box to the led tv and guess what... i have been watching byond via the rca cables input not the hdmi so thats why my pic size was screwed. So i unplugged the rca cables and now using hdmi input it seems to have been sorted!
Thanks
again to all ! thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif
