Hi all, I just bought XPS last week. Was wonderingn if anyone had installed screen protector & skin on it? Perhaps can quote where you did it.

Why need screen protector? even with touch screen so far the review it quite scratch resistant.

Skin can opt for dbrand, >20USD will free delivery
*
Yeah, I know it's scratch resistant but my reason is to make it more readable when outdoors and easier to manage dust and lint. Plus, I don't use the touchscreen (had to get this version as this is the only one with i7 8th Gen when I bought it).

I am planning to get Dbrands, just checking if anyone had any locally done skin. Much easier to get it done now than waiting for the skin to arrive from Dbrands.

Thank you for your suggestions bro! biggrin.gif

so how do i plug-in my wireless mouse receiver for the new xps 13? a dangling type-c to type-a converter?  sad.gif

That’s a bummer. Should’ve stick with the previous port setup or add the USB C connections.

Mine is approaching 3 years. Just changed my battery which was dying. Probably killed by heat cause I play many games in a non air conditioned room in the afternoon. After changing, now feels like brand new. Everything about the laptop still feels great. Hopefully the new battery'll last another 2 years.

Does your version have the coil whining problem?

Not sure what you mean by coil whining problem, but if you mean this soft "eeee" sound when you're charging the laptop, yeah sometimes I hear it when the room is absolutely silent, but I use earphones with my laptop all the time, that's why I rarely hear it. Even without earphones, I can't hear it over the sound of my fan, so .... really no biggie for me.
*
Coil whining is this loud noise that you can hear when the processor cranks up. It was a big problem reported for XPS models (not sure if it was there since the early ones). Mine has it (8th Gen Kaby Lake bought late last year) that's why I'm asking. Contemplating to contact Dell to check & solve the problem.

Finally got the problem diagnosed & Dell repaired my laptop by replacing the heat sink & fan. Will observe further & hopefully it resolves the coil whining sound.

Yes. At least they response is good and with good follow up on the status of parts & their technician. Must use it good before the warranty period ends 😁

Oooh. Congrats. Mine doesn't really have any loud noises I guess.

Even when the fan kicks in? That's good then! Coz mine still has loud fan noise when I do intensive tasks on the laptop. Now, a new problem : display flickering! 😂

Oh dear. You seem to be lucky. Could be that the problem occurred cause you opened the chassis to switch the heatsink and fan earlier?
*
Perhaps so. I read online, seems to be graphic card related issue, nevertheless I've logged a complaint to Dell. See how it goes.

To update : Just had the in warranty replacement for the display unit, but the colour of the replacement unit is wrong dry.gif

The technician still replaced it first so that I can use the laptop for the time being and will schedule for another appointment for the correct one to be installed. Here is how it looks now

XPS is the best bang for buck (though expensive a bit), Dell support is awesome as well. I have changed fan assembly, heat sink assembly & screen so far. All is well. Haha.

guys, is it worth to pay the premium for 4K screen over the FHD for XPS 13?
*
IMO not worth it unless you have specific use for it. I wished I had taken FHD instead of 4K as the FHD eats less on the battery.

Contemplating ... XPS 13 or 15 ...

Thinking to get UHD screen but if it’s 13 then no point ... UHD looks nicer on 15
*
True. But again, if you favour battery over high res screen, go for FHD.

No more DPC issues but other issues remain (according to NBC)

Honestly, Dell really need to redesign the whole thing (7590 is the same chassis with 9570)
*
I think that's why it's necessary to have the Dell service coverage, at least things like this can be repaired without much cost (except for the yearly renewal for the service cover). But one thing though, the battery standby is awesome on XPS.
